Mafia / Re: Ridiculous Mafia (Signups!)
« on: March 05, 2009, 03:10:08 am »
Oh man, I'd really like to join this game, because it sounds crazy fun, but 3 mafia-games and final exams don't go well together at all.

If one (or both) of the other mafia-games has (have) ended or died when this one would start, count me in.

Yes, I do know limericks aren't just lines with rhymes, but as I'm not a native English speaker, I have only a vague idea of syllables in English, so I tend to screw up the amount syllables in non-spontaneous poems too. But they can still be funny, right?

That's why I can't write haikus at all, though a haiku-round would be cool.

I would be really glad
To get along with this fad
    of limericks
    and silly tricks
Please chaoticjosh, don't make me sad.

(I'd like to be a poet in the poem-rounds to come.)

To see the reasons why I vote for inaluct, see my last post and those of others too.

This page made me think that there's quite a lot of cheating going on with the scout unlocks:

Then I understood that people don't need to have the same 10 achievements to get to the milestone.

Still, it sounds quite weird that the 6th most common Scout achievement is having 10 of them. (With Medic it's 8th, with Heavy 9th and Pyro 7th.)

-----

This made me wonder what people here think about achievements and the fact that you have to gather them to unlock new weapons. Some think that the achievements are completely stupid, that the weapons should just be given for "free" and feel that Valve just makes the players grind for them.

I think the achievements and unlocks are great (if it wasn't apparent already as each of my posts is about them), because with them the game isn't only about winning and there's always progress to be made when playing. Though stats have somewhat the same purpose too.

Also, I would never go to an achievement server or use a hack to get the new weapons as there's such a great feeling of accomplishment to be had from playing fair. And I would feel as bad as I do when I have to turn to walkthroughs when playing adventure games.

So, what do you think? Do you just want to play without thinking of achievements and so got the weapons in some dodgy way or even try to completely ignore them? Do you think that the more outlandish achievements, like Placebo Effect (Kill 5 enemies with Übercharge ready, but undeployed) ruin the game? And would you like the weapons and achievements to be separate, or connected like now?

P.S. Also I've been wondering how much effort the programmers have to do to track all the achievements. Though they seem to pick primarily things that are already tracked, but there's also the oddballs like No-Hitter, FYI I'm a Medic or Photostroika.

General Discussion / Re: Amazing nature

Yes, enough with the parasites.

Not enough of shape-changing creatures. Let's take this for example. I'm surprised it isn't here already, because it's pretty much the most amazing nature thing ever.

And no, it isn't fake.

EDIT: Also, this See Bromor Neckbeards post on 'Approaching foreign ideas', it's quite amazing. I noticed it right after posting this one.

From the last (prior to that over this one) three posts by inaluct (with 2 votes on him):
Has Org's innocence been proven?
Also, did we ever get confirmation on LASD?
Also, does anyone have a list of who's still alive? I don't want to throw random accusations out, but I think that we should pay attention to people who are lurking.
Notice a pattern? He's doing his best to divert attention elsewhere, though the lurker argument makes sense. He's also behaved quite dwarfly the early days, so I don't dare to vote for him as I might be wrong again. However, if inaluct is an elf, then Qwerty is too, because of his defence.

I'm getting a elf-vibe from A_Fey_Dwarf too, but as he was the one accusing Qwerty, my suspicions become quite contradictory. Though it might be a great elf plot, where all three are elves. Maybe

Also, we need Karlito and Nuke, and Qwerty too, at least say they're dwarves. I don't think there's any excuses left anymore as you can't be the hammerer and even being the Woodcrafter, it's beneficial.

I use proper effort to make a new vehicle out of the remains of the truck.

I can be writing on any round, especially the Babelizer round is tempting.

Grow megaround, grow!

Is there any reason I wouldn't use my free background roll bonus?

I go to the remains of the truck and see what there's to salvage. I guess this isn't a long turn, but if it is, I carefully start building a vehicle out of the parts.

How long have we been in this world?

There's one new thing that raises even more suspicions of Rooster. When he told that I visited Meph, he claimed that I could be an elf, but everyone else we're under the assumption that only dwarves have roles. One way he could've know at that point that elves can have roles is that he is an elf with a role. Or he just thought for some reason that elves can have roles.

My Rooster-scale is tipping slowly towards elf ambusher, but still I haven't got the guts to seal his fate as there's the chance he's a newbie dwarf.

Mephansteras is the most suspicious person at this point as conducting power roles is a hugely beneficial situation for elves. Think about it, they know who they shouldn't try to kill, they can lead the Child and Sheriff on the wrong tracks and keep away from the spotlight. I think taking commands from someone who isn't confirmed is very risky.

If you thought that my visit to Meph's was a check if he was an elf or a dwarf and because of that thought he was confirmed, he isn't.

Also:
The good news in all of this is that, once we do have all of these people confirmed (one way or another), we'll have drastically narrowed down the list of possible elves.
And if everyone is going to turn out dwarves, as they will if Meph is an elf, the elves have killed at least 3 dwarves and probably managed to lynch some as well. How many dwarves are there currently? Have the elves already won when these people are confirmed?

I would point my FoS at you, but as webadict wants votes, I'll vote Mephansteras. Meph, why should we trust you?

I'm definitely a dwarf, feel free to check me on that.

As it turned out that Rooster may be an Ambusher as well as an elf, my suspicion towards him jumped from none to moderate. Though he seems like he is a dwarf that doesn't want to play any more.

Seriously, if you're under suspicion and don't know how to defend yourself, don't give up and get "revenge" on the other townies, try to defend yourself, even if is the worst defence ever, it won't ruin the game for others and you'll still be able to join games later on. This game is about teams, not individuals, you don't lose if you get killed. You lose when your team loses and what our "druid" did was a perfect example how to make losing more probable.

(Rooster, if you're an elf, this does not concern you.)

I'm don't know if I should vote for Rooster or not. He did vote for Shades for no reason and wants us to kill him, but still I'm more sure that he is a newbie dwarf than an elf.

I guessed that Shades would be the hammerer, but I believe he's the Sheriff.

Mafia / Re: MAFIA: Bajo Flores druglords (DAY 1)

Okay, there's quite a few suspicious things going on now. To be more precise: Pandarsenic, A_Fey_Dwarf, a1s and inaluct (and Org). Though Pandarsenic stands out the most, inaluct being the second (though the rest aren't much behind.)

Pandarsenic, you haven't made that much of an effort to defend yourself (though another suspicious character, A_Fey_Dwarf tried) and you have only attempted to divert attention away from yourself constantly. This reeks of scum.

inaluct, you mistaking the games with each other makes me suspicious. Clearly you were thinking of DF mafia mixed with this thread when you voted for Panda and still you didn't even wonder if you made the right decision fueling a bandwagon. Seems like you just want someone lynched.

However, things pointed out by me and webadict (surprising inactivity etc.) makes me want to vote Pandarsenic. I'm quite sure we've found our first mafia member.

You also get the ability to gate yourself directly to the abyss.  Why you would want to do this, I'm not entirely sure.  I suppose if the place you're currently in (Pandemonium?  Zot?) is somehow even worse than the abyss, go ahead.  Otherwise not particularly handy.
Well, this is in fact one of handiest things Lugonu gives you. It's practically a teleport without delay as getting out of Abyss as a Lugonian is no problem at all. Which is also very nice when dealing with annoying banishers.

For a long time my best character was a Demonspawn Chaos Knight of Lugonu, and his (her?) abilities saved my scaly skin a number of times. However I never used the most powerful abilities like Corrupt as I didn't have the guts, but I think it might have saved me in the last level of Vaults where my journey ended.

I am a Dwarf, Rooster is either a moron, another dwarfy backstabber for no reason, or an elf.
I would go for inexperienced. And saying that people are morons doesn't do any good to anyone.

Also, thinking who was killed and who wasn't, I'm starting to feel that at least one of our most active dwarves is in fact an elf. I base this on the fact that for the elves killing one of the active townies to weaken discussion is a great move, unless they're completely on the wrong tracks... well, that's another option.

Think about it.
