DF Suggestions / Re: Serial killers instead of vampires
« on: April 29, 2016, 08:01:30 am »
Actually, serial killers aren't a modern concept, it's just the name for them is modern.  They used to just call them "depraved villains" or something.

I'd suspect with further personality advancements, there will be serial killers on the loose, as well as more mundane criminals, it's just that vampires allow for more clear transitions between a normal dwarf that mindlessly obeys the hivemind and a supernatural subversive dwarf that murders the other ants in their rest cycles.

That said, this suggestion is a bit nonsense.  If you don't like night creatures, just use the worldgen options to turn them off, problem solved.

I agree with the "depraved villains" concept, surely they didnt call them serial killers, but I´m sure that depraved murderers aren´t exclusive to our times only.

Ok so it seems I´m the only one that doesnt fancy pale sexy, blood soaked beards dorfs. Maybe its because when someone says vampire I imagine some kind of twilight model boy with a glued beard. Thanks for the tip on worldgen!

DF Suggestions / Re: No vampires
« on: April 28, 2016, 06:49:52 pm »
Is your suggestion to remove a feature? A lot of your suggestions seem to have been well thought out, but this one seems to amount to, "I don't like it!"

Anyway, there's an advanced world generation option to change the amount I believe.
I guess thats my suggestion, or at least change it to something "dwarfier" than vampires! I dont like it, and I think it haves no relation with dwarves at all. If it was vampires attacking the fortress that may be ok (for anyone who fancies vampires at least) but to me a vampire dwarf is absurd and kind of kills the immersion. I insist, maybe serial killer would be better and more believable

DF Suggestions / Serial killers instead of vampires
« on: April 28, 2016, 05:29:15 pm »
I don´t know who came up with the idea of vampire dwarfs, but for my it really sucks!
I mean really? VAMPIRE DWARVES? sorry but I think its a dumb concept.

If the idea was to add an intriguing, suspenseful feature maybe it could be better if it was a serial killer dwarf

But maybe there´s a way to deactivate vampires, if that´s the case please tell me how to do it.

DF Suggestions / Re: Sauna anyone?
« on: April 28, 2016, 05:22:24 pm »
Sauna Workshop or Magma Sauna Workshop.  Requires fuel / magma and water bucket.  Single Dwarf Usage.

Oh great! Then every Dorf will want one in his / her room XD
:D Well I know my dwarves do deserve something like that! Just a sexy hot bath with its companion after a hard day of work

DF General Discussion / Re: Y ppl talk about "learning curve" in DF?
« on: April 28, 2016, 05:18:26 pm »
Well might it be because DF is the most difficult game ever to learn? I had to print and take a few nights to read two or three times the Complete and Utter Newby Tutorial by TinyPirate just to learn the basics! And that was years ago, then each time I started playing again, with several month in between I just had to read it again and investigate forums and wikis to learn new more advanced concepts.

This time I might be on my 15th fortress or so, and just now I´ve learned how to make spiral ramps, I´ve fiddled some with console commands, started using the "record" commands feature, and so many new things and every time I´m learning more. But there is so much I haven´t even tried yet, like pumping water or magma through pipes, or many many other stuff. So I could say that I´m just about in the middle of that learning curve, even some years after I started playing!

DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarven Psychology Treaty
« on: April 28, 2016, 05:02:57 pm »
One thing I think could be got from the RAWS is that Dwarves see themselves as components of a community, rather than individuals like humans. I take this from the fact that killing a fellow Dwarf is punished by death in all cases. Even self defense.

It seems that Dwarves can see no case in where they would sanely attack another Dwarf. To hurt another Dwarf is to hurt them all, because community is not individual Dwarves, they all depend on each other.

Humans on the other hand allow killing of their own kind if there is a good reason for it.
Interesting I was thinking the other day that some dwarf´s behavior make them look like they have a collective mind, and that psychologically they are closer to ants, or termites than to humans (if psychology is anything applicable to ants, that is)

DF Modding / Re: How do I just dig tiles in dfhack?!
« on: April 27, 2016, 09:13:35 am »
I dont know if you already figured it out but these are the steps you should follow to dig empty spaces:
- In the console (the one outside DF, not the inside command prompt) type: tiletypes
- type: paint material air
- type: paint shape empty

optional: if you want more than just a single square digged you could type: range 2 2 1. That should dig 2x2 squares of empty space, with 1 z depth. You could also increase z depth by changing the last digit. For example: range 10 10 3 will dig a 10x10 square, with 3 zlevels depth.

To actually aplicate those parameters you should position your cursor where you want to dig (press K and move cursor around) and then in the console window press "enter", and so on, as many times as you want. Tiletypes is incredibly useful, you can paint walls, floors, rock etc etc, awesome!

If you need to look upwards, you can zoom in to first person view, then you have an unrestricted camera.
YES! thats exactly what I needed, thanks. By the way I´m totally rooting for blocky style!! those renders looks amazing dude.

9
Rotate the camera with the right mouse button.

You van change the number of layers with config.json

I know about right mouse button, its just that my fortress is really tall and the rotation angle is not enough. Anyway thanks a lot and congratulations, you are doing an amazing job!

this is amazing, I hope you get to finish it

Hi I was wondering if there is a way to fully rotate camera and also increase the amount of displayed layers. where can I get help file, or a keybind list?

DF Suggestions / Re: Clean patients with alcohol

Man I sure hope never comes the day I become a Master Forum Reader and a simple "+1" makes me go amok and yell at my monitor in anger, insult people, and even lose my capacity to read!
Stay here long enough and you'll go Armok and shed their blood.
+1

Well, I think the point is that a +1 is entirely pointless. Either add new info or don't post.

It's not mean, just informational and maybe we're a bit tired of boardnewbies saying "+1! I liek dis!!!" so we accidentally call "stupid newb" when someone says "+1! Also some new suggestionstuff!"

So by this I understand that for some magical reason when you see a "+1" you lose the capacity to read any further, since you keep insisting that I didn´t add any concept to the original idea.
So I will kindly transcript the rest of that sentence, beyond the famous "+1".

Here I go: "Maybe not just any booze, but pure alcohol, specifically made for health care industry. Instead* booze could be used by dwarves to treat their wounded mates on the field, after combat"

There you go. Man I sure hope never comes the day I become a Master Forum Reader and a simple "+1" makes me go amok and yell at my monitor in anger, insult people, and even lose my capacity to read! Ignorance is a bliss.
*added later for better understanding

DF Suggestions / Re: Kids auto assigned to their parent´s room
« on: April 21, 2016, 03:31:10 pm »
...no.

Children do not own the room, but they sleep in it.

If you are a child (or if you aren't, try to remember when you were), do you own your house? (Would you if your family owned a house?) No. The parents usually co-own the house, and the children also sleep there.

Children do not need rooms. They don't have quite the same requirements as adults, and they're normally unimportant anyway. They can be assigned bedrooms if you really want to keep them happy, but they may already get happy thoughts from sleeping in their parents' bedroom. They sure don't get unhappy thoughts from sleeping in their parents' bedroom, I've verified that.

======

The negative thoughts are a result of a lack of interaction. Give your dwarves more break time, keep them within a small social meeting place, or segregate the entire fortress into uninterconnected (relationship-wise) clans. (Last one may be a bit hard.)
oh ok. thanks for clearing that up. I hope my little dorfies wern´t too comfy in their rooms, because they are all returning to their mama´s

DF General Discussion / Dwarven Psychology Treaty
« on: April 21, 2016, 09:52:38 am »
On the DF Suggestions I suggested the chance to have an executioner and gallows, with public executions to bring justice to criminals and pow, and also bring peace and relief to the families of the victims. And then LMeire replied me that I´m just seeing thing from human perspective, that dwarves will be happy just when things are over and they can get back to work.
That simple sentence just blew my mind and make me see dwarves in a total different way.

I can almost see them working meticulosly just minding their own even with blood splatter all around them, or having lost a relative or friend a few minutes ago. You know, maybe feeling horrified, or sad but in a different way, still being able to get along
That makes me wonder about general dwarven psychology and how they relate to the world and with each other in comparison to humans.
Do they love, hate, fear, dream or build thoughts the same way as we do? There should be a DF Dwarven Psychology Treaty
