DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Whats up with my crossbow dorfs?
« on: March 05, 2018, 04:45:24 pm »
I might suggest carving out an arena and pitting the demigod against SMBs and MBs. If anything, maybe you'll luck out and your engravers will carve engrave about how awesome he was in life (and death).

SMBs and MBs? Whats that?

On the bright side, you now have an immortal punching bag and as far as i know your dwarves will still get exp from shooting at him.

Haha now thats true. My crossbows got around 10 skillpoints in marksdwarf, but i have to increase my bone/wood bolt production drasticaly.

Disarming the gobbos in their cage didnt work for me. I marked their cages for dump, than manualy unselected the  cage for dump, but they kept their weapons somehow.

A demi-god goblin that seems to have developed immunity to bolt fire.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Whats up with my crossbow dorfs?
« on: March 05, 2018, 07:22:02 am »
So I've trapped some goblins and trolls, and used them as target practice for my crossbow dwarfs. I've built a nice large room with walls carved as fortifications so dwarfs can practice their shooting skills on living breathing gobbos (trolls not included because they climbed their way out of the shooting chamber and spread some fun in my fort). But I seem to have a little problem now... That one goblin that I put there simply cant die. He hasn't taken a single bolt wound. I have pages and pages of his combat log and he seems to be blocking every single incoming shot. Am talking here about a year worth of shooting at him. I've literally shot all my practice ammo at him. Is that a bug, or maybe the problem is that am using wooden bolts (was gonna bludgeon him to death)? Although I switched to bone bolts, and its the same thing - gobbo guy blocks all incoming projectiles. Problem is, gobbo is scaring all my dwellers in fort because he counts as an invader and I cant kill him with my melee dwarfs because they are stuck on a artifact recovery mission (i believe they are MIA).

Heck, even if i had melee dwarves to finish him off, i would be too damn scared to send any to fight this demi-god goblin. Wtf is going on? Is that a bug? I need answers ! :D

So i might just try and do a were fort. It might have some benefits since i wont have to worry about food industry, i can concentrate on other stuff. Man this game never ceases to amaze me :)

But they turn so often into werebeasts... It seems kinda more fun to turn this into a fort with only werehyena's inside that eat the unsuspecting migrants... maybe build a special chamber where the migrants will live with loads of food and drink and than fool moon comes and they get rekt. Like a farm for my other dwarfs.  The survivors get to live with other werehynenas.

I've read that werebeasts dont need food, does that count when they are in dwarf form aswell?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: "Synthwave" fort!
« on: November 15, 2017, 07:46:14 pm »
An explanation as to what "synthwave" is and why cyan, magenta, and purple are associated with it would be useful for the rest of us - to me, the only thing significant about those colors is that they are used in CGA palette #1.

Synthwave is a music genre. Example song which I fully acknowledge as a Splatoon remix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5PWQg_iJqw

Dunno why it's associated with those colors though.

Because of tripping and that

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Were-whaaat?

Okey so something happened in my fort that i never had before. Anyways, I've started fairly good, established nice food income, had such a nice fort layout like a mountain hall carved into the cliffs overlooking the plains to the west where i groomed my cattle and stuff... Than suddenly, so early in the game, a freaking were-mammoth thing appeared  out of nowhere. It was so early i didn't even build my gates! I organised my 20 dwarfs to fight the beast with all weapons available (that would be 2 bronze axes). They jumped on the creature and started biting and chewing it, but body parts of my dwarves flew all over the fort (literally i found a torso on top of an unreachable chicken coop). 2 dwarfs survived the carnage before the beast bled out somewhere inside my fort. It turned back into its dwarf form, but the body never decayed, its corpse just stood there all flashing blue. So the remaining two dorfs build a wall around its corpse (heck this is the first time i've encountered a werebeast i dunno if they come back to life or smthing since its body didn't decay). And the two of them started building an epic memorial site for their fallen comrades. In the meantime a lot of migrants came and then i remembered - oh i should build a gate really.
But it took so much time for them to finish the gate and just before i linked the gate to the lever -- a night creature showed up. Again, no gate. It was a werehyena this time. Organised my dorfs, went to fight it with bare fists and bare teeth... meh killed it relatively easy. Left a few dwarves dead, and a few bleeding to death (since i sold all my medical supplies in preparation for the jurney... really needed that fisherdwarf). And i finally finished the gate! NOW i was safe finally, no more night beasts in my fort now when i have some sort of protection, oh no more of that yeah.

The merchants finally came to visit us. Finally i can buy some steel axes and shields so i can fight off these horrible beasts. As the dorfs were carrying their stuff to sell them i accidentally notice a HUGE splatter of blood just where the merchants were suppose to be. Yeah.. It turns out it was full moon, and my dwarves got infected! 5 of them infected to be precise... They wiped out my fort in like a milisecond...they even killed the children! Meh, screw children, they killed my puppy colony! And than they just turned back into dwarf form...

And now what? Has anyone tried to actually play with a werefort? And I have a new migrant wave coming... They'll love the smell since the entire fort is a damn miasma cloud atm, but thats the least of their problems.

DF General Discussion / Can't run LNP :/
« on: June 25, 2017, 06:26:27 am »
Hi, i need some help with LNP... I was using it perfectly fine on my laptop, but when i switched to my PC it just wont start...

I click on the PyLNP.exe and nothing happens... literally nothing, like i haven't even clicked it. I can still run dwarf fortress from the same .rar and i can run all of the utilities manually. Altho i had to install c++ redistributable for visual studio 2015 in order to run therapist, because i had a ,,missing .dll'' error...

But no errors pop up when i try to run LNP.

Any suggestions?

ty!

EDIT: I've tried redownloading the files, and i use win10 (a relatively fresh install)

DF Suggestions / Expeditions outside fort
« on: June 24, 2017, 06:45:12 pm »
Hello, I am sorry if this topic was discussed before, I am still new to this forum.

But, i would like to say something that came into my mind. I always imagined the idea of being able to go outside the boundaries of your fort, but i understand that is quite hard to accomplish. But, what if we could send dwarves on expeditions or missions outside our boundaries in a kind of ,,off-screen'' mode. Lets say, you can send 20 fully armed dwarves on a mission to kill some monster, or to destroy the goblin fort, they than leave your boundaries and after a few months or a year you get news of what happened on the mission. So maybe you can read a log of what they were doing, where they were going, what they encountered and maybe if they return home they bring some nice loot or whatever their mission was.

I often have some 30 veteran dwarves just sitting around, patroling base, training... and even when the siege comes, my traps do all the dirty work for defense. I would just like to see a system where we can do more with our squads, maybe even send them to attack another fort, or join an invading army, or just do some exploring. We couldn't see all the action, but atleast we could read about what happened!

What are your toughts about this? Cheers
