Life Advice / Design software?
« on: September 02, 2021, 04:10:29 pm »
I’ve started a new job which involves designing furniture which is then built in wood by guys in a workshop. I’m trying to optimise the process and produce cutting lists for them. Currently we use Autocad Lt, which has ‘dynamic blocks’ so I can stretch the design and auto edits the parts.
BUT I’m sure there must be an easier program for the task, and I wondered if anyone has done anything similar and had any recommendations?

I can use Blender to a certain degree but that doesn’t give me the text, and I could rig up a text based cutting list in Excel, but it doesn’t include the visual. There’s gotta be some other software designed for this very purpose, right?

Why 'Slade'?

Possibly beause it's 'heavy rock'? (the Band of Noddy Holder)

or maybe demons are incarserated in their Slade Prison, somewhat like Norman Stanley Fletcher of the sitcom Porrige?

Does anyone know the actual origin of the word? :-)

That's cool, I imagine it would then be carefully inscribed with 'here be dragons' and 'filthy goblin tribes', although knowing the dwarfs it would probably be 'promising gold seams', 'potential threats to tetrahedrite mines' and 'Warning: Carp'. :-)

Very kind of you to say! I can only put it down to finding a really nice pen.

Several years ago I put together a 'dwarf randomiser', an html page with a button which randomly generated an image of a dwarf with a name and a little back-story. The images were deplorably flat vectors, but I'm thinking I could use hand drawn elements like the above, although I baulk at the amount of work it would take to draw/scan/tidy/colour/code!!

I'll try to do some more drawings and see where it leads. Any requests? :-)

On a related note, I brought one male and three female turkeys on an embark, then left them in a room with a few forbidden nest boxes and thought I’d sort them out once I’d got the Fortress sorted out properly.
Several years later I found that over population in a 7x7 room lead to several dead turkeys and ones with bits missing and blood everywhere. I guess poultry can have tantrum spirals too!

When a dwarf is diagnosed, the doctor will look over the list of medicines available, and will see if its appropriate for the wound. If yes, they will either spatter it onto the appropriate body part, or feed it to the patient.
Ideally with a liberal degree of error for the inexperienced doctor, who will inject savlon or rub donated blood into the skin.

If medicines are added to the game I would have to amend all medicines to be called ‘beer’ so that every dwarfen cure is “rub some beer on it!”
