Hello,

always was kind of a small dream of me to have a cool dwarf fortress visuals. now i know there are stonesense and armok vision, but somehow they feel kinda wonky for me. don't know.

now recently i started learning unity and c#, and now i would like to try out building my own visualizier for dwarf fortress in unity.

where do i start, really? i think that i could use this DFHack plugin "RemoteFortressReader". apparently it can give me all the needed information from dwarf fortress at runtime, but other than that i really don't know where to start.

So do i need to write a script in unity that accesses the information that RemoteFortressReader gives me? And if so, besides unity, what is the common way of doing such a thing? Or do i have to do something more complicated?

greetings

rob

Hi folks.
So i was/am suffering from this crash, since like version 0.40 or something, and i was wondering what the status is at the moment. Is it being investigated?

i'll shortly explain what happens.

sometimes when i go to a unit and press "v" to view, or "f" to follow, the game crashes to desktop. this does not happen without DFhack. It may be, that it only happens after i zoomed from the unit view, but i am not sure.

At first i thought it was TWBT causing it, cause there are people saying in forums that it causes crashes, but it also happens with standard or 2D print mode.

what i have also noticed:

it doesn't seem to happen when i am playing a new fort, and it always seems to be happening the first time, after i have loaded a savegame. but i am not 100% sure of this. I think after it crashed the first time, it also happens on new forts. But it could also be that it happens after a long time in game, and coincedentally happens at a time when you'll be thinking about saving.
also, i only had the game crashing on pressing "v" when TWBT activated, ond crashing on "f" without it. but that may be coincedence, since i almost always played with TWBT. It just occured to me that way, because it never crashed on "f" when i had TWBT on. and that was most of the time.

Also noteworthy maybe:
About a year ago, i upgraded my graphics card And just recently, i upgraded motherboard, RAM and CPU. Always played on Win 7 64 bit.

I mean i get it. Optimization when the game is finished. But will the game ever be finished? What if the big financial crash comes and the world economy breaks down? It's only a question of time, ask any expert on the field. Or what if WW3 breaks out?

It just sucks, when you already can sustain a big Fort, but when you are finally able to do bigger or rather more interesting things in the game, your framerate plummets to rather unplayable rates.

DF Suggestions / Changing the fortress name after embark
« on: June 09, 2017, 05:48:34 pm »
It just would make sense. Cities and sites get named after certain geographical circumstances or special events that took place etc...
But you don't really know how the embark will turn out, or what will happen with your fortress.

DF Gameplay Questions / What is happening here?

Hi. So every once in a while one of my military guys apparently dies from 'collision', while they are at the central stairway. Are they falling over the stairs?

DF Suggestions / Jobs requiring multiple dwarfs
« on: May 20, 2017, 01:16:40 am »
Hello. I think it would be cool if there were some jobs that require more than just one dwarf. since dwarf fortress' gameplay has such a strong aspect of managing things, it would be a nice, easy increase of complexity in the gameplay.

what do you guys think?

sorry if english is not perfect, i'ts not my first language
