DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: No plaster powder

Check the job queues on the kilns themselves? Make sure you have a furnace operator handy (as opposed to a potter)?

You should be getting an error message if the problem is a missing ingredient...

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Gypsum_plaster

I do have a furnace operator handy ( I´ve queued some charcoal on my wood furnace just to try it, and he showed up immediately to work). And no error message shows up. The kiln job queues looks just fine, the make plaster powder option is there, just waiting for someone to take the job. I´ve also tried the "do it now" option but nothing happened

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Release_information/0.42.06 That info should be here.
You might also miss other game details (I had an issue with libraries, for instance) depending on how far back you've gone. For instance,  musical instruments are created at worldgen, so if you've got a world made in a pre-instrument version, you don't get the ability to manufacture any instruments even if you move the file to the latest version.

Then my dwarfs will dance in the deep dark bowels of earth, a silent dance to the rhythm of rock creaking, and the moans of fallen comrades ghosts

oh now I´m in doubt. I don´t remember exactly which version I have and I´m on other pc right now. Lets pretend I actually have the latest version, could there be something missing? Or if I should have 42.xx version there would be no chance to miss the tavern option?

Nope, you are right its a version issue. I´ve downloaded mine from here: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=7622
I hope my saves are still working with the new version

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / No plaster powder (solved)
« on: April 04, 2016, 09:19:00 am »
For some reason my dwarf won´t make plaster powder. I´ve got a magma kiln and everything needed. I have lots of gypsum, bags a Hospital zone with chests, cabinets, bags. Just in case I´ve also made some charcoal and a regular kiln. The "make plaster powder" option is white on my kiln, and dwarfs will make anything there, like clay pots, mugs, etc. No message of any missing material or condition shows up. But for some reason they are not making that damn plaster, and for the eye of Armok I swear my fortress could make a good use out of it. I have like 5 of my main miners and some engravers and farmers agonizing with limbs mangled beyond recognition, and bones coming out everywhere.

Got my v0.40.24 running good. Made a meeting area with (i), filled it with tables, chairs, cabinets and chests. Left a nice big space in the middle, wooden floored for my dwarfs to dance. But I cant find the option to make it a tavern. I´ve read in the wiki that I should designate it from the (i) menu where there should be a (l)ocation sub menu, but it doesnt show up. There are lots of mugs, drinks, food, instruments, goblets, idle dwarfs; everything I could ever need to have a tavern, what am I missing? I´ve also tried by making a big dinning room from one of the tables, designating it as a meeting hall, but that didnt work either.

If you ramp from the top down you can still do that pattern.

Instead of using dig designations just use a ramp there, it will remove that tile and the floor above it.
damn that sounds logical, will definitely try that out later. Its a shame I didnt realize it before. Lots of good miners were lost to their king´s crazy dreams of a legendary fortress. At least It inspired me to write a good story

so have you solved it already? I was in the same situation yesterday, then I realized there was no buckets. Made a few and thats it, lots of soap for my dirty dorfs. Also make sure to have lots of cabinets and chests in your Hospital so they can store soap there

also if you want to make a story try either taking notes of various things and screenshotting battle reports
Press 'r' for battle reports.
Try watching particular dwarves going about their daily life. Maybe pick a few in particular and give them nice bedrooms and particular offices. Make up a rationalization for their privileged status, and start building the fort around their imagined lives?

Or play sloppily and watch the drama as things go wrong. That's another approach.

Ok thank for the advices! I guess I ´ll try to finish building my fortress first and then start recording my history for the generations to come

Incidentally, I don't know why I forgot to mention it but using ramps instead of channeling is MUCH safer. You kinda have to try to get cave-ins if you're doing ramp-removal of a layer at a time. I did four full underground levels on a 2x2 with no accidents whatsoever.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this. Still I think that I wont be able to use your method. Maybe I can explain better with this sketch:

The fortress on the outside is very irregular. My dwarves deliberatly left the outsides very rough, in contrast with the luxurious insides. So my method to channel all that empty spaces out is first digging all the gray squares and then channel them out starting from the edges and finishing in the closest square to the fortress, then shutting that square with a wall or just letting it open like a big window to the open cave. so far I did almost 3 z levels. I already have most of the living and working buildings complete, i´ve brought water from the surface 130zlevels above to have farms, and the fortress is totally functional by now. Its just the outsides that I have to finish.  It seems I will be doing this like a month or more. I thought that maybe tiletypes could help, but I cant even run that sh#"

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Cant use tiletypes

I'm on a phone, so I can't confirm this, but I'm pretty sure that an "interactive console" means you have to be in the look menu, or some similar interface within dwarf fortress. If you're just sitting around unpaused, or in the stocks menu or something, tile types won't work. It needs a single point to work off of, otherwise it won't know where to paint.

Again: Phone. From memory. May not help.
nope. that didnt work either

Stories are all about in-game true events. Stuff like what dwarves said to each other, etc are made up but everything else, down to the very specific battle reports (biting fingers) happens in-game.
what would be the best way to get to this reports? I´ve tried once with legendviewer but I didnt quite get that. Is there an easier way? Or maybe I should take a little time to try and figure that legendviewer out

I´ve seen on the web a lot of cool, funny, and/or dramatic stories from different dwarf fortresses. Are they free interpretations of each fortress owner/creator based loosely on what happens in their world? or is there a way to keep track of important events on your fortress?

It means that the tiletypes plugin is broken - the DFHack console is the interactive console it wants you to use (as opposed to the "dfhack-run" program you can run from a separate command prompt).
ok thanks. any idea where can I get the tiletype plugin to re-install it?
