Mafia / Re: Beginner's Mafia 6: Day 1 - In the White Tower

@Cobaltkobold
Probably Rooster, having been in the same team with him in Sean's RTD for a year and in a DF Mafia a while ago. Other than that I can't say, not having a good read on you people, but don't worry, I'm working on it.

Errol, what is your favorite role from those in this game? And if you read the flavor text, which Ajah color seems the most appealing?

Mafia / Re: Beginner's Mafia 6: Churn Style (signups- 2 slots left)

If this starts in the earliest at Friday the 4th, I'm in. (I'm in the middle of a move and the only Internet connection I'll have 'til the 4th is here at work.)

I've played in a few Mafias here, IIRC before the Mafia subforum: 2 DF Mafias, chaoticjoshes no-flip (cruise?) Mafia, Pandarsenics (Ridiculous?) Mafia (with post-restrictions, like no using 'e') and Alexhans sadly abandoned Two-Mafia game (I was Paraguayan scum and it was looking really good for us).

I just wandered here a while I go and saw that the game has developed a lot both skill-wise and in size. No arguments about voting No lynch and people are actually being active and asking questions. So, I want to get back in the scene and Beginner's Mafia seems like a good place to do just that.

Also, how's the Child role doing nowadays? Is it still as prominent as back then?

Interesting turn.

Qwerty, after catching the virus chaoticag managed to fight it to the point of immunity. He can still spread it, I think  ...which could be used as a horrifying weapon.

As my action, I'll do some investigation with the Rad-Man to check if the virus is causing trouble somewhere on the planet and what the Jags are up to.

Also, covering the truck with the rug should be fun.

I was playing Parish Versus today. Jockey is broken on the Bridge, as he can immediately incap a survivor on the edge if the others don't shoot him off first. The only 'balanced' part of that is that the Jockey dies doing it. And I think Charger can do similar.
I managed to instakill Ellis on the bridge as a Jockey, I rode off the side of the upwards slope and he kind of bounced over the edge into the sea. I'm not sure if that's intended, but I'm sure Chargers are just for knocking survivors off the bridge.

Also, on the first map of Parish, just as the survivors come up the ramp to the first square, you can charge them and use the knockback to launch them into the water, killing them.

EDIT: This is pretty cool. Apparently Nick and Francis have a connection. A gang or something, maybe?

And Construction Workers have earmuffs, thus making them ignore pipebombs. Which becomes quite the nuisance when 1/4 of the horde is these guys and half your team is down.

Oh man, got to love Valve.

www.midnight-riders.com

There's 4 people there that are certainly badass enough to survive the zombie apocalypse. If this will be the first DLC for L4D2, I see a great future for the Left 4 Dead universe.

Fun things happened in L4D2 thus far:

1. Riding and dropping two survivors from the top of the sugar mill to the bottom in one life.
2. Riding a survivor to the bottom of the sea in the Bridge.
3. Playing the awesome Dark Carnival finale for an hour trying to beat it on advanced and finally succeeding.
4. Being scared out of your wits seeing a wandering witch approach the only door of the room you're holding up in.
5. Playing Versus with you guys.
6. Setting the tank on fire on the Bridge and rushing ahead leaving it raging behind.
7. Seeing one survivor of our team managing to run through the Bridge to rescue in Versus, the rest of the team having perished at 30%.
8. Lots of other things I don't manage to remember, many of them probably involving spitters.

Cool game.

General Discussion / Re: New VN starting in general discussion?
« on: November 12, 2009, 02:36:39 pm »
One, reduce derailing and chatting in threads, use IRC, Private Messages or equivalent instead.

Two, it's Various Nonsense, not VN! Yargh! (Sorry. This just bugs me)

Following these two steps should prevent the issue at hand. Also, they would decrease the alienation new members must feel reading these kind of threads. For example, posters here seem to assume everyone knows the deal with Various Nonsense (which could be explained in the OP). Also, a fresh opinion from a newish member might be valuable in discussions like this (if there's really a lot of derailing and/or idiotism flying around), but not having much idea what the thread is about, there's a large barrier to voice it.

So, now for the recap on Various Nonsense for new and not-that-old members:

Oi, how's our motley crew doing?

andrea's enthusiasm and "ROLLS" are and will be dearly missed if we don't find him alive, of which I'm rather pessimistic about.

In fact, I don't really feel like paying $50+ for much of anything.
(45$. OR around 34$ by finding 3 players to split the four pack, though it becomes quite complicated then)

Less nitpickily speaking, for those that don't think L4D2 to be worth 45 or 50 dollars, I'm quite sure Valve'll put it on a significant sale on Christmas to make it the hit of the year.

Also, TF2 was $2.50 for a while last week, you should have got it then.
Yeah, but having it in three 2-hour whiles, one had to be quite closely following the TF2 community to make use of them.

I wonder if we can have a mode where you get to have EIGHT survivors?
There is and the infected team has 8 players too. Some time ago I managed to get on to one of these 16 player matches and Solarn joined me. As you'd expect, it's chaotic fun. Especially with some mods that are implemented with the player caps, like bigger hordes, faster tongues and two tanks spawning at once.

Even with just the 3 infected, the number of nasty strategies goes up significantly when you can have multiple smokers and boomers. I can't even imagine the traps possible in L4D2 8vs8. Also, it'd be neat if the 8 player survivor side had the original survivors with the new ones.

EDIT: Few pieces of news:
First, Valve moved the release to a day earlier, to make it available on the 17th everywhere in the world, not just the US. We'll see if they actually manage to release on time.

Second, L4D just updated adding 4vs4 matchmaking, finally.

Really, the only use I see for the spitter is to cause a bit of disruption during a panic event, drive the survivors out of that nice safe corner, or scatter them after a boomer pops in. It doesn't hurt enough to keep you from dashing through, and it doesn't last long enough to be a good denial of area attack...
I can come up with a number of uses for the spitter, some of which the AI specials have used against me. Like spitting on a pounced, smoked, pummeled or incapacitated survivor. Or spitting behind the survivors when a tank is rushing from the front. And yeah, spitting between boomed and non-boomed survivors should be fun.

Also, jogging over a fully formed acid patch really hurts you plenty as the damage increases exponentially.

I haven't tried the versus plug-in yet, tempting though it is. The "bugs" (like the 'kill'-command) and limitations somewhat make me want to wait for the proper version to get the most out of the versus experience, but we'll see how well I hold up this last week.

The L4D2 demo is now available for everyone, I recommend checking it out, though it is a rather long download. There's great quantities of fun in the two levels of the demo. Killing zombies with the frying pan just begs the text "Zombie is propelled away from the force of the blow. Zombie has been struck down"

Also, about 2 weeks to go to the full game. I'm eagerly awaiting to be able to ride a survivor to the sunset.

Chrome gave me a Malware warning on this page... weird.
Yeah, I got that too, maybe it's the Valve pictures, I'll remove 'em.

Also, 3 days to public demo!

That's right, new sale, and this time I ain't late, there's still 1 hour and 47 minutes to go!
