How would you go about making sure the statues relate to the conflict?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

By using the 'details' tab for picking what will go on the statue. It will light up and be under 'd' in the 'choose what you want the forge to make' thingy if you can add details. Aka: figurines, statues, those kinds of things.

Sorry! I forgot to dwarf peeps and now I'm gonna only dwarf on those who don't have 'Comrade' with their name. Comrade Reg and Comrade Iteb shall remain!!!!!

The execution chamber.
Call it Sputnik.
Sputnik I.

Maybe. Superfluous Pitching Upward Total N00b Killing  Internia? SPUTNIK I?

332
So which one is Senshuken?

^^; I totally forgot to have this topic pulled up to get names for dorfing peeps. Fear not however! A naming ceremony in honor of the death of the tyrant shall happen and unnicknamed peeps will be renamed.

Welp. Wasn't even the first time a person bearing the name "Vuohijumala" gets brutalised by werecreatures.. :D Had no idea werepersons from other fortresses are able to come and attack the player fortress. This game is such awesomeness.

Vuoh, what materials do you want your coffin and the statues of your tomb to be made from? And the designs of the statues if you wanna go that far?

Got anything brown? I mean red? Maybe make a few statues about Vuohijumalovich and Delerdorf? Both melting.

..are we allowed redorfing? :D

Well. We have orange and yellow rock. Wood is brown. XD Oh. Copper? Plenty of that. Want everything made from copper?

Absolutely yes redorfing is allowed! I want to see which named dwarf is the least lucky

333
OOC: Alright! Here it is! Frankly, out earlier than I expected. XD I managed to play through a whole year in about oh...5 hours? Got a pretty good amount done for what I have.

Not much has happened since the start of this new year, drafted a few defense ideas then set the miners to work on them. Until today. We got our first migrant wave! All of them from Redstar, they must have gotten sick of how that tyrant, Delerdorf was running things and headed here. Or got sent out for 'conspiracy against the state' and found their way here. We welcome our comrades with open arms! (Especially because none of them worship any gods of blight, thank Armok).

The extra hands have been quite helpful! The ones who've dug even brought picks with them! This has made the various digging projects go much quicker. Especially the project to dig ever deeper! It has been announced, combined with a light breeze and puff of cavern spores, that the first layer has been discovered! I went to see for myself, then quickly ordered the stairs that lead into the hole in the roof that was made to be knocked out before being floored over. Can't have anything getting inside just yet! Even if it is only flying creatures. The miners quickly set about digging a route around the cavern toward a floor segment, but don't breach it. I'll have them cagetrap that place from here to Boatmurdered, to Deathgate, and back! Then put a two by three drawbridge just in front of the stairs later to be safe. Then, and only then, shall we breach the wall! I shall add a sketch later.

Nothing to note has happened for some time. Well, aside from Jack Frost chewing a plump helmet biscuit into the shape of a crossbow. I believe he's been drawing designs in the dirt outside, and I've found some crossbow shaped markings made from blood in the rarely visited corners of where we were outlining the aquifers. That dorf really wants his crossbow it seems...
Ah! I'm getting off track! Today the liason and caravan from the mountainhome has arrived! Good to see that they've not listened to Delerdorf. I ask them for threads, cloth, instruments, cheese, booze, and a few other things in the trade agreement. Then I had Rosareven make some wooden shields as quickly as possible to use in trade. We got a few things of cloth, some iron armor for Sanctume II, a bronze toy boat for the little one who came in the migrant wave...OH! And more picks! Always in need of more picks!

This is fairly bad. We've run out of food! I tell the dwarves to get to grabbing what they can from the surface if they want to live.

The food crisis is still ongoing, but there's some good news! Iteb has given birth to a girl! Our sanctuary and my group of children have grown by one! Rejoice!

More good news! Migrants! They can help pick plants for the time being until the plump helmets are grown.

Well, Iteb has been struck by a mood! I guess having a baby gave her an idea. I'd better tell someone to make a metalsmith's forge before she goes crazy. A legendary blacksmith on top of our legendary mason would be fantastic! Oh. I forgot to mention that in yesterday's log. Ah. As I was going through the papers of the migrants, Reg stood out due to her masonry skills. Those will be helpful in making this place even better than the mountain home and showing up that Commie Tyrant!

Well. That tyrant must have decided to take the carvan's choice to leave into his own hands. Delerdorf has appeared upon our doorstep!!! Warped and twisted by the evils of this place to show his true form! As a result he has found us instead! TO ARMS! FOR ARMOK! GO SANCTUME! GO MINERS! DESTROY THE TYRANT LIKE HE DESTROYED YOUR HOMES!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm watching the battle from around a corner. The tyrant was momentarily distracted by a dog we set up to watch for kobolds before setting his burning, power lusting gaze upon Vuohijumalovich. I wish I could say that he set upon the tyrant with his pick, but I cannot. Instead the tyrant set upon him with his teeth, shaking Vuohijumalovich like a dog does to a rope as it's being trained to fight or playing. I can see his clothes slowly turning red from here as his skin is torn open and blood seeps out from ripped vessels.

I quickly checked my file on Vuohijumalovich's name and realized something quite morbidly ironic about this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

During that time, the tyrant had moved his biting to Vuohijumalovich's head. If he survives, he'll no doubt be twisted by the accursed lands like the tyrant was. I can hear his cries for help from here... OH! Here comes some help! Tovarish CABL slams her pick into the tyrant's left hand! Hoorah! Time to him to feel what a beating is like! In my excitment I'm afraid I missed when Vuohijumalovich died. He bled out in battle, so Armok couldn't be prouder. I shall pray to Armok for how to properly entomb such a worthy dwarf later.

(OOC: Hooray for Armok granting me the power to see those who are cursed!)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soon after Tovarisch CABL saw that Vuohijumalovich had been killed, she put all her vengeance into her next swing and disemboweled the tyrant with a fountain of blood worthy for the altar of Armok. Surely she is blessed!

Unfortunately, it was not her who got the true killing blow, but she brought the Tyrant down enough and stepped back so that someone else may take some of the glory. Such a humble soul. Kogan must also be blessed for her pick cut the tyrant in twain! Both of these are statue worthy. I think I'll have each blow made in the metal or stone of their liking. Then they'll be placed along the caravan entrance.

Journal of High Priest of Armokian Socialism
Timber 13 Y29

The forge was completed before the fight so she grabbed a copper bar, and we were waiting on a gem cutters to be set up temporarily by the temporary general stockpile to cut a few gems for Iteb to use during the fight. Today she grabbed the first one and set about making our first artifact! Because she's a blacksmith, it will be useful no matter what.

Journal of High Priest of Armokian Socialism
Timber 17 Y29

The artifact has been finished!!! A fine item, perfect to be used in Tovarisch CABL's room.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We now have a legendary blacksmith! Beautiful statues and metal chests and chairs and other such things shall be made for sure! Alongside the stone and rock ones made by Reg, we'll be overflowing with masterwork items. Well. We would if I refused to let them make more than we need. I'll loosen the amount for trading later once we're firmly established.

In honor of Tovarisch CABL's glorious fight, this years ordained coins shall be made from Trifle Pewter!

Took them a few days to haul the ores up to smelt them into trifle pewter, then a shorter period for Jack Frost to mint them, then a few more days to get them placed next to the Y28 coins in the dining hall. Thankfully it didn't take a few weeks into next year this time!

Doesn't matter how impressive the defenses are if the defenders aren't happy, healthy or well rested.

Well, I'm gonna be making where the tavern is gonna go as a temporary dormitory. And the (initial) defenses are gonna be traps, dodge-me traps, and ballista. I also need to work on the execution chamber...

335
Alright. The thing voted for the most is to work on the defenses and surface workshops and stuff. I'll have a post up by the end of the week (hopefully)

Congrats on reaching dwarf status.

337
That goo is beautifully red.. We must not run away from it, we must embrace it.

The goo is a disgusting grey color.

Edit: He worships the blight!!!

338
Set up defenses, build a rough palisade encircling what is soon to be Blightmurder with a single gate.

I was planning to have as much underground as possible so that the bearded, mood-swinging psychos didn't freak out every time it rained goo.

Speaking of that. I need to make a dwarven bathtub. Could I channel a diagonal route from the river to a bathtub, then into the aquifer?

339
Psssst! The list has been added to and there's a new poll!

340
And what will be the forbidden coins be used for?

They're not forbidden. XD They're to be used to keep track of how many years the fortress lives.

341
Eventually, you will lose track of where those coins are, and Jack will have his Y28 silver crossbow.

Yeah, he'll have his crossbow. XD And no I won't. :P If I forbid the coins from going into any stockpile but the single square one along the wall of the dining hall, and make a new square only when coins are minted, they'll all be lined up nice and neat.

342
OOC: This is gonna be fairly short(?) Due to it being like, half the year. Max.

I've put Rosareven onto being our woodsman and carpenter for the moment, rough beds are better than none after all!

Ferrous Builder quickly began digging into the nearby hill, with Tovarisch CABL and Vuohijumalovich soon joining him, in order to give us some respite from the rains and fogs that permeate these lands. Haven't seen either in a few days so far. Doesn't bode too well... One is bound to come about soon!

*the writing goes into squiggles as if the pen was jerked around from shuddering.* --le I have given myself the tasks of brewing and cooking, and some farming, so that our meals may be blessed by Armok from the get go! Of course, blessing the food before eating is always good, double the blessings, double the strength given!

Sanctume has taken up watching the entrance, to make sure we're remaining guarded nicely, while Jack Frost has been doing nothing but muttering about crossbows. He's gonna have to make his own because we lost all of them several weeks ago. He can make it out of metal once we find some of that.

Ferrous Builder, Tovarisch CABL, and Vuohijumalovich reported finding damp stone. That's not good. One of those bloody aquifers is right where we're digging down! I order them to make long tunnels in the cardinal directions then dig some stairs down find where it ends.

Journal of High Priest of Armokian Socialism
Sandstone 16 Y28

The edge has been found! Thank Armok! I have them begin outlining a portion of the aquifer to see it's shape. But I fear there might be more than one layer to it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I also have them begin work on digging a small storage room so we can begin pulling in all the stuff from the wagon before that nasty weather kicks in again.

I knew it I knew it I knew it! The gods of blight and disease have struck at last! They're trying to stop us with this rotten goo! Well I won't have it! OH ARMOK HEAR OUR PRAYERS! PROTECT US FROM THIS BLIGHT! DRIVE AWAY THE EVIL INFLUENCE!

It has been weeks since the goo first fell upon us. It's rained many times since, but nothing, not even the animals have gotten sick! Oh thank you Armok! We shall make a sacrifice soon to help your holy strength cleanse these evil lands!

Due to a lack of happenings, I've added some sketches of the fortress so far.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Above is the entrance with a simple drawbridge raising inward. The room to the bottom is a carpenter's workshop and a small wood stockpile. The chair and table to the right are to make a tiny dining room and meeting area so they stop standing out in the goo. Armok knows how many times I've had to drop what I'm doing and run to the nearest water pool to clean it off while praying madly. The room behind the stairs is a small farm. Enough for seven of us. I plan to turn the storage room into a proper large farm once we've got proper underground dwellings.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
There's the finished temporary storage room and a temporary mason's workshop to make a few blocks for building and some doors to add to the dining room. You can see the aquifer probes.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The beginnings of one of what shall be many legendary dining rooms. The stairs in the middle lead to the food and booze storage, all blessed during creation by myself. I think I'll train all cooks and brewers in how to properly bless the food and booze so that we aren't without proper physical spiritual nourishment. I am quite proud of the dining room, mainly because I'm helping smooth it. Soon I'll set about giving a dwarf the task of getting really good with detailing and engraving, then I'll teach them the rites of carving, so that all he makes will have the blessing of Armok! But I'll help smooth every dining room so that I can give second blessings to all the food and booze that enters.

Here is the food storage, kitchen, and still.

Spring is fast approaching, and I've realized that the ordained coins of the year have yet to be made! A vote was sent out about what metal to make the coins out of this year, only four voted and it was silver. An appropriate choice given how pure such a metal looks. I quickly set about ordering a wood burning furnace to be built so we may have charcoal, along with a smelter's so we might get the tetrahedrite smelted down into copper and silver.

Now if only I can get Jack Frost to shut up about his stupid, Armok-damned crossbow and get to work smelting the ores to find silver, and then make those bloody coins.

Journal of High Priest of Armokian Socialism

I can't believe that dolt required me swatting him with this book to get started on those coins. Oh Armok, forgive me, Jack Frost, you too. I let my anger get the best of me. Still, enough about the crossbow already.

A new year has come and it's taken me several days of looking through bins and buckets and barrels to find those ordained coins, then several more to until today to tell these boozeheads where to put them. In the dining room! How hard is that?! Finally I've gotten a look at them.

Here's a view of the surface. ALL THAT DISGUSTING GOO!!!!
Ahem, you can see the entrance in the bottom right.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The temporary store room, not much has changed here, nor will much change for a while until I've got proper underground stuff set up. Hmm...Probably going to have a few layers to the fortress. Farmers, clothiers, carpenters, and the like will be on the upper level which is what's currently being worked on. Then maybe the masons and such in the second layer, and metal smiths and such in the bottom layer near the magma sea... Yes. I like that plan.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
More of the first layer of the aquifer has been dug out. I'll have the full thing slowly dug out when the miners have nothing else to be doing.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Same thing with the second layer.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Here is the dining room, fully smoothed out and with the coin wall started wonderfully. Bedrooms will be built off the hallway.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And my lovely kitchen and still and food stockpile!

Before I forget, we need defenses as soon as possible. Perhaps I should make the miners do that first? No. No. The drawbridge will work just fine for now. We have very little of value here at the moment as it is, so we shall not need to worry too much just yet. What is needed is the purification chamber. A drawbridge, deep pit, serrated disk traps at the bottom. Yes. Cover everything in blood! Glorious blood for to empower Armok to purify these vile lands! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! BONES FOR THE BONE THRONE!

Ahemmhrrmhmrmhm. Sorry, I got a little carried away there. Here's the End of Year (EoY) statistics.

Ok. I'm gonna go ahead and call 'silver' the winner. Time to smelt that tetrahedrite. XD

344
What are "Y28" coins?
Ok, thanks.

Oh, Crap. I totally missed your question. Y28 stands for "Year 28". I'm just lazy and don't want to write out the whole thing.

345
I've made a poll about what metal the coins for Y28 should be. Kinda want to get them made before the year turns. xD I'd appreciate some voting. :P
