Why are people worried that election machines can be hacked? That has never happened.

Yes it has.  There have even been convictions.

http://www.kentucky.com/news/state/kentucky/article44027145.html

I'll note this wasn't even enough to qualify as hacking.  It was crude trickery, simply lying to voters about the user interface in such a way that they'd think they cast a vote when they hadn't.  Actually hacking the machines, though, is barely more difficult.

And there is exhaustive evidence that hacking voting machines is trivial, especially in the work done by Prof. Andrew Appel of Princeton, who has both testified before the House about it and demonstrated it, as well as produced extensive reports on the vulnerabilities of these machines.

Also, if it had been done, we wouldn't know about it, because the vast majority of voting machines are so-called Direct Recording Electronic or DRE machines, which keep no independent audit trail that can be used to assure the count was accurate.  You just have to accept whatever the machine says.

The Nordstrom company said the decision was made based on business factors (sales slump) and not politics. Nordstrom is what's called a "Fast Fashion" outlet - they change their line up rapidly, so it's natural that designer brands are a revolving door. Trump overstep conflict of interest but he also fails to understand the fashion industry. Probably not a surprise that Ivanka Trump sales are dropping.

It's also pretty openly corrupt to exploit the office of President so brazenly for profit.  It's the kind of thing you expect from a kleptocratic failed state.

Are you talking about Nordstrom exploiting it or Trump? Anyhow, regardless of the reason why they did it, the timing certainly looks like an attack at the WH policies, and naturally, Trump took it extremely personally and thought it was an attack at him and his family.

How on Earth could a department store exploit the Presidency when it isn't President?  That makes no sense.  Of course I meant Trump.

That happens when you buy them. These were individual people's cards. They just happened to steal them from about 1000 traffic stops. It wasn't all at once.

What you quoted didn't say that, though.

Quote
"[L]aw enforcement seized approximately 1,000 cards from a suspected drug trafficker. With this technology they were able to identify more than $48,000 in funds that were loaded onto the cards," said the release.

It said they seized 1,000 cards from one specific guy.  Sounds pretty sketch to me.

That went on for a short while before he lost interest and wandered off into his house to do whatever it is drunks do at 10:00 in the morning.

That would be drinking, in all likelihood.

This is why I'm glad that my country, unlike the Decadent West™, has a law strictly prohibiting selling alcohol past 23:00. After its introduction, the amount of drunks roaming at night has been drastically reduced!

Real drunks would have already purchased a spare handle of something to hold them over during those closed liquor store hours so as not to interrupt their three day benders.

636
So ... each card had about $48 stolen from it. Considering that a typical one-use Visa gift card is like $50, it seems much more likely that they just stole 1000 regular $50 gift cards rather than siezed drug profits.

Aren't those gift cards usually not valid until they've been activated at the register?

I'm not convinced Congress would not allow Trump to simply appoint his cousin to a position at this point.

I'm pretty sure they'd okay it if he appointed a horse as consul.

On the way to work my car suddenly started violently shaking and barely accelerating. This is the third time this has happened, and the previous two times we took it back to the dealership so that they could "fix" it. I do not understand why it continues to happen, as we have had this car barely a month.

Sounds like a lemon.

And it wouldn't "gut separation of powers", it is a separation of power, much like the President being unable to just declare Cousin Bubba the Secretary of State without review.

Allowing some outside entity to dictate its parliamentary procedures is essentially stripping them of something that is and always has been inherent to the very nature of what a legislature under the U.S. Constitution is.

640
Honestly, the rules committee should probably be maintained by a bunch of judges or something instead of the Congressthralls.

This would pretty thoroughly gut separation of powers.

I mean at that point why even have a Congress?

That's a very good question with the most worthless Congress, perhaps, in all of American history.

Anyone want to defend the DeVos appointment? Anyone want to argue that, somehow, Trump isn't outright nepotistic?

Or that McCain has any dignity left at all?

It's a ludicrous insult, yet another act in this clown show.  Frankly putting Steve Bannon on the National Security Council was an even bigger joke.

I'm sure the clown car isn't empty yet, though.

Education seems like something that is too complex and has too many parts to do an amendment on.

Gerrymandering is something that could be done, though I don't know if any other countries have anything like that in their constitutions.

Although it would have to be VERY CAREFULLY worded so that it doesn't accidentially give one party a leg up over the other.

This is America.  It would be very carefully worded to do just that.  Intentionally.

Around here, barbers and hairdressers are trained professionals just like plumbers or electricians. They always ask exactly what you want before they even start cutting, and instead of cliché small talk they talk about the work they're doing and ask how you like it. You can even bring a few photos of a model if you want something very specific done.

I've never seen someone who cuts their own hair who doesn't look like someone who cuts their own hair.  I suppose if you want to look that way good for you.

Meanwhile, Betsy DeVos was confirmed after a Pence tiebreaker vote.

Great.  A pyramid scam operator for one of the most notorious swindles in history.

Will Putin ever stop poisoning people who criticize him

Luckily for him he has a useful idiot in the White House.
