Masterwork DF / Masterwork Dwarf Fortress: Fedora installation:
« on: February 01, 2017, 12:59:07 pm »
So, I've been trying for a while to get the Linux version (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=160636.0) of Masterwork to function on my Fedora 24 install, to no avail.

So, my question is, to those out there who are far more experienced than I am with Dwarf Fortress:
How do you get Masterwork Dwarf Fortress to run natively (without Wine, or some other form of compatibility software) on Fedora (more specifically Fedora 24)?

To note: it is much easier to get vanilla Dwarf Fortress to work on Fedora:

If it's that much trouble then Windows.

Although, personally I'd just look for something else to play. Obsession over one specific application inevitably leads back to selling your soul to Microsoft in the end.

I suspected that was the case. Considering this, I'll just repair my old rig and run it on a separate HDD, probably with Windows 7.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions.

Currently I'm using Fedora and to do, or modify anything is a chore (without damaging Fedora itself, or the game).

Is Masterwork good? My only thoughts against it, at the moment at least, is the fact that it seems to be a little unstable recently, with quite a few complainants.

some people cant get past world generation/embark.

some people (me) get 2 crashes per 80? hours of gameplay.

How stable is it on Linux OSes; Especially Fedora, or Arch, as I may be moving to the latter?

I give all civ species 3 n discipline. making everyone have some backbone.

Thank you, that's a good idea.

Surely wouldn't building in evil area(s) give rise to more assaults?

I casually played Dwarf Fortress a few years ago, though was never active in the community and didn't really investigate much into the game outside of the standard Wiki articles and vanilla game play.

However, I have recently decided to return as I dropped things like World of Warcraft (as it became asinine and mundane, more of a chore than hobby). In my return to Dwarf Fortress and with a lighter workload, I have decided to investigate a little more not only into the community, but into the game play and embellishment of it (hence finally making a forum account).

So, I come to my question, what modifications do you consider as standard for a fresh installation?

Modifications that improve upon the graphics, magic and other aspects without drastically changing the ambience or theme of it.

Thank you for your time.
