Other Games / Dominions 6: Rise of the Pantokrator Released
« on: July 22, 2023, 08:58:16 am »
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2511500/Dominions_6__Rise_of_the_Pantokrator/

So here's that. Like giving more importance to plain troops as an idea. But it probably will mean that in cases where it didn't matter whether you have 100 or 200 footmen, you will have those 200 footmen.  :P

Life Advice / Sleeping woes
« on: October 24, 2022, 12:21:12 am »
Between recently "repaired" elevator and radio-blasting neighbor, i get only about 5 hours per day FOR sleeping, and it doesn't look like that will ever change. When i put my fingers in my ears i, at least, do not hear the elevator, but one can hardly keep them in constantly. Ordinary rubber earplugs (like those)

seem to be worthless, only managing to block out the usual car noise because there are less cars around now. So, what better stuff there is to stuff into one's ears?

Other Games / Life and Suffering of Sir Brante - Long Die the Gloomy Man
« on: February 27, 2021, 04:39:02 am »
Recently stumbled upon this likely wonderful text game. So it's like Long Live the Queen but
It's monochrome late medieval instead of pinky anime medieval...
And there is vastly more text...
And it is a lot longer in general...
And there is a grand total of six skills...
And you up them by doing sort of relevant actions...
And you got four lives...
And all most important events for current chapter and their skill requirements are always visible...
As are relations...
Totally diffirent game really.  :P

The bad - it is not out yet, release date is March 4. The great - there is an about 4 hours long demo that contains first two chapters out of five, and it is really damn great. Saves will most likely go over to full game, so you can play it now and get prematurely excited.  :P As it happens, first two chapters are the shortest. As there will be at least 3 distinctive paths and they got to make use of all "Tom will remember this", this still has potential to turn out as a story trainwreck. I fear that main character will become a Mary Sue that will govern over fates of kingdoms, religions and Ye Gads for no proper reason. He is not at all like this in demo (bar just maybe scene in church), but steam page does not look reassuring.

Also, almost everyone got four lives there, not just main character. To mitigate silly spawnkilling, Very Important Pork and those sentenced to death got just one.

Ah yes, steam page.

DF Gameplay Questions / Glitched book on unretire
« on: October 09, 2020, 03:42:10 am »
Brought necrobook to forteress with adventurer to make a necromancer fortress, placed it on library's floor. After unretire it ended up on the surface and dwarves completely ignore it. Will not haul it to library or stockpile or read it. Book bought from caravan works just fine. Any way to unglitch it or prevent glitch from happening in the first place? I have some backup saves just in case.  ::) Randomly tried cleanowned and troubleshoot-item in dfhack to no result. Adventurer left the fortress immidiately after me settling him.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Fun (or not) divination dice effects?
« on: January 29, 2020, 03:21:26 pm »
Just decided to make a topic for sharing those, however much distinct ones there are. I got this, after i got "bone-chilling horror" trouble quest against a group that apparently never had any necromancers in it, but i don't think it was related.

Play With Your Buddies / X-piratez succession game
« on: July 14, 2019, 07:44:19 am »
Starting story, diligently censored.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, "inspired" (i didn't actually read it, maybe there is nothing inspiring in it after all  :P )by this thing, we are making X-piratez succession game. If someone doesn't know, X-piratez is a mod for OpenXcom, which is mod\modern system compatibility patch for ye olde UFO: Enemy unknown. It's totally amazing, so if you like UFO, are not put off by boobs (and disappropiately hideous actual soldiers in game) galore, constantly trying to find useful and usable stuff among mountains of pointless trash-weaponry and obscenely long time needed to finish single playtrough, try it.

Installation:
1. Download the mod from the main thread.
2. Download vanilla game.
3. Put vanilla game files in UFO folder in mod folder, so it will be like "Dioxine_XPiratez\UFO\GAME_1 or whatever"

Rules:
Difficulty - ironman, because saveloading in succession games is stupid. Either 3 or 4. 3 was Enough for me when i played first, but i'm not that great at it and my playstile would make munchkins cringe, so maybe 4 would be just fine for them. Then again, ironman.
Turn is either 2 in-game month or up to 1 real time week long (can be changed as needed). Rest is standart for succession games, "dwarfings" included.
No screens of naked boobs. And naked arses too (that are not part of in-battle units  :P). Because The Rules. No one can defy The Rules.
Deciding on important choices (Males Y\N, Codex color, Torturing Dr x Y\N) - up to debate for now.
No selling menacing hull\small drill, they are damn important. But i'm pretty sure everyone knows that already.

Turnlist:
MCreeper 1 2 SAVE
Iduno 1 2 We already lost.
Rolan7 1 2 But we still kick arse
Robsoie 1 SAVE
Rince Wind 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 SAVE
MCreeper Fucking disaster
Iduno 1 2 SAVE
Rolan 7 1 2 3 4 SAVE
EuchreJack 1 2 3 4 5 6 SAVE
Robsoie 1 2 3 4 SAVE
Rincewind 1 2 3 4 5 SAVE
Iduno 1 2 3 4 5 SAVE
Rolan7 1 2 3 SAVE
Robsoie 1 2 3 4 SAVE

For those that played as them more than i did: how they would play in succession game? I didn't really played much as them and do not understand even third of mechanics, and know that:
1. There is only two mugrant waves and no caravans, then you must (apparently somewhat buggily) make zombies.
2. (some) Zombies can only eat meat, wherever you would get it.
3. Everyone hates your guts and constantly sieges and ambushes you, and first siege is on the first autumn.
4. All warlocks look exactly same and have exactly same character, but that can be ignored.  :P
5. They can summon sieges if there are not enough of them and trade corpses(souls?) for resources.
Actually i get an urge to start masterwork dwarves game instead just by remembering their magic, and i think it would be better, but for a change, in theory maybe in parralel?

Ok, here the save. War and mythos mod, created in 44.05, played in 44.07, encountered in 44.05.
And here is the picture
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
There is huge pumpstack pumping water to upper levels. From where all this water keeps coming from? To me it looks like it's not only smoothed stone spewing water, but also smoothed hematite spewing water, despite not being a valid aquifer stone in the first place. If it's a bug, and not just some kind of weird behaviour, i'm placing this on bug tracker.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Water poisoning question
« on: October 12, 2017, 06:46:23 am »
Question: if you have underground lake poisoned by forgotten beast, can you wall it off from rest of the caverns, then dig shaft from top and pour water in until it reaches pumps few z-levels above ground, and get basically infinite amounts of poisoned water that you can pour on whatever you want? It should work, but i'm in doubt, because i nevere seen anyone do something like that.  :-\
