DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Grates in arena deconstructs
« on: May 08, 2021, 03:35:19 am »
Four grates surrounded by nothing but natural floor and mud; I would guess that it is not a bug unless there is reason to believe the grates deconstructed at the same time.

Your gamelog.txt will contain most or all mentions of grates being toppled. You could search it for the word "toppled" and the word "grate", just in case there is something notable near the end of the gamelog.txt that explains what happened.

There were no mentions at all in the log. Can a force of a goblin/human body cause a deconstruction? Something like when the drawbridge is dropped on a dragon?

Recently, I have found a world, where almost all the civilisation is either enslaved by goblins or in towers, so I got to play for dead civilisation. After the first two migration waves, I did not get any more dwarfs and I am currently on the population of 22 (without setting any limit in d.init). I also don't get any caravans. So basically a similar scenario to the biodome project with exception of a lot of undead waves. It is really funny because every dwarf matter and every death is really painful (12 years of waiting for replacement). Till this moment I had only four deaths, two based on unmet strange moods (I don't have wool and any wool-bearing animal was not in the vicinity).

Now to the facepalm moment: I recently found adamantine.

Yeah, then the main question is, why the grates deconstruct. Is it a bug? If so I will move this discussion into the bug section. But if it is normal behaviour, I did not want to spam it there.

Because my dwarfs live in dead roamed land, I have to kill them every time miasma disappear, so sorry for the mess.

Basically all around the grates is only either a smooth diorite floor or some grass from mud (I did not found out how to clean mud effectively, so I let it grow there for now).

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Grates in arena deconstructs

Hi guys,

I created an arena for my loved ones to purge undead and other scum. The arena contains four water intake to flood the whole arena to clean it and four drains covered with golden grates. But those grates deconstruct all the time.

Is it normal behaviour?

At first, it happened when I flushed an arena full of dead bodies. I thought maybe in the fight some undead toppled it because it was building destroyer, but then it even happened in the part of the arena, where no undead managed to go.

The stories will be divided into chapters which will vary in lenght. Unfortunately because of my other responsibilities I cannot promise that chapter will be posted periodicaly.

This story is inspired by story Archcrystal: 300 years in a fortress [SPOILERS] (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=156319.msg6814181#msg6814181)created by Sethatos
Thank you a lot for your inspiration.

Chapter one

In the deep forest the group of seven dwarfs stoped. "I am tired, here we will stop" said Tempie, the ginger dwarf girl with huge hammer.
"Really Tempie, you and tired?" asked Chip, the dwarf axeman, when he lowered the axe.
"Shut up stupid!" replied Tempie. Tempie has that name because she was really temperament and straightforward, so others made fun of that.
"Ok lets make the camp here. I guess we not need to move forward more." responded Gamekeeper, the small dwarf, which looked really tired. "Hey Chip! Collect some wood please" said someone from group. "Heh with pleasure." replied Chip and with one swing he struck done small tree. "There is your wood." grinned a little.

So the group of seven sit down around newly created campfire and rested a bit. In the group there was already mentioned Chip. He was robust and he really liked his axe. The nickname Chip he got because his hobby to cut things down.

Next to him was sitting Chord. He was bit skinny and a really lot lazy. He liked the free date. But when it came to fight, bolt from his crossbow every time hit the right place.

Next one was Sharpie, normally grown guy with hobby of carving the stuff from wood. He also liked the shape of the axe.

Next to Sharpie sat Majorette bit smaller girl with very long hairs. On her side was nice copper sword. She was fast and her movement was really graceful. When she get into rage she was like huricane and she was able to deal really lot of damage.

Next one was Ginger, tough girl with big hammer. She loved hammer. And also her shield. She was like a wall in war against goblins. And noone get through her. She has a very beautiful ochre hairs. Its the reason why she was called ginger.

Next dwarf was Gamekeeper. He didn't like fights so when he had to fight, he chose crossbow. Together with his crossbow, he developed the love in hunting and game keeping. When anybody wanted from him to capture the food, it hat to be done by tradition. No skipping any part because of hunger.

The last one from our group is Tempie. The temperament swordmasteress. But even when she was really straightforward she had all the time the best of the group in her mind.

"Hey what about to stay here for few days? I guess we let goblins a long time behind us." asked Chord. "We could stay here few days maybe to try to seattle down here."

"Ok we could try. But in first sign of trouble we are leaving, understand?" said Tempie. "Understand." replied others.

So the group of last dwarves created the first camp. The place where a glory of their nation had to grow again.

In the next post I will show some preembark setting of the try.

DF Suggestions / Re: Muzeum zone
« on: September 22, 2016, 12:55:51 am »
There was a detailed thread made recently that nobody responded to: Museums and locations interaction overlap

Also, museums are confirmed for the next update, but only as rooms, not locations:
Quote from: darklord92
Will museum zones/rooms be considered locations, and attract visitors?
Nope. I just needed a room.

Sorry I was wrongly searching for 'muzeum' entry not for 'museum'. Its english typo.

Why oh why do people insist on making suggestions without even glancing at what's going on in DF right now?
Fourth entry from the top - Museum zone.

I dont get you, In development page I didnt see that. Even now I cannot find that there. And in suggestion you are right on fourth possition it is this thread, but it's this thread.

DF Suggestions / Muzeum zone
« on: September 21, 2016, 11:48:41 am »
Hello,

I would like to suggest to create nev zone like library which will be muzeum. In the muzeum there will be possibility to store some artefacts but mostly other stuff which cannot be taken by dwarfes unless told otherwise. And visiting of museum can create happy thoughts :). And better quality of items create better thoughts. Also stolen artefact can be stored there and that can lead up to war with some nation/civilization.

What do you think guys?
