DF Suggestions / Civilization screen change for the details section.
« on: March 13, 2018, 02:32:55 pm »
I advise we change the details button for when we are sending people on a raid. Currently, it is set to "?", which when pressed, brings up the manual. It's a simple suggestion, that way we can actually have our dwarves raze or whatever instead of being forced to just grabbing artifacts.

READ THIS CAREFULLY.

(Based on this: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=164948.0)

"The Savage Ones".
"Greenskins"/"Grayskins".
"Horde-kin"

These are just a few terms that you, your race, and races related to them are known by.

You are sitting alone and thinking about various things. War, and other things that come naturally to one such as yourself. But as you think, an echoing and harsh voice calls to you in your mind.

"You... You shall lead."

The voice leaves, but then a river of divine knowledge flows through your mind.

The voice was that of Öla-Usp, an ancient deity of goblinoids and orcs alike. He has granted you divine power and you realize that you are the one destined to lead and unite the orcs and goblinoids into a glorious empire. You are the Messiah of Öla-Usp.

You feel a wave of excitement wash over you and you specifically decide to carve your name, race, age, and gender into a nearby rock in order to show the other "civilized" races just who is going to rule over them.

RACES:

Orc: A typical greenskin. As an orc, you already command respect among your fellow greenskins. However, making deals with the civilized races of humans, dwarves, and elves isn't much of an option considering your barbaric nature. In battle, you'll work best with two handed blunt weapons like mauls.

Goblin: Another typical greenskin. You don't tend to command much respect from other greenskins unless you've done something noteworthy. On the bright side, your "silver tongue" allows you to make deals with the civilized races  easily. In battle, you'll work best with one handed blades like short swords or daggers.

Mountain Goblin: A not so bright and rare grayskin. You're a bit more respected than a goblin, mainly to your natural iron teeth often hurting things pretty bad when you bite 'em. You can't make deals at all with the civilized races, as you can't think of fancy words to say that would help you out. In battle, you'll work best with one handed blunt weapons like a mace.

Pigface: A magically made pig-orc hybrid. You have a bit less respect than a normal orc, mainly due to your appearance. You're below average at making deals with the civilized races due to your butchery of the Common tongue (You speak like a Warhammer Orc). In battle, you'll work well with two handed sharp weapons like longswords and halberds.

Kåbu-Smusm: A natural orc-goblin hybrid. You aren't respected at all, as you are seen as the lowest of the low by most of the greenskin races (Mainly Orcs, Pigfaces, and Goblins). You can make deals with the civilized races kinda easily. In battle, you'll work well with spears and pikes, the major piercing weapons.

Orkin: A magically made man-orc hybrid. Your respect varies, as some greenskin races will see you as highly intelligent and beneficial to them (Goblins, Mountain Goblins, and Kåbu-Smusm), while others are not fond of the human part of you (Orcs and Pigfaces). You can make deals with Humans and Dwarves incredibly well as they see you as more human than orc, but Elves will not deal with you at all. In battle, you'll work best with swords.

Mod Releases / {0.4} The Wee Folk Mod! (44.xx)
« on: November 25, 2017, 10:29:40 pm »
The Wee Folk Mod!

The poll winning mod is here!

Races:

Shrubland Gnomes: A fortress dwelling people known for their lack of self control, love of exploration and family, and having the nails on their pinky toe of their left foot be extra long, for some reason only these guys know. Playable. Will eventually have major differences for Fortress Mode.

Halflings: Calm little guys who tend to live in one tiny hamlet. These guys don't often make many other sites, as they'd prefer to be left alone as their own independent, albeit tiny, nation. Too bad the elves and goblins don't seem to agree...

Shadow Gnomes: Gray skinned gnomes with blue hair that have a fondness for daggers and being sneaky. The perfect rogues.

Tomtenisser: A race of easily angered beings who were once farm spirits that dwell in the tundras. They are incredibly strong and tough, capable of holding their own in a fight. Their bites are venomous and they wield sickles, meat tenderizers, broken handles and special swords called svärds exclusively.

Redcaps: A race of red headed angry gnomes who do just about everything in the book when it comes to evil. Playable. They can carve up wooden weaponry at the Carver's Den workshop, sacrifice a special stone called bloodrock to gain iron weaponry at the Bloodrock Sacrificer, and cut boulders into many blocks along
with refining bloodrock into a purer state which can be sacrificed at the Bloodrock Sacrificer for steel weaponry.

Boggarts: A small teal goblinesque race with a peaceful farming culture akin to halflings. They dwell in wetlands however, and seem noticeably more rude than the halflings.

Menehune: A variety of dwarf that hails from a far off chain of tropical islands. They aren't as skilled with metals as their mainlander cousins, but they manage.

Future Races:

Duhindu (gnome like creatures from myths of the Moskito people in Central America)
Barbegazi (Mythological French/Swiss gnomish fellows with large feet who live up in the mountains)
Pech (Mythological manly Scottish gnome fellows who are known for their strength and heather ales)

DF Modding / Ideas for orc castes?
« on: September 10, 2017, 01:24:35 pm »
Similar to the ideas for subterranean creatures thread I made for Culture Shock, I plan on adding something for the Goblinoids (and Orcs!) mod I have.

I only have one idea for a different type and that's orc runts. Anything you guys got?

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!

(Part sequel, part reboot.)

Time has passed in the Andromeda Galaxy. No longer is it so vast and unexplored. At least 75% of it is now known to the races that dwell here. New races have been found, new planets colonized, new wars being waged. It's a wild age.

You all are on board a rather old ship. Some of you have been on board a ship like this before...

This thing can service 6 crew members.

Now, it's time to make a name for yourselves.

(In bold is the application form example.)

Name:
Gender:
Species:
Age:
Basic Personality:
Job on Ship:

List of Races:

*Old*

Humans: Also known as Earthlings or Terrans. This race is a young one in terms of spacefaring, only learning how to do so about 450 years ago. They are mostly average, save for their adaptability to new situations.

Solm: A gecko-like humanoid race that used to have a hierarchy based on scale color before the destruction of their homeworld. To put it simply, Solm with warmer colors were upper class citizens, while lower class citizens were cooler colors. Nowadays, the hierarchy is gone, for the most part.

They are efficient ship engineers, able to figure out a ship's problem easily. However, their melee fighting skills are in need of work...

Octomoras: A race of originally water bound cephalopod humanoids from Aquin V, they are considered to be master scientists by many. One of their greatest achievements are the Land Lungs, allowing any Octomora the ability to move on land. These are put on most Octomora babies.

The Octomora are excellent scientists, perfect for seeing what kind of enemy you'll be facing and what weaknesses they have. However, they aren't very agile...

Kreptos: Brutish, red, and semi-humanoid crustacean looking dudes, these guys are among the biggest races, towering over 8 feet high! They are very much a military race, charging into battle and often crushing the opposition, sometimes quite literally under their boots.

A Krepto is often an excellent warrior and gunsmith. They cannot, however be good engineers for their lifes...

Machimachi: A mysterious humanoid race made of pure plasma. Some say these were experiments by another race. These guys are strange. The only real discernable features on their heads are their eyes, glowing a different color than the rest of them. Despite lacking a mouth, they can speak. They feed on strangely, static electricity in the air.

Machimachi are great communication officers. Most likely from hacking into comm systems with their own bodies. However, they cannot use plasma weapons, as the weapon will suck their strength away for power.

Further explanation on a Machimachi's plasma:

There are 3 colored parts to a Machimachi.
The shell (a thin skin equivalent), the eyes (which appear to only have colored sclera if you look), and their inner core.

Yellow and red are common shell colors.
Common eye colors are purple, red, cyan, and other such colors.
Inner cores are often a darker shade of the shell's color.

Mechians: Humanoid robots made by humans. The majority of these guys are rooted in their organic hating empire, while a few others have become friendly to humans...

These guys are good with ranged weaponry, but they suck at science, surprisingly.

*New*
Yola: A race of short, green skinned, and pointy earred humanoids known for their might, which rivals that of a Kreptos!
Their appearance has led to some (mainly humans) to nickname them "goblins" after ancient creatures of myth.

Yola are not too bad as warriors, but they have tried to mimic the Kreptos way of gunsmithing... and failed. Quite miserably, in fact.

Oba: A race of serpentine folk, they can be described simply as big snakes with a human like torso and arms.

Oba are not fast, but they are cunning, often tricking enemies in all sorts of ways.

List of Factions:

Andromeda Federation (all races, except for mechians): Once covering only Benov and its surrounding system,
It now covers 36 systems! They still patrol all of known Andromeda, though.

Terran Empire (humans): A violent faction led by an emperor who dominates 5 16 systems. Pretty big and pretty powerful. Do not screw with these guys.

Yulan Syndicate (humans, solm, kreptos, octomoras): A syndicate of various megacorporations that rule over now 7 systems. This union of credit grubbing companies have subsidaries for everything. They even have their own army, consisting of mostly Kreptos.

Malian Empire (solm): Another warmongering empire, they are the only major Solm faction that uses the old hierarchy. They rule now 17 systems and are archenemies of the Terran Empire.

Octomora Union (octomora): A collection of 2 systems ruled by a council of 3. Often sends out probes.

Oba Republic (Oba only): A rather decadent republic spread across 6 systems.

Yola Trade Group (Yola only): This group of traders only have one system as part of their territory... How sad. :)
Stats:

Strength: Helps in conflict and other strength based things.

Speed: Helps in evading, dodging, and attacking.

(This was based on the last survivor of my terrifying glacier fort, Spearcarnage, from a modded game of Fortress mode.)

CHAPTER I: Escape

Lustercracks. The only spot in the Blizzards of Coiling where Ilral could go. He had spent his time running far from the fort he was to lead once. That fort was Spearcarnage. Nothing about spears, but there was carnage. They had just stopped the wagon when the trouble began. Undead humanoid beasts, once known as C'thur, had began to move toward the wagon. In a few hours, three of the dwarves were dead and the other four, including Ilral, formed a squad to enact their final stand. They charged the squad, wounding Ilral's left arm and killing the other three. These were the events that has lead Ilral to his current situation.

Ilral: Oh, by Thol's beard, please let me find safety within this cavern.

Ilral dashes inside, quickly hiding behind one of the walls of the cave that stuck out. He peeked from behind it and saw only white. A snow storm was blowing. He feels he is safe for now and decides to go a bit deeper into the cave. As he walks, he spots something.

Ilral: Eh? What's this?

It was a steel hatchet, being held by a severed skeletal hand. Ilral pokes the hand to see if it is undead. Thankfully, it doesn't begin to twitch or move. Ilral grabs the hatchet with his right hand and continues to go deeper. Soon, he reaches the cavern's levels where life thrives. He hears something...

Ilral: W-Who's there?!

A chitter. A loud chitter that sounds like whatever creature making it is curious about Ilral, a being nearly alien to it. Out of the shadows comes a giant cave spider, with a scaly arm hung from one of its mandibles.
