Mafia / Re: Dwarf Fortress Mafia, anyone? (Day 2)
« on: February 26, 2009, 07:52:56 am »
I, a dwarf, haven't posted. Though my dwarfiness is probably quite apparent thanks to Rooster.

Rooster, you just roleclaimed yourself and told everyone I have a role, that isn't any good for us. If the elves had a tracking role, I'd be voting for you now and especially I'd vote if the Traitor would have already triggered.

So, I won't, but I didn't like that trick one bit. If I were mafia, saying that you're lying would the greatest way ever to get an innocent killed.

I guess the Surgeon has an easy decision tonight.

Also, qwertyuiopas, why in the world shouldn't everyone say that they're a dwarf each turn, it's not going to hurt anyone, except elves. I find this very suspicious. Though without you we wouldn't ahve said it at all after the first turn.

Finally, Zaithemaister, you've said one sentence during the whole game and jumped on a bandwagon with that. You are purposely staying in the dark, and if we were just to lynch someone, you'd currently be quite high on that list.

General Discussion / Re: Sandy Fjord

What happens to Sandy Fjord when the school ends? If it ceases to exist, I'm going to miss it as it's always great fun to read.

I felt the need to comment as I noticed the comment to blog-post ratio at the start of the thread and your nights spent without adequate sleeping. Let's just admit that we're afraid to comment as our posts are bound to be absolutely inferior to yours, Kagus.

I got the "Does it hurt when I do this?"-achievement in about an hour yesterday, from 8 to 50 dead scouts by Blutsauger. And with that, the Übersaw, finally!

Having dozens of scouts running around is quite fun actually, when playing anything but the scout (or spy or sniper) though the games become really quite hectic.

----

Anyone read the last two blog posts? I think they make a really good job dealing out critique and punishment to the players, while still being on par with the light-hearted style of the game.

Also, did some of you get hit by these disciplinary actions? Though taking the items away only for a week doesn't seem like that harsh a punishment, unless the ill-gained achievements go with them.

P.S. I didn't quite get Sentry Gunner (8 kills) while playing Engineer, but I did make my new kill record with any class (16 kills!)

I guess people are quiet as they fear that they will be accused of being mafia, want to survive as long as possible and haven't played these kind of games much before.

And you make almost enough sense and accusations for most of us, webadict. Though Org has more convincing defence than in DF Mafia (which still isn't that convinving, as he becomes provoked quite easily) and a1s has a defence this time.

My suspicions lie still at Org (though I feel that he's just inexperienced) and now some at a1s too, but I'm more concerned about all the quiet "no one, abstain"-people. There just nothing to go on with them. And for the mafia, quietly watching other people argue and vote each other is quite good situation.

But then, what about you, webadict, are you a particularly twisted piece of scum trying to get our trust by being very active or are you just a concerned Townie? You're the most experienced player here I assume, so you might be able to pull something devious like that off, but still think that the mafia is more likely to be found from the silent crowd.

Would people speak more if the 1st night had passed?

edit: Or maybe I didn't. He wasn't using mechanics there, just welding. If you were unbiased, what would you suggest?
I'm not unbiased, but my intention was to come up with an action that could get my mechanics skill finally up.

Action coming to this post when I've read the turn. The title is good at confusing me.

EDIT: I help Gantolandon with the handy tool kit of mine. 6 can't be that bad with this action, can it?

Also, in my status, the Spoiler:Abilities tag has failed.

Inalucts an elf mafia guy! Strifes RPG Thread is proof!

I vote Nuke
Though I didn't have that much of a case against NUKE either, hopping in the bandwagon without giving any reason is suspicious. I point my FoS at Org and unvote as I don't want any accidents happening.

If there were a Jester in this game and Fobos|C was it, he would be playing a superb game.

Sadly, there isn't. Votechange: Fobos|C

This thread is just too hilarious to pass up.

I'd like to be a paragrapher for a round now and see if the gate-effect will pull me down to the deeper depths of horrible Paint stick figures and mediocre usage of Gimp.
(Also I now have this thread flagged to my 'Show new replies to your posts'-button)
As I had myself hard time finding this message, I wonder if you made a 'mistake' with me as well?

NUKE9.13, as no one can see the truthfulness of other's statements, why would you claim to be a Townie? It doesn't really say anything, it's just strange.

In this game there are at least 4 baddies (OP says that there's 2 per mafia) and maybe a total of 6, counting the possible Arms Dealer and Serial Killer (Who isn't on either side, but is more likely to kill Townies than Mafia) so even a random lynch should have a good chance at hitting scum.

As we haven't got that much to go on, I'll put some pressure on NUKE9.13 as his claim to not be evil might have been a plan to fool us.

Here's the amount of comments thus far. I don't think we can vote properly until we've heard of everyone. The one-message people are all a bit suspicious because they haven't said much about anything and that seems like they want to stay in hidden (Though both dwarves and elves have reasons for that)

Also, FobosIC's message seems quite suspicious as he votes irrationally and doesn't say anything about his dwarfiness. If he is a dwarf, what has he got to lose to claim that? FoS: FobosIC.

Also also, when the Child checks the Woodworker, e will get Dwarf, but the Sheriff will get Elf, just something interesting I wanted to share.

I will abstain from voting.
No "I'm a dwarf" and no reasons for the vote (which isn't unnecessarily bad for the elves) whatsoever. Very Suspicious.

You can forget the Fingers I pointed. This beats them. Flintus10: Please explain yourself.

I'm a dwarf as well. However I'm not that sure about Pandarsenic, though he behaved (as others have mentioned) quite similarly in the last game being a dwarf.

Also, following other peoples' votes is a bit dodgy behaviour, but Pandarsenic isn't the only one doing that.

I haven't yet decided if abstaining is a good move in this setting. We might have a Sheriff and/or a Child that can get us information during the night, but if there isn't any or they can't convey the information to us so that we understand it and we don't lynch, the elves  get a free kill unless the Surgeon (if there is one) hits home and we'll be in the same nearly informationless situation as now, except with one less dwarf.

I'll keep thinking. Another factor that makes this time different is that there's no PMs, so the Child and/or Sheriff can't converse with those who e has confirmed.

You know it's really temping to role claim and it's only day 1, what is wrong with me.
Subtly dropping a hint that you are not an elf?
Or a really devious way to conceal his elf-nature.

Alexhans, I'll help you with your noble term quest: I point my (L)FoS ((Lesser) Finger of Suspicion) at Shades and Pandarsenic.

The achievements reveal that the Scattergun replacement is called Force-A-Nature and it's most likely a double shotgun with a terrifyingly powerful kick as one of the achievements is in fact getting yourself killed because of it:  ;D
Quote from: Valve
Fall Classic: Cause an environmental death or suicide using the Force-A-Nature's knockback
Oh wait, that's not really about you, or is it? Well, I guess it has knockback and a big kick to match. At last Newton's laws are respected when dealing with shotgun knockback in shooters!

Also, the Scout Monday update should be coming quite soon. I wonder if it's the new game mode (double payload?) hinted on the background of the Energy Drink update thingie?

(I promise I won't be gathering too much unnecessary information from the official TF2 forums anymore, the people are insane over there. If you don't believe me, go see the "Scout update is in fact the Spy update" conspiracies or the overwhelmingly common complaint threads about complaining. Or don't, it's really quite scary.)

I'll join, though I feel a little jelly-ish as I haven't played these before. However, I'm not that bad at deduction.

Strife, as someone who is heading shortly to civil service in Finland (The option being a defending army that most likely won't be needed as long as I would be eligible in it) and a devoted pacifist, I would be really interested to hear why do you want to go to the army and how do you justify the actions that you and others would do while you're at war?
