Turns out the precursors I spotted have at least two other ship classes I hadn't encountered. Based on the fact that the listening post I set up spotted one of them (which has a 380.16m km sensor range and explains a lot about how they could hit me from outside my sensor range) and also identified one of the wrecks as that same class. Still think the 71 shot volleys came from a PDC though but it could be that the new ship (same tonnage as last two known types) is just a missile platform with a big sensor and fire control.

Either way I will claim this system as my own.

Shipboard terraformers are handy especially given the land based version requires a larger ship to move anyway.

Thought the precursors still had something. Contact detected TCS 1 quantity 71 every 5 seconds. My god thats alot of AMMs. Possibly a PDC or at least I hope it is (So I can sit back and lob nukes at it). Also found some ground units. This system is a heavily defended outpost clearly.

So much for losing less tonnage... Well I had to find out one way or another.

Never got to fire any missiles, All down to the lasers on the destroyers. The cruisers which had missiles got knocked out (but not killed) about 24 hours before the final fight and well outside range of all my missiles never mind the short range ones the cruisers had.

Should be some juicy stuff in their wreckage though, and there are three other wrecks, one is 27750t on its own.

Still I did lose a couple of commanders, and may yet lose more ships depending on if anything else is out there and can kill us. And learnt valuable experience for myself. First battle and I didn't lose, although the design flaw in the cruisers really hurt.

Well I took 13 destroyers and 4 cruisers to fight three of theirs, lost 4 destroyers iirc, didn't have the ROF for PD which would have helped.

I think its over, lots of damaged ships and a few wrecked destroyers but the three enemy ships I found (and seemed to have run out of ammo completely) are wrecked themselves, 9250t 4.5km/s speed, didn't have sensors that should have seen my ships from outside my range though, still probably something still out there.

All four cruisers will need major repairs, about half the remaining destroyers need major repairs too. But the actual losses? Ton for Ton my fleet came out on top, with less than 20000t wrecked to their 27750t. No lifeboats from their ships, thats precursors correct?

Oh and their racial image? Daleks... Typical.

42m km range for R100, yeah not the greatest but I am making new ones, not that it will help these 17 ships that I sent out, one of them has a problem, 4 problems to be precise, they got through the armour in 4 sections then landed a fifth missile through a breach.

Okay I guess I got close enough to their resupply point, 32 minutes of 25 second intervals before I decided I wanted to do other things today but get shot with missiles. I don't think they normally could fire that long (6 was the record) but my go those AMMs, 55 volleys with 12 missiles (10 on last volley) 658 missiles... I was not ready it seems. Ah well useful knowledge was gained (bring 5s guns and lots of them, bring a bigger sensor, make a missile of similar (theoretical) range to their ASMs and split the fuel tanks into smaller versions upto the same capacity) and next time they will hopefully die.
I have a size 50 sensor (for static bases) with 872m km range vs 5000t, I could probably stick that on a tiny ship and see what i'm dealing with. Okay its not going to be able to hide but I have more crewmen where they came from.

Okay, so they reloaded their bloody missile launchers, 4.5 minutes of missile fire every 5 seconds? more of those damn AMMs. Still no sign of their actual forces...

Wouldn't be very exciting, I have spent about 4 ingame days since the last missile volley before something else happened. Think its more, short range, missiles every 25 seconds but still haven't got any contacts.

I suppose I will grab a few images, current armour strength of the cruisers and the map of where my ships are and where I think they are. But I have literally fought across the system, no idea what kind of range their missiles have or even if they are mobile ships i'm fighting, only seen missiles, size 5 ASMs and size 1 AMMs, size 5s moved at about 18000m/s and the AMMs moved at 24000m/s.

They are meant for swarming a target's defences. They do hit for 4 damage though.
The enemy ran out of AMMs, all four cruisers have moderate to heavy armour damage (down to 2 layers at thinnest, good thing I had 6 layers) But if their 12 AMM volleys did that well, 40 size 2s should get through theirs in return, though its every 15 seconds. Given I ran out of guns to fire I'm hoping they will too.

First real fight, Wish I had brought more ships and escorts with faster firing weapons, the hostiles (precursors I think, different playthrough still had something hostile spawn next door, three wrecks one is over 25000t) are lobbing their AMMs from outside sensor range and they are actually hitting one of my cruisers, their ASMs failed to hit without being shot down. 12 missiles every 5 seconds does get through my final defensive fire, my ASMs cannot be used to try and shoot some down because they cannot see the missiles. Shouldn't be too long before I see the foe I reckon though, and with them wasting their AMMs... Pity I didn't bring anything bigger than a size 2 ASM.

Seeing as its technically "first day of the working week" that causes people to be unhappy on Monday I would say yes.

Occasionally been hearing load engine roaring and wondered what it was. Unless a random biker gang arrived and rolled around a couple of times its the local speedway about 4 miles away with their monster trucks and firework display. If its the latter then i'm glad I have good windows and don't live closer.

JP is on the other side of the system. Pretty sure they don't know about the survey ship, its not a wreck after all, and its near the JP, they didn't intercept it as it skirted the outer edge nor did they react when it went near the star.

Pretty certain they are precursors. Didn't find a colony on any of the bodies with atmosphere (at the cost of another 4300t survey ship) and they are sitting around a planet and guarding it.

I guess the only way to know for sure is to blast them to pieces. They are 100% not friendly.
Well if they are precursors then I have plenty of time to prepare, need to rescue the last survey ship but that just needs a jump tender, not going to build a jump gate without knowing for sure that I can melt those xenos.

Urk... First true contact with an alien race...

Two types of contact, 7 contacts going 6486m/s. 8 strength 14 nuclear detonations detected. 3 hit the survey ship that found them, it was more than enough.

And guess how close they are to Sol... Might end up abandoning this start, 4 years in and very fast hostiles are literally 1 jump away. Hope the diplo team can find out more (and get them to stop shooting us).

Edit: So the diplo team says communication is impossible. Anyone got any advice? Alien contacts were 1200 thermal sig with two active sensors, an R79 sensor with 174m km range and an R20 with I think 35m km range. The missiles were described as Ilithid ASM. No idea how fast the missiles were, think it was point blank when they fired, not that a civilian ship has anything beyond 1/1 sensors anyway.

Precursors perhaps? Doubt an NPR would be that powerful so early, Pretty sure those were large ships with that kind of heat signature.

Or Skaven. Any ruined city you find is probably Skaven. Random signs of life? Skaven. No signs of life? Skaven. Smells like fish? Deep Ones.
