DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Removing atheist dwarves?

To everyone recommending exile/fiery doom, while I appreciate your creativity I'm trying to find a way where all dwarves in my fortress have a deity and I don't halve my growth rates.

I have to ask: how did you do that final text effect (beyond reddening)? It's really cool.

Explain? Merciful spirit? I don't understand.

It is the fact a kind a merciful spirit figured the best way to save the world was with toxic substances.

The world in the question must be a terrible and unholy stain that must be purified by cleansing touch of the forgotten beast's dust fine and dandy place.

BUT WHATS A MERCIFUL SPIRIT IS IT A GHOST OR SOMETHING CAN GHOSTS WRITE BOOKS

'Spirit' can refer to a still-living still-embodied person in the English language.

Do note that scholars are also book thieves.

Not if you never let them leave.

Magma?

I won't deny its versatility, but I think I'd prefer a way that doesn't horribly stunt my fortress growth if an unideal migrant wave comes along.

I have this idea for a fortress sorted by religion, but atheist dwarves would complicate that a lot. It's not like I occasionally come across one either; my last migrant wave consisted entirely of them. Therefore, I'd like to remove them from the game.

Is there an easy way to make all dwarves have one or more deities?

Dear mayor,

I wasn't too happy when you got yourself elected and forced me to spend precious time and platinum on getting you your living quarters, but I still don't understand how you got yourself stuck against the wall when the stairs you were on got deconstructed. At least all other dwarves had the decency of falling a few z-levels, breaking some bones, and resuming their jobs after medical care. You I couldn't get down until I build a completely new set of stairs.

Also, watch it with the dark humor. Banning the export of coffins is fine, but don't do so right after the aforementioned dwarves fell down.

Love, your overseer

We should really have that option.
To sire children.

I believe it's planned.

Dear outpost liaison,

When are you going to go insane? I want to see if you can topple that temple statue and get a cool trait. Instead, you just walk around boringly.

With impatient love,

Derro

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Were-creatures attacking each other?
« on: October 18, 2016, 01:06:51 am »
Okay, two of them don't seem to attack each other, whether they transform within line of sight of one another or not. The other two still seem hostile. I can't remember who was bit when, so I can't comment on their were-lineages.

[edit] put the two in close proximity: they still attacked each other. It seems that transforming separately might be the way to prevent were-mortalities, but I can't think of any way to reasonably automate the process so that were-creatures are separated during transformation only. For now they will have to have separate quarters.

Werebeasts start growing thirsty or hungry towards the end of their cycles. Maybe give all dwarves a dining room at the end of a very long corridor, so that they'll be moving down the corridor at the moment of transformation?

Try letting them transform alone, then see if they still attack each other when they meet each other in were-form.

Transformations aren't exactly simultaneous. If a single dwarf transforms just before another, there will be a brief period in which a weregoat can see an unturned dwarf, which triggers hostility.

It's interesting to note that his name was random-genned. I didn't name him Urist or anything, it just happened and was the first name I got. I dunno what his name actually means (since I wasn't paying attention), but it's probably something like Urist Catdog or something. Still, a neat fact. Wonder how he got the name Urist.

'Sut' is human for 'bone'. 'Torish' is dwarven for 'crown'. Apparently this guy is called 'Dagger Bonecrown': talk about coincidences.

After a major crash, I've started a new fortress: Legendhole.

I'm trying to build something new here: a giant channeled hole (over a hundred feet wide) with a pillar of untouched soil and stone in the middle, and bridges between the main pillar and the various rooms in the side of the hole. Right now, it's about ten z-levels deep, where I've temporarily ceased further channeling to let my dwarves move their stuff into the fortress proper.

While I was doing this, one dwarf got into a fey mood. He screamed for plant cloth, so I had some made. He then grabbed the cloth, as well as a lump of coal, and created... an artifact pig tail glove with hanging rings of pig tail and spikes of bituminous coal. It's now the Official Militia Captain Decoration.

Also, a hill titan visited (I set titans to appear at 30 dwarves). My fortress is, at the time, still very vulnerable to building destroyers, so I sent the militia in. Fortunately, the titan was made out of mud and was taken down without any dwarves getting hit or being poisoned by its spittle.

The siege may just have exhausted their supply of bodies to send in.
