Another mean of evolving could perfectly be possible. But depending on it, it could lead to a vastly different experience.

Time for some exposition. In game, players level is represented by their stage. Their "experience" (experience as in the common term used in gales for what you accumulate to increase levels, but I digress) is represented by their essence.

In the RTD's world, essence is what makes up a soul, and the stage refer to the "size" of your soul. (I am eager to delve more into this)

In short essence evolution is making your soul grow. So other means of getting stronger are definitely possible, and feel free to ask away.
So say, a character who doesn't evolve suddenly in large bursts, but grows bigger and stronger slowly but consistently as they pick up specific objects?
You could always just have a normal-growth character with an ability for assimilating things. It could help out growth, such as contributing up to maybe 25% of the "experience" needed for the next stage. Or, the assimilated objects could act like ammo or other weaponry, allowing for attacks on larger scales. In fact, maybe you could just make small minions out of some amount of them.

I never wanted to counter. I wanted to attack Yotta, just without moving toward him myself. Attacking when I get a chance to isn't countering. That doesn't matter now, though; the bolo's a more pressing matter. Untie the bolo. Then start actually figuring out what the boots do.

Search the forest for a fox or owl. Upon finding one of them, attempt to offer them two strawberries. If there are several, take note of how they appear (physically and behavior wise) and don't offer berries. Wither way, consider the nature of relations between animals and humans, or other sentient beings.

Use forge in building to turn 1/2 of the chopped wood into pieces of charcoal. Consider the nature of burning and how charcoal can still burn well despite being thoroughly burnt.

Bring logs back to base, and chop one up to prepare to make charcoal out of it. Consider the nature of dulling now, how things lose their sharpness. The specific spell I'm thinking of is the inverse of that last spell I learned, dulling something for 1 turn per mana.

Also, Glass shouldn't've been able to get a familiar. He needs charcoal for that, and he didn't have any last turn.

Just put them in a quantum state. He's not using them next turn, so we can get clarification on what he's trying to do and if he can do that then.

Go back into the forest, and chop down some wood. Consider the nature of sharp edges, and how they are able to stay sharp after frequent use.

I suggest that maybe you should put up an action now. If you don't, then, to be fair, FOU, just replace my action with me just attempting to understand the boots a bit better, and using the chainsaw to separate the chalice from the DERPBOT statue.

So, a tier two loot costs two tier one loots...let's call this two units of loot.
A tier three piece of loot then costs 6 units of loot.
A tier 4 loot takes 24 units of loot. That, in itself, is a lot.
A tier 5 loot takes 24 x 5 =...120 units of loot. Wow. That ought to be sufficiently overpowered.

Greater Bug Spray: Spray out assorted bugs.
Grater Bug Spray: Attracts bugs wielding graters. Mostly cheese graters. Yes, they're big enough to wield them.
