DF General Discussion / Re: What actually makes DF great
« on: April 18, 2018, 09:21:35 pm »
Armok is going to be completely disregarded in the Myth release, by the way.
Armok has always been completely disregarded. He's a myth invented by fans to justify juvenile bloodlust fantasies (and, yeah, I know a procgen Blood God named Armok appears in one of threetoe's stories).

Sorry, but that is simply not true! The game title itself is "slaves to armok: god of blood". The fans just elaborated a little bit.

If I recall correctly, the name "Armok" was actually chosen for the original "Slaves to Armok", inspired by a variable called Arm_ok. The reason Toady does not include him in the myth/deity stuff is because each world is created differently in that respect. Also, Myths are just what the people think happened, not actually anything that has to be true.

I always go with the "When the world gets boring, Armok reforges it" believe. That also explains why the inhabitants of the world aren't aware of his existence (for the most part).

DF Suggestions / Re: The ability to free animals
« on: April 18, 2018, 03:42:11 pm »
I think the word your looking for Starver is Domesticated. Domesticated animals give birth to tame children. Adult wild animals cannot be domesticated, but there children can. So its a question of them never knowing a life without dwarves.

DF Suggestions / Re: Food should have a certain amount of nourishment
« on: April 18, 2018, 03:37:32 pm »
Well, lets see what this would accomplish:

1) Dwarves would spend more time eating/walking to/from food stockpile. since a strawberry still requires the dwarf to pick it up, possibly bring it to a table, eat it and then decide if he should resume a usefull task or go back and eat more.

2) make some sources of food more practical then others, even if they yield the same amount of items and therefore require the same amount of labor.

3) make the game somewhat more realistic, although true nurishment of course isn't depending on size.

I am not sure WHY you want this to be added, but those are my thought on it. Also, your information is a little of according to DF wiki: Dwarves consider eating at 40000 ticks, and I was unable to find the size of strawberries and other such plants on the wiki or in the raws.

Sry if it sounds like im dragging your idea through the mud, I would be genuinely interrested in hearing why you want this. Also, where did you get the size for prepared fish from? since your writing that most food has a size assigned to it.

Yeah, I saw that too some versions back, would be interesting to see if that whole visitor bloodbath still happens. I mean, it makes sense i guess, but its just a mess...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Badlly Distracted

You could have all your non-specialist dwarves make stone blocks. That way you're getting a useful product, and they're satisfying their craft need. And if your peasants all become novice masons, then you have better chances of getting artifact furniture (especially doors or hatches) rather than crafts.

Wouldn't this also quadruple your item count, thereby decreasing FPS?

books, at least originals, are tracked as artefacts if I interpret the game correctly, and can be raided via the artefact recovery mission. I dont know the answere to your specific question though.

DF General Discussion / Re: Why are goblins immortal?
« on: April 10, 2018, 07:00:09 pm »
Insert Armok and your answer works too ;)

No, seriously, The theory that goblins and elves are related is very plausible. besides being immortal, they are also the same size at adult and become children and adults at the same age (1 and 12 respectively). besides the immortal part, these traits are however also found in dwarves, making it plausible that all races are in fact related to each other.

Coming reading this after a game of star wars battle front, and I honestly find your text funnier than the picture.

Well I think the biggest plus for magma is that its not an exploit. I mean, you can all play how you want to, but if there is a bug-free way of doing something, ill damn-well take it! :)

I have always admired this fort, and you as a player, but I never got why you use a tileset. especially now, with the world map, it really messes things up :P

If you just want a prisoner, I believe enemies caught in cage traps dont need food or sleep either.
