DF Suggestions / Serial killers instead of vampires

I don´t know who came up with the idea of vampire dwarfs, but for my it really sucks!
I mean really? VAMPIRE DWARVES? sorry but I think its a dumb concept.

If the idea was to add an intriguing, suspenseful feature maybe it could be better if it was a serial killer dwarf

But maybe there´s a way to deactivate vampires, if that´s the case please tell me how to do it.

On the DF Suggestions I suggested the chance to have an executioner and gallows, with public executions to bring justice to criminals and pow, and also bring peace and relief to the families of the victims. And then LMeire replied me that I´m just seeing thing from human perspective, that dwarves will be happy just when things are over and they can get back to work.
That simple sentence just blew my mind and make me see dwarves in a total different way.

I can almost see them working meticulosly just minding their own even with blood splatter all around them, or having lost a relative or friend a few minutes ago. You know, maybe feeling horrified, or sad but in a different way, still being able to get along
That makes me wonder about general dwarven psychology and how they relate to the world and with each other in comparison to humans.
Do they love, hate, fear, dream or build thoughts the same way as we do? There should be a DF Dwarven Psychology Treaty

It shouldn´t be so hard to get water mist provoked happy thoughts to your dwarves. All it takes is a closed room, some hot stones and water, right?

Based on kills and combat experience dwarves could auto assign ranks within an army, and follow their leader´s initiative in combat. For example if a hero is being attacked all of his companions would instantly run to protect him, etc. Also have morale boost near him, and great social grief if he should die. Famous heroes could get to use artifacts, the best meals, or drinks in a tavern or any other benefit

..and by sex. So when I´m dessignating some animals to be butchered I make sure that I´m always leaving at least a couple to breed

When a given dwarf assumes a new role (e.g. broker, mayor, etc) and you give them a new, bigger room I´ts very tricky to find their old one to deassign it, specially when you have lots of similar rooms. It would be cool if you could see all a dwarf´s rooms and zoom to each one of them.

In the name of charity and good will, PLEASE tell me how to run tiletypes!! It keeps asking for a "interactive console" I´m using PeridexisErrant's Starter Pack 0.42.06-r02 on windows 10

DF General Discussion / What kind of dwarf would you be...

...based on your real life skills, hobbies and personal tastes?

For example, in my case:
SWIMMER (from freediving)
FISHERDWARF (from spearfishing)
COOK (I´m a great cook!)
ENGRAVER (from amateur drawing)

If I could choose I would also be a BREWER and FARMER (no experience at all, but love those activities), and would offer myself to explore new caverns.

Are we maniacs? or sociopaths? or just a bunch of dumb nerds playing smart? I mean, and I truly wonder: what kind of psychological profile does it take to understand, regularly play, and most important ENJOY a game like Dwarf Fortress? Have you ever asked this yourselves? Have you ever made this question to yourselves? maybe while staring at a flashing C green tiles filled screen? Or while setting the armor material of your archers squad´s helms? or while selecting products from a long brown colored text list to trade with an elven caravan, taking special care not to include any wooden product within your wares to avoid any conflict with them, at least for now because you are still not that strong, but already planning the way to entrap those filthy tree-lovers, maybe in a few years? I know most people wouldn´t like or even understand this game, and I think that Toady (is that his nickname?) and his brother or whoever created this universe are maybe the greatest geniuses of our time. But what keeps nagging my front lobe is: do we all Dwarf fortress lovers fall under a similar profile? I know for sure I´m not your typical Pc gamer. Maybe some personality poll in this forum would retrieve very interesting results

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / No plaster powder (solved)

For some reason my dwarf won´t make plaster powder. I´ve got a magma kiln and everything needed. I have lots of gypsum, bags a Hospital zone with chests, cabinets, bags. Just in case I´ve also made some charcoal and a regular kiln. The "make plaster powder" option is white on my kiln, and dwarfs will make anything there, like clay pots, mugs, etc. No message of any missing material or condition shows up. But for some reason they are not making that damn plaster, and for the eye of Armok I swear my fortress could make a good use out of it. I have like 5 of my main miners and some engravers and farmers agonizing with limbs mangled beyond recognition, and bones coming out everywhere.

Got my v0.40.24 running good. Made a meeting area with (i), filled it with tables, chairs, cabinets and chests. Left a nice big space in the middle, wooden floored for my dwarfs to dance. But I cant find the option to make it a tavern. I´ve read in the wiki that I should designate it from the (i) menu where there should be a (l)ocation sub menu, but it doesnt show up. There are lots of mugs, drinks, food, instruments, goblets, idle dwarfs; everything I could ever need to have a tavern, what am I missing? I´ve also tried by making a big dinning room from one of the tables, designating it as a meeting hall, but that didnt work either.

I´ve seen on the web a lot of cool, funny, and/or dramatic stories from different dwarf fortresses. Are they free interpretations of each fortress owner/creator based loosely on what happens in their world? or is there a way to keep track of important events on your fortress?

DF Modding / Help cant use tiletypes

when I type "tiletypes" on dfhack console it says something like "tiletypes needs an interactive console to run" or something similar I dont remember exactly. What should I do? Do I need to install some plugin or software?
