Other Games / Re: Left 4 Dead 1 & 2: The Passing, coming today!
« on: April 21, 2010, 11:42:46 pm »
That's right, the day is today!

Also, Valve explained Mutations. They are crazy fun game modes rotating weekly. First one is Realism Versus, which means  really hard times for Survivors and loads of fun for Jockeys. The second one mentioned is the Chainsaw Massacre: 4 chainsaws, unlimited ammo, no need to say more.

I'm off to work and hopefully when I return, it's here!

Other Games / Re: What Would It Take to Get You to Play an MMO?
« on: April 21, 2010, 04:12:29 am »
I've been trying to find a MMO I'd like to play (tried EVE, made into the APB beta and I'm now considering trialing Global Agenda and even WoW), but I'm not seeing any so far. With EVE I felt like all the things I do won't matter at all unless I decide to play it for longer and thus start to pay for it.

I guess my biggest problem is paying for the games as I don't want to feel like I have to play to not waste money. I want to play because it's fun. Also, I hate the fact that all progress and characters are effectually lost forever when you stop paying.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I play a kind of MMO: Kingdom of Loathing. It has a funny and clever world with great writing. I've been enjoying making loads of meat (the currency) on the market in it and I'm seeing the thing that keeps people playing MMOs: I've invested enough time and thought for the game to feel I'm losing a lot if I stop playing altogether. Thankfully one can jump in and out of that game without losing anything but opportunities for making meat and achieving the goals you want to achieve.

I'll say this now that the thread is close enough to the top.

Abrgglabgal!

Why do we keep having two functionally identical threads on the game(s)? There's the older and huge one right here and also on the first page with this one.

Thank you.

Other Games / Re: Team Fortress 2: Drop system update.
« on: April 21, 2010, 02:08:15 am »
Finally they changed it. I kind of hope they would've done this yonks ago as I still don't have a random hat after some 200 hours of play (and 100 hours of idling/spectating) since they were introduced. I probably won't get one now either, but at least the someday I'll get enough weapons to craft one is closer than before.

And I think Valve doesn't need to apologize to idlers, idling was just an attempted fix to this system not being fun and fair, which it is more so now.

Cool, no more timeouts and hangs, at least when the starting hickups have been sorted out.

One thing I noticed is that at least Chrome doesn't show the little brown Bay12 icon before the title in the browser, there's just the default white paper thing.

Double post for interesting news!

A (spoilery) blog post about new achievements in the Passing.

The cool ones are foot lockers and Fallen Survivors! Also the L4D1 survivors come to help and can kill a Tank on their own!

And then, the last words by Valve:
Quote
And of course, we saved the best for last: the "Mutant Overlord" achievement, which you can only get by playing six Mutations.

Right about now you might be asking yourself, "What in the hell is a Mutation?" "Why do I have to play six of them?" "Are there more than six?" "Where's that smell coming from?" All good questions. Look for most of the answers in our Wednesday blog post.

Mutations!?! Special infected crossbreeds?

I'm in as a last resort kind of guy. Put me on the list if there's space on the team when the sign-ups hit.

I'm sure I can scrounge up enough motivation to play some matches and I'm a decent Medic (and a Scout).

Official yet roundabout word from Valve: The Passing is coming next week!:
Quote
So enough worlds colliding, when is "The Passing" coming out? Well... if it was coming out next week we would say right here - Left 4 Dead 2's The Passing is coming out next week and we will be updating the blog next week with more news on the release. There you go.
(blog post)

Whee!

Oh crap, I'm pretty late, sorry. I meant to post an action before the weekend trip I just now returned from.

Great, funny turn, though I now got Macarena blaring in my head.  :P

Now to the ever-so-hard problem of getting to the key OR to the mat.

Oh yeah, does anything suggest the mat is nailed to the spot? I'll test that by trying to summon the mat and the panel to us with the headband.

EDIT: Blargh, the forum is acting up big time.

Yay! Telltale is the best!

They talked to Valve, made a deal and the people that pre-ordered from them (and possibly those that buy the game even now) get the items after all!

Telltale and Valve are clearly my favourite developers (Bay12 is beyond favourites), they actually know their customers are people and not just walking wallets.

Beta people, how is the game turning out to be? Any problems?
Whoa whoa whoa, let's not get this thread flagged for a NDA breach.

Sam and Max update.

Blargh, I already pre-ordered, from Telltale.  :'(

Otherwise, really cool.

EDIT: Telltale offers the opportunity to change to Steam pre-order, but that would make me lose the free shipping I got from them. Oh cruel world!

You've given me a glimmer of hope.  Now I'm going to try it again, and when it fails I will be crushed again.
There was a significant number of uninstalls, restarts and reinstalls to different folders (the game doesn't like the letter "ä") involved yesterday. Also, closing the program made it forget all progress and generally break down. I  gave up when it started just counting time and not downloading anything. Somehow all this made it work as intended today, even to the point that it started downloading where it left off last time.

So keep trying! There's still few days 'til Sunday!

Got a beta key, but my launcher keeps prematurely trying to unzip/install before I download all the files I need.  FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFfffffffffff :<
I had that yesterday too, along with the launcher opening and closing sporadically. It seems to work much better now.

All I've got is a weird bend in one of my ribs,
Oh yeah, I have seemingly a hole in the middle of a rib around where my heart is. Pushing to the spot with a finger doesn't hit anything bonelike. It'd be interesting to know why and how that is.
