DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Unplayable - Deady Body * 60 * all my dwarves

- Make sure you military is satisfying their needs instead of "individual combat drilling" their way to the brink of madness. To do this with the least micromanagement possible, exploit the fact that on-duty dwarves ignore burrow restrictions. Designate the ENTIRE map, from the sky to the magma sea, as a burrow. Then cut the barracks out of that burrow. That way, unless they are scheduled to train, your military will not go in there.

*tests*

It works! (expect unless the dorf is already drilling, which'll pass)

Also, you only need to cut out barracks building itself out of the burrow to make it work, which is useful if you place barracks in active areas on purpose.

Thanks for sharing, this is useful.

Oh hm. Outside, looting, the sun, massive corpse closet (that one is nice to look at).

Tbh thought you had made a workaround for insanity.

With werebeasts, I recall it's supposed to be safe(r) to kill them when exiled. I think when old mayor was no longer considered part of your group, the cat and new mayor considered him fair game.

But the results do look like loyalty cascade anyway. Scared animals, mass combat.

I think you meant for animals to take blows. Did they ever take any or did they just starve?

Did the kitten survive?

Ah, good catch & my bad; don't know then.

I would guess they also won't use the training facilities if they're unpathable*, so could combine that with month-long repeater.

* Bridge/grate drop with walled off barrack building, flooding a recessed room, lowering vertical bars/grates...

Also, iirc if their training facility is overlaid with a library (in right order? don't recall) and they're scholar in it, they'll ponder instead of doing individual drills, though this unfortunately won't satisfy their socializing and praying needs.

Then it has changed since you last checked: Crafting Statistics 42.06. Now both item and material contribute to quality, though this is very little once the dwarf is trained.

Of course, that was carpentry.

Granted, in looking at few saves I have, I can find no preferences for book binding and grand total of 1 preference for scroll rollers (a former-child immigrant in the 1500 pop megafortress).

Independently confirmed papermaking boosts strength, agility, kinesthetic sense, spatial sense via script+farmer's workshop, and same way for then making quires out of these sheets for kinesthetic sense, agility and spatial sense.

I'd use military menu civilian alert before that, since that will cancel jobs with forbidden area.

For the sake of ptw, should probably repost here:

"- I used DFhack tiletypes to remove the shallow metal on my embark and add in the 7 layer aquifer, the depth of which is consistent with the aquifers in discarded worlds where I was able to get spots that had aquifers. Those tended to be anywhere from 4-8z deep and leaned towards 5 or 6." Jeez

Yes, but you'd think 800 would be able to kill off a few civs in a small world.
It only takes a dozen megabeasts to do the same, so.
Yeah semis seem fairly harmless

They can still strangle civs, but will not wreck sites usually
(the strangling being much like wild creatures can)

I think having small island for all your civs and large landmass(es) for megabeasts could get reasonable frequency of some number of megabeasts not appearing where civs are
Even then they're still once every few years though

Still using gifcam?

And heh, Avuz came to the right place, given the like for ice wolves

Considered editing colors for cyan to be less bright?

I recall previous single-pick challenges on evil embarks opened up air from inside, by making a to above from edges and then immediatelly removing it, though you'd have needed to build floors anyway.

I assume you used AFM, but I recall that only gave you 3 layers? How did you smooth the walls here?

You could use dfhack changelayer to change the inappropriately-placed slade to some other soil layer, I guess. It's possible to have save-specific inits (to be used in mods).

Alternatively, what if you make a soil large clusters which only appear in slade? Not sure soil obeys those rules, but could be worth a check.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How do I diagnose a crash?
« on: November 01, 2019, 08:36:04 am »
Well, then I'd say try vanilla and see if it will crash similarly.

Retire-unretire can also help against other bugs, but I don't know about any other crash bugs being affected by it.

Troglos, trolls, blind cave ogres etc. are animal rules because they have SLOW_LEARNER, which removes the need for marriage.

E: Though having mentioned it, it now occurs to me that you could maybe mod gorlaks to be slow learners too until they get pregnant.
