An interesting compilation of events that show just how far in the past do Trump's ties with Russia go.

I remain somewhat suspicious of long-term ties to Russia, when he has apparently been trying for years to get approval for a hotel in downtown Moscow and has failed utterly at this project.  It just seems if he had such a huge amount of influence that shit would have been greenlighted long ago.

What would be the effect of making a colossus or FB out of slade?  A web-slinging shelled monster with no body parts that causes syndromes would be pretty awful.

Has anyone ever encountered the legendary undead giant sperm whale or something worse?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Mandating the same thing over and over again
« on: February 16, 2017, 12:27:25 am »
I never seem to have anything awful mandated.  I always have some mayor or baron or something who just mandates building 2 floodgates or a large gem or forbids exporting swords or something (like I'd ever export those).  And then they just do that over and over most of the time.  It's pretty simple just to dump a task into the job manager queue, put it on top priority, and forget about it.

If I had one who did something insane like forbidding the export of spiked wooden balls that guy would take a magma bath, at least if I was still in the phase of turning useless wood into more than its weight in gold.

Which is why it peaves me... I am the player but while I am controlling the character... they are still a character in that narrative. Anything I personally do outside the game or in the menus or anything like that isn't something they do (with few notable exceptions)

I doubt I'd have ever even been able to get started, much less reach my level of excellence abject mediocrity at DF without reading an entire book on it first (Getting Started With Dwarf Fortress).

For the same reason that you can't break down your elderly neighbor's door when they die and help yourself to their stuff.
Ah, so it's so that the family of the deceased have a chance to profit by selling the organs, got it. :P

The deceased and their relatives may have strong objections to the use of organs at all, viewing it as actually costing the donor some kind of ritual purity, or the resurrection of the body, or something else.  However, I am pretty sure the vast majority of religious beliefs about organ donation support it as an act of charity and generosity.

Simply because a belief isn't rational, though, doesn't mean we can override the will of the persons concerned.

As all this was going on, a second titan appeared! Mel, a hill titan best described as a four-horned giant buzzard that spit boiling extract.

You sound really unlucky.  Any time I have titans that show up, they're something like a giant six-legged hamster that spits extract that does nothing.  And then we just kill and eat it.

I miss when /pol/ was full of genuine fringe loonies and not just neocons plus edge plus butthurt.

You are not alone.

Well I guess it's good for tourism in Mexico, when the US born children come to visit their deported parents often, and spend dollars in Mexico.

EDIT: Never thought I'd live in a world where saying "Hey man, how are your deported parents doing?" would be a normal thing.

Makes me wonder though. What's gonna happen to the US born kids of the 11 million immigrants when both their parents are deported? That's gonna cost 100s of billions of tax dollars to provide child support, foster homes etc.

More technically: US could get in international trouble for that. They did sign the treaty for the rights of the child, which includes the right not to be separated from it's parents.

Heil Freedom.

The NYT critisizes Trump's plan to put the Muslim Brotherhood on the list of terrorist organistations.
His own advisors are debating with him over the matter, and intelligence agencies fear it will endanger the safety of the US.

Hate to say this, but it kind of is a terrorist organization.

Did you set hell on fire, too?

I tried to do that, but it was declared redundant.

Also, my ban was overturned on appeal.

Then I set hell on fire again.

Reminds me a LOT of King Nero.

Or Nitocris, the last pharaoh of the Sixth Dynasty, famous for killing the murderers of her brother by inviting them all to a banquet in a large hall, engineered so that it could be sealed and flooded with the waters of the Nile with them in it.

That's rather dorfy too.

can dwarves claim ownership of coffins like they do with beds?

I don't think the one using it can claim it, for obvious reasons, but I've certainly seen people end up buried in tombs in my nobles' suites if I made it a tomb but didn't assign it to anyone.  So dwarves can and will certainly bury dwarves in unclaimed coffins.  This might have been under the influence of an autolabor or auto-something in dfhack.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How to get surface candy?
« on: February 09, 2017, 01:30:27 am »
This thread from 2013 suggests some worldgen parameters that affect the generation of candy.  I haven't actually tried the methods suggested in it because I'd like to understand worldgen more than I do (barely at all).

I'm not sure if you can get it to the surface, but you can apparently do worldgen to get absurdly tall spires of mostly safely mineable candy.

Hmm. Any idea how to make death more instant? I suppose if the interaction combined "transform into this faked creature" with a separate syndrome that has the effect "impair function" effect, you could tell it to cripple the brain (if said creature is given a brain) to ensure it dies no matter what.

Instead of killing them, why not just do something that leaves them paralyzed, so they still have desires and preferences and such, but can't actually act on them, as if they'd seen Ghatanathoa?  It would be utterly monstrous.  All they could do is slowly go insane.

There's nothing conspiratorial about it. There is no other possible motive but the corruption of voting machines, not that we should use those at all anyway.

I wouldn't say there's nothing conspiratorial about it, but it has more to do with run of the mill corruption, incompetence, and the universal practice of always picking the lowball bidder even when they provide an absolutely defective product.

However, the glaring vulnerabilities are an open invitation to engage in villainy for the sort of people who are already inclined to that sort of thing.
