Could this exact position be turned to victory? Not unless that victory was immediate, as Shef suspected that even if he did not immediately lose from this attack, his survival would be intensely limited in duration if he took it head on. He had the binding grenade, and the unaffixed blade. But using them now would be suicidal. There was no guarantee that the adventuress, Sera?, was exactly where he thought beneath him.
Then, he needed to get back to the spotlight, where he could both be healed, and draw Sera out. He began the quick procedure of drawing out an expulser round, though it felt achingly slow now, and then detonated it at his chest, to push him towards one side of the blade cage. Or rather the portal directly in front of that side. A calculated choice, as a portal below would have taken more time to move through, more time in the anthrax. With this, he'd be flying up towards the opposite side of the stage from Magnum and Yuki.
Expulser [3] and a portal behind Shef to propel him out of blade cage, and in a path to the stage. It won't help, but modify with portals away from a direct ballistic path. Cached portals ready for the disembodied blade slash, but not to be wasted on the causality manipulating stun sword. Use the remaining control effects to distract Magnum, first by having him think he has to pay attention to Shef, and then, to think it'd be so much cooler if he posed for a few seconds before actually defending. Sera would love it, don't mind the summoner's command protesting, it's cause he's jealous.
