Odelia wants to deride, to chastise, to nag about Rulao giving up this chance but well... The words he said on the last turn still linger inside her head. The boy may be belligerent, obstinate, and most certainly chasing the single worst goalpost she'd ever seen, but it seemed there was some far deeper understanding, or perhaps connection, to CYOGTCG in that boy than mere luck and skill. She knew that he of all people knew what he was giving up, and that he'd rather she have it.

Well, Rulao had won the card. Clearly, wasn't it then up to his decision what was done with it?

Odelia reaches out for the sleeve of the Holographic Card

(Dang, if I had played even one different or extra card at the end there it would have saved me for another turn, potentially even won the game, but god, I legitimately had a card in my deck to counter basically every single tactic Rulao used, and just never drew them until after those tactics had only been dismantled the slow and painful way. Oh well, good game. Now it's just a matter of 'what does Odelia even decide to do with that declaration'.)

Odelia leaned forward, and let out a deep breath. Already analyzing exactly how she could have prevented that scenario, the Gandr she was already holding would have left that monster low enough that it would have to sacrifice itself to get through the then weakened Arash. Well, on the field of battle, even the slightest mistake can lead to utter defeat.

She lays down her own hand.


He was just going to give up the card? Like that?... No, Odelia wasn't going to give in to some misbegotten feeling of pride telling her she shouldn't be allowed to get the card if she didn't win it herself. But... she wasn't going to let him walk away with nothing if she could help it either. Perhaps they wouldn't let her have the Holographic Card just because Rulao didn't want it but... fuck it. If that was the case then it would just mean she had to convince him to take it.

She left the table.

(not to mention, what happens to a Roman Soldier, whose stats are decided by its effect, when it loses the effect?)

This was not a foe to be taken lightly. Could she destroy it with what she had now? Certainly. But the costs would be immense. Then again... if she didn't draw the card she needed within these two turns, it would be the same regardless. No, it didn't matter, she had to hold on.

Marching up besides the Roman formation comes a French Spearman


"Hold the line men!"

Odelia draws and blinks. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one, even if it wasn't any sort of huge play.

"Why do I play hmm? Well, in truth, this game and its connection to history are fascinating. Think about it. Souls? Monsters? Cards that simply manifest from energy and willpower? All of it was at best unproven, at worst would have been laughed off as fiction. Now, CYOGTCG exists, and with it, we've proven that humans and animals alike have souls, we've proven that monsters exist. How much of myth and legend was real, and we just didn't know because it was all just... gone by the modern day?"

Another soldier joins his partner in line, placing himself in front of his unprotected comrade


"So in the end, it's not about what I stand to lose. All of my own that I could lose is my dignity. It's about what humanity has already lost, things that I refuse to rest until we've found."

The undefended soldier rushes forward with his companion, and the two work in concert, the new arrival using his shield to bash a crack in the mossy shell, while the shieldless soldier drove his javelin through the hole and out the other side, but not without the claw carving a gash in his side.

Odelia draws her cards. She thought her luck before was bad, but this? It was like at every turn she drew the worst possible card that would still technically "help".

A bolt of black and red lances out, tearing through the remains of the kelp forest.

Odelia draws a card. There's no hesitation in her eyes, no sense of worry at the loss of her greatest card. No, there's only conviction. The look in her eyes is nothing less than that with which one would face down every single thing that's wrong in the world.

Odelia plays her card.

Another fang sprouts. The army, that had stood frozen in silence, stares onward. But the Dragons Teeth show no fear. They only march forth to fight. That is their purpose.

Jaws snap, and glowing lines cross the skeletal form.

(Is this Odelia baring her SOUL for all the world to see, or just caught up in the heat of the moment and ranting? Well, she'll certainly claim it to be the latter afterwards that's for sure)
