I have, and still do to a degree, share your worry. But thinking of the new designer as the foundation rather than the end all, makes me feel better.
For example, it would be pretty easy to implement a "tile painting" designer that then automatically convert it to the new design type.
In short, making it newbie friendly is a possibility. So I look forward to see where this will go.
Haxus is also implementing a public design library in-game, so we can share designs easier without losing the architect name. I think this will lead to more people sharing their designs, at least I will.

I'll just leave this here, for those of you interested.
Here: hazeron.com/wiki/Spacecraft_Update
The page is very short at present, but I will hopefully be writing more on it soon. The page has links to all the current update forum threads so you guys don't have to dig through the forum.
For those of you that wanna try it, you can just download the launcher. Trying the new designer doesn't require a subscription and it runs offline.
The designer is still in the alpha stage, so there are plenty of features missing, not to mention that the designs can't actually be used in the game yet. Just be sure to read some of all the update threads to get a general idea about how to get started, since there has not been written any tutorials yet.

« on: September 28, 2016, 12:28:05 am »I thought you said haxus fixed limbo. :V"Limbo" has been fixed. The current "limbo" is not the same kind of "limbo", it is just server crashes. The servers don't auto reboot so that Haxus can check what happened and fix it.
See: hazeron.com/wiki/Limbo
I like to think of it more like "trapped in a space-time anomaly", since the server is paused in the time of the crash. "Limbo" means that you are lost or nowhere at all, which is not really the case anymore.

The procreation feature is pretty cool, can't say I have seen anything like it in a game outside of The Sims. But talking about it always makes me a little shy. ^^;

« on: September 21, 2016, 04:32:09 pm »So... how's the lag these days, folks? As stated previously, the lag is pretty much gone. Movement and mouse-look is not AAA level smooth, but it is acceptable. Some say spacecraft movement is laggy, but I don't see it. Maybe I have been playing for too long to really feel it.
I'll suggest you hear what the others say on the matter too, but general opinion seem to be that it is much better.

« on: September 21, 2016, 04:11:47 pm »It might be worth re-testing to see if "dark matter" really does destroy ships that fly into unexplored systems without a player online on them. I say re-testing because back when Starborn Dominion was a thing, I launched a tl2 colony ship without ftl drives, and went for several days before I stopped and colonized somewhere. Iirc I made sure there were only ad many crew as stations, and then I killed the helmsman and put the ship on maximum acceleration.Dark matter has not changed, it destroys any spacecraft that attempts to leave a solar system without an officer or online avatar on board. But the crew attemts to stop the ship from leaving a solar system when there is neither on board. So it is only possible if you accelerate a spacecraft to light-speed and log out right before hitting the boundary. Interstellar travel is not normally recommend without an officer though, and doing so removes the risk.
There were some bugs, the ship would sometimes get turned in a different direction upon entering a system, or might reset the helm controls and stop the ship, but they were mostly just annoyances and weren't happening in every transition.
Mostly the threat of dark matter has gone away since limbo was fixed, since that was the main cause of being "logged out" while traveling without an officer. You really have to be creative to cause a dark matter collision now.

« on: September 21, 2016, 09:01:57 am »We've all seen that before, and re-reading it doesn't magically make Haxus's posts there accurate or truthful. And bringing the topic up again and again, doesn't magically change the fact that it happened 5 years ago. That is two universes ago, and progress doesn't transfer over to the present univers. So why should the drama?
To be clear, I'm going from memory, which isn't always perfect, but I've tried to avoid saying anything I was uncertain about.I wouldn't be surprised if no one knows the full story anymore. I still don't understand why anyone still cares about it.
I didn't know about Hazeron at the time this happened. So maybe I am just fed up with hearing the complaints about something that has nothing to do with how the game is now.
I am sure Haxus and Ainbheartach learned their lesson in how to moderate. Ainbheartach isn't even around anymore.

« on: September 21, 2016, 05:34:56 am »Haxus did comment on the matter early last year.Haxus is the only moderator now. But yeah, bad moderators can be found in any game/community, not to mention that everyone can have a bad day. I don't know how that event went down, but I have heard about it a number of times.I think the main issue is that Haxus is the bad GM. At the time he was complicit, a year later he said it was the players fault for "provoking" ainb into abusing his position
See: http://hazeron.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7037&start=50#p79757
(Read the whole thread if you want the full context, but that page is good enough for for just Haxus's answer.)
As he said there, it was a long time ago (5 years now), so lets just let it go.

« on: September 20, 2016, 04:37:17 pm »I updated the dark matter wiki page a little for you, hope it makes sense. Also it won't go without you on it either, though there's no problem flying to systems you've already explored. What do you mean "it won't go without you on it either"? I've never visited the system I'm headed to, left my avatar on the ship and went out to lunch and do other things, now I'm on the system, and decelerating.
P.S. This is an intentional design decision, not a bug.
But I didn't know the ship would stop. I wonder if demiavatars can deadhead around while 'logged off'?
Foumd here: hazeron.com/wiki/Dark_Matter
Commonly people just set a long explanation mission and leave their avatar logged in over night. Then check the findings the next day.
As for deadheading travel time, I did some math on that a while back.

« on: September 20, 2016, 01:26:36 pm »I mean I was never much of a fighter in Hazeron to begin with. The game was too clunky/laggy and I preferred the pseudo-citybuilding and generally chill nature of designing ships and exploring space. The lag has been pretty much removed, still a little jittery when it comes to mouse-look, but it is survivable.
City building and spacecraft designing works fine, if you are into that kind of thing you will likely enjoy it.
But as other have said, there are a lack of players and player interaction. Not necessarily a reason to disregard the game, but you should be aware of it going in.

« on: September 20, 2016, 07:22:34 am »Deantwo, you're a Bay12er? Huh..For a total of two days and a little under 6 hours.
So, guess I am still new. A bit sad that the Bay12 SpaceStation13 server isn't the same forum, since I have been playing there lately.
I've been using your HazeronAdviser and it's saving me so much time.Glad it is being of use to you. ^^
I really need to get back to work on that. >_<
I've been having a lot of fun, and still getting the hang. Turns out I wasn't as good or as bright as I believed. Got at TL5 finally, and decided to go exploring for the first time..It's actually the first time I go out and find/contact someone. Weird enough, there's nothing on the 7m range scanners, nothing on the Tactical Scan..when suddenly, a pirate pops in telling me to stand down. I barely outrun him and make it back to the capitol and already planned my invasion.Awesome story. Curious as to who you encountered, but the likelihood of them attacking you unprovoked is slim.
First inhabited planet I find is a pirate planet, probably an abandoned player city that revolted. I have no idea how I survived on an unarmed/unarmored TL2 scanner ship.
Next, I go after some emissions a few jumps away from my capital..and much to my disappointment, it belongs to a huge top-5 TL32 empire, right fokin' there. It might be just an outpost, or a personal place for a player, or even a test zone..but..meh. Should've went Frontier. Here's hoping they're friendly.
Now I'm headed for close emissions on another direction, and it looks like it has 5 settled systems on the same sector. Again, it's nice to see the difference when you're a complete noob vs. when have some idea of what you're doing: took me ages to find that first pirate planet through wormholes, but now I'm navigating around much better.
Wonder if the other emissions are my sectors, I did notice that new empires are slowly starting to popup in my end of the cluster. Not sure who you are in-game though.

« on: September 20, 2016, 05:29:57 am »Only singleplayer if you play it alone like that, but the "make your own fun" thing doesn't suit everyone, even I can get bored with it.Most MMO I have seen have a subscription of $15 or more, so in comparison Hazeron is actually cheaper than the average.$10 a month for a mostly singleplayer game where the dev's best friend will delete your fleets if you impinge on his ego. Interesting proposition.
Haxus is the only moderator now. But yeah, bad moderators can be found in any game/community, not to mention that everyone can have a bad day. I don't know how that event went down, but I have heard about it a number of times.
Neither of those two points has anything to do with the price point though, but rather your personal opinion of the game's worth.
Hazeron's fun. It's just not fun for a long period of time in a solo empire.Yeah, most of my time is spend visiting new empires that start in the eastern cluster, and I like to help new players.
The game could use some more stuff to do, either content or player activity.

« on: September 20, 2016, 12:45:49 am »I've kind of burned out after reaching TL7 - which is where you get Teleporters, and it's the end of most of the 'new tech'. I think the next actual thing is TL27 for warpdrives, barring Magmium and Vulcium, which just are better versions of metal.I know the feeling, had the same thing happen to me the first time I reached TL7 too.
But you are incorrect with your warp-drive TL, it is possible to create warp-drives at TL24.
See: hazeron.com/wiki/Technology#Advanced_Technology_Unlocks
There are plenty of people willing to share some tech, including me. But most new players I ask trend to decline because they want to reach it on their own.
not to mention that the fee is way too high (10$ for a month +5$ for activation, right?) for what it is now.It is $10/month, there is no activation cost. Account activation happen with your first payment, it does not matter which.
You have the option to have your first payment on be for half a month for $5. So you don't really save or lose anything one way or the other.
The only exceptions being if you buy 6 months or a full year which is $55 and $100.
