I find this incredibly fascinating :D

But people on the street will tell you, 'you are king'. That's gotta be worth it.

And flattering!

adventurer's souls are kinda empty and barebones compared to a Normal Dwarf's soul... or well any Dwarf fortress character's Soul.
the only other soul that close to the barren adventurer's soul is the zombie unit who Doesn't even Have one.

Personally I was inspired by the RPG called 'OFF' (by Mortis Ghost) which refers to the Batter, the main character, as the 'puppet', and the player controlling him as 'the puppeteer'.

The Batter is aware of his and the player's status, that the player controls his movements and actions.
__________________________________________________

The Batter: I'm the Batter. I've been assigned to a sacred mission.
The Judge: It is a pleasure. However, it is not the puppet I was addressing, but the puppeteer controlling it. What is your name, dear puppeteer?
The Batter: His name is <player name here>. He can't talk to us. However, he can hear and see everything.
__________________________________________________

Can't talk to them, but sees and hears everything? Ha, that sounds a lot like what I do in lots of games!

Thus I personally find it easy to bring this Puppet-Puppeteer perception into other games, regardless of whether the characters are aware of the player.

So in the same way that's my relationship with my adventurer; I'm the puppeteer, and by my puppet's personality traits he feels no anger, stress or sadness, just like the awesome un-feeling purifier, the Batter. And so we travel the world together ridding it of bone-chilling horrors.

Straight to the point, how do you complete it? :E

At the very least, does anyone know what your adventurer says upon completion?

i.e. for kill quest, the adventurer says to their lord/lady: "I am your loyal hearthperson. The (Night Troll name here) is dead! (Night troll name here) was slain."
I've never gotten to see what they say for completing a 'cause trouble' quest.

I've really exhausted my search. There are a few rumours here and there about ToadyOne detailing how it could be done, but the extent of my Google-fu couldn't find it.

As I'm really not sure: Is this a bug, or is it ok?
I'm quite hoping the townfolk wouldn't live their lives still in fear of the vampire (as they still talk about him in 'inquire troubles'),
even though they know he's dead :o

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Lady sent me to war! :D
« on: July 30, 2016, 03:04:41 am »
After fulfilling a couple of monster hunts my next mission is the first of its kind I am going to experience. Begone, elves!
(If you're wondering about the Exceptional sheep wool shirt, I got it from my neighbouring fortress, co-managed by I, the novice, and BenLubar's DF-AI. Yipe, stop building our barracks underground!)

Of interesting note is that the Lady immediately gave me directions to the place instead of me having to ask for them.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What Weapon Do You Usually Use?
« on: July 30, 2016, 02:58:31 am »
I tested 2 groups of humans multiple times in the Object Testing Arena.
1 team brandished short swords, the other with battle axes; weapons manufacturable by dwarves.

The battle outcomes I got were 50-50.

However, swords have the advantage of being more than twice lighter than axes, allowing you to carry more of other useful stuff. So, then, that's what I chose.

Aha, but I have another idea!

I notice when I go into areas with low visibility (such that you can only see, say, 3 tiles ahead of you) the ground scrolls past me very quickly, and the time it takes to load the next map square also quickens.

So is it possible, then, to mod a toggle between normal vision and short-vision?

I was blinded in a fight before, too

(Moved topic from Adventure Mode discussion, when I was still an Escaped Lunatic, bumped for visibility.)

All of them are invertebrates, and in the game, they don't need to sleep and never get 'drowsy'.

I'm fascinated to learn that :o

I play the Peregrine Falcon Man; tricky terrain means nothing to me as I fly over them at 4.4 speed (or 6.3 if I'm in a short rush)

Now, if only fast travel would allow me to adjust speed, and allow movement through mountains and over water...

...without needing to look through every one of them individually...
How do I pick out that one dwarf with the best armorsmith skill among the 98 dwarves living at my fort?

Oh, I got it going now, guys, I had to disable autolabor temporarily.
(Also enabled 'do task now!', but not sure if that actually affects anything)

DF Gameplay Questions / 'melt metal object' job keeps disappearing :(
« on: July 28, 2016, 07:57:30 am »
I acquired, from a dwarven caravan, a few steel battle axes I want to melt because the area I embarked in apparently doesn't have any iron ores... (checked out with DFHack's reveal)

Read the wiki,

then designated those axes - in a bin in a weapon stockpile - for melting, added the 'melt metal object' job to the smelter, then unpaused. I checked the job list (j) every several seconds.

Normally a dwarf would come to do the job I assigned, but this melting job just disappears off the list and off the smelter.

What to do? Should I try disabling autolabor? Does it matter if the weapons have brackets on them, i.e. (steel battle axe)?

I got to advanced-generate a (pocket) world where humans and elves were at constant war against each other because the humans didn't like the elves eating sapient beings.

Every time one ends, another would start soon after, give or take a year, as seen in legends viewer. The list was worth three screen heights, spanning 2000 years!

First word that came to my mind: 'Strangereal', the world of the Ace Combat series where they've had more than 3 or 4 world wars as I understand it.

Sniper Blowguns

Oohoo... I wanna check that out! I am just now dabbling in the testing arena.

...Hey, does anyone know the MAXVELOCITY and SHOOTFORCE of throwing? Something about that should be written (or linked to) on the wiki... pls

Confirm my understanding for me, does 1 Urist = 1 kilogram?

Edit: Found this old thread from 2014, not sure if still true this far in the future

Nothing on the wiki has yet caught my eye as to how different materials would affect crossbows.
Now I just learnt you can make bone and wooden crossbows...

How do they fair against metal ones?
