L4D's only real innovation is that it's entirely focused on coop
I'd say it's real innovation is the AI director and it's goal of making an infinitely replayable fusion of a single-player and a team game. Procedural content isn't a new thing, but there's a disappointing lack of it in commercial games. I hope L4D's legacy will be to remedy that situation. Also, apart from Spore I don't think there's any game that comes even close to L4D's music director, which is a really cool game element with the SI-audio cues and all.

The health is like it was in L4D1, regenerative health doesn't really make sense in zombie apocalypse survivors. In the zombies maybe.

So well this game become as overrated as L4D?
Certainly. Probably even more so. (the views in this sentence aren't to be mixed with those of LASD)

You can crawl now?

OH HELL YEAH
Sorry, expression of speech. However I remember faintly that you can move slightly even in L4D1 after you're incapped, people just prefer to shoot then.

Also, I too like that there's a lot more variation in where, what and how many different weapons are available (which was somewhat implemented in Crash Course). And I haven't even seen the magnum, cricket bat, baseball bat, katana, crowbar, fire axe, chainsaw and possibly some firearms yet.

The SWAT zombies are occasionally really nasty, but they mix up gameplay in a good way. Chargers are brutal, especially in expert, but I haven't seen jockeys do much.

P.S. Interesting fact: This week will be the only week in L4D2 history when the baseball bat isn't any rarer than other melee weapons.

Amusing fact: In the sound files the weapon after the frying pan is the frying axe, instead of fire axe.

Demo is awesome.
It is, now that they finally got it out, after five delayings.

I just arrived from an expert game where we first lit the tank on fire and then hurled a boomer bile canister on him. We still took a heavy beating but managed to keep going. In the end I crawled to the safe room with 1 life left, no ammo, slicing zombies with the machete and barely evading a wandering witch right next to the safe room door.

Oh yeah, welcome qwerty! :P

I was apparently healed, so let's pile on to the truck again. I usher others to get on the truck and sit inside it to grab the Rad-Man. Fitting there might be harder as there's now 3 more of us.

:'( My beautiful suit! My beautiful hat! They served me so well through all these worlds :'( Also, my working truck!

I try to relax myself by meditating to make healing easier and the concussion go away.

I'd love to try this game, but launching the demo from Steam yields the message

Also, Steam thought I got the game running and refused to shut down properly.

What's wrong with awayteam message?
Well, this was just a corpse I found in a random planet. Also, I though awayteam was the name of a variable or somesuch that was accidentally left there, but I gather one can actually send something called awayteam on a planet and die there. (Or I'm just a confused new player)

I just started playing this cool little huge game. I was fascinated by a colony of small, mushroom-loving humanoids living in huts fearing a cave with a monster in it.

Found a typo too, trying to buy Engine MKI, the game tells me I arelady have it. Also "there's no data to be gained from a dead awayteam" was a message I got after finding a body.

Just died by crashing to an asteroid, desperate for credits.

@Toonyman: Not quite, instead of presents there's rubber ducks, gears, hamburgers, balloon ducks and weird stuff like that flying around. It's pretty creative and funny, but it gets old.

@Mindmaker: This silly little letter did the job, with the title of "Low violence in TF2" and the category "Game questions > Video Problems":

I'd like to have low violence turned off of my Team Fortress 2. The retail version of the Orange Box I bought is apparently a censored German version, but I'm Finnish and getting a little tired of the silly gibs. Having played a lot of Soldier and Demoman lately, the regular gibs would be nice.

Thank you in advance,

I just thought I should share this thing, because I think this hasn't been done before and it is just fun, interesting, wacky and pretty damn useless and stupid.  :)

Here we go, almost back 2 years, I think I snatched the third place in the old fogey contest.

I don't really feel dumb about this post, though it is rather short and wouldn't really merit for it's own thread nowadays (and probably not even back then). Also, checking the thread out earlier, I was happy to notice that Sean Mirrsen was one of my first contacts here.

I finished the plug and I'm still waiting for volcano gas pressure to be implemented. Also, I still don't know if the whole thing is a bug.

Mindmaker, I had the same problem, having bought the German retail version of Orange Box for 20€. I filed a ticket on steam support about it, requesting the sillygibs-mode removed and replaced with normal gibs, and in around 4 days my game updated and the problem was solved. Though that wasn't anywhere near their claimed respond time, which is 23 hours.

And this was just 2 months ago, so they might have got better at this support thing.

DF General Discussion / Re: Just Press Start Interview
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:37:25 am »
I really liked the interview. The questions were really good, reaching a bit further into Toady's mind than other interviews and I rather enjoyed the editing too. Though I did listen to it on speakers, so there wasn't an illusion of shoving my head between a conversation.

I think new things have to be tried in all media to keep staleness away. The background music and left-right diversion between speakers were really interesting changes that distracted me by fascination instead of irritation.

Looking forward to the raw interview, in any form.

Here we go, made an account to follow all you people (and some others I've been looking at), I'm not currently playing DF, but I promise this account'll become one fortress log too. Soon, I hope as I've been wanting to return to my glass tower. Named after my first great fort:

EDIT: Oh, wow I didn't notice this was rather old news. This post still stands.

Great games yesterday everyone! Got some great medic-runs with a number of people. Nice game on Saturday too with the amazing dual stab on a Medic+Heavy by me an Nilocy.

Now on the matter at hand:
How much cheaper is it?

Having the server through another clan should bring some more people on the server and having the |UFF in the end of our server's name isn't that big a deal. Having it in player names would be, as for one I have no idea what |UFF is about. (Except that it is a second-hand clothes store in Finland) Also, we wouldn't really have an use for another forum would we? This one works fine.

But all in all, I don't think taking the offer would hurt, though the nifty stat site would be gone, right?
