DF Bug Reports / Don't name Linux version .exe
« on: March 01, 2009, 04:42:05 pm »
In the Linux version of Dwarf Fortress, the executable is named "dwarfort.exe". On Linux, executables usually don't have an extension, so the executable should be named "dwarfort". Otherwise, people will get confused and think they accidentally downloaded the Windows version. In addition, many people (like me) have Wine installed. When a file with the .exe extension is executed, it is opened with Wine instead of being executed directly. So I think the executable on Linux shouldn't have the .exe extension.

At http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/, the Older Versions section incorrectly shows version 0.27.176.38c as 0.27.176.39c.

DF Bug Reports / DF crashed when covering magma with obsidian
« on: July 04, 2008, 12:04:58 pm »
After doing this, I tried to dig out the obsidian on the surface:

After digging one of the squares, I got the "A section of the cavern has collapsed!" message. After digging another one, the game crashed.

The ramps in my fortress don't look right. I built a tower with ramps every 2 floors. I wanted the ramps to look like they do in pyramids, but instead they did this:

DF Suggestions / Re: Use UPX on dwarfort.exe

I used this tool on my own copy of Dwarf Fortress, and it didn't cause any problems.

DF Suggestions / Use UPX on dwarfort.exe
« on: June 30, 2008, 03:50:54 pm »
UPX (http://upx.sourceforge.net/) is a utility to reduce the size of executable files. It reduces the size of dwarfort.exe to only 1.6 megabytes. Without UPX it is over 5 megabytes. This will significantly reduce the size of the download.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / I just stole 150000 worth of goods
« on: March 13, 2008, 02:42:00 pm »
I just stole over 150000 worth of goods from some traders!  I surrounded my trade depot with walls and floodgates.  When the traders were all inside, I flooded the area, killing them.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Merchant has gone berserk!
« on: February 18, 2008, 09:49:00 pm »
I had trapped a bunch of human merchants and tried to drown them.  Unfortunately, due to a bug they didn't drown.  After a few months, I get a bunch of messages like "Merchant has gone berserk!" and the human crossbowmen start murdering the merchants!  Now all of their animals are stark raving mad (is that a bug?) and there's blood everywhere.  And I get all of their stuff!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your fort's most valuable item.

My metalcrafter made this:

Bumalosh, "Worrysandal", a bronze toy axe (Worth 61200)
This is a bronze toy axe.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is studded with bronze.  This object menaces with spikes of chert.  On the item is an image of diamonds in platinum.

I wish it was a real axe.

To find hidden magma, look for places with obsidian listed.  Magma is near there.

Magnnus:  FYI, you can dig a channel over the brook.  Read the wiki.
