DF Modding / How to remove aquifer from all tiles in the world?

I'm currently repeatedly genning a custom world to get a very specific embark for a tech fortress with lots of water and magma. However, I have not yet found one that suits my needs. I have found that a major bottleneck in my search is aquifer -- one of my worlds has an embark that is reasonably suitable except for the aquifer. How do I remove all aquifer from a world, for this and future needs?

Has anyone managed to embark directly on top of a necromancer's tower using DFhack's embark-anywhere functionality? That would, of course, be very epic, so if anyone has shared their story I would like to see it. I did try to do so, if only to see how a tower looks like and to witness the epic but very brief battle that ensued.

If no one has done this before, someone should definitely do that now.

Hello,
I'm a newbie at Adventurer Mode, but after genning a world, creating a character, and looting the mead hall I was in for arms and armor like in the quickstart guide told me to, I decided to begin my adventure with finding a bandit camp my fellow humans were complaining about. I selected it in the quests menu, and, as it turns out, I don't need to move any distance in the "big" map squares.

The quickstart guide said to follow the direction in the upper-left corner of the map -- it said "west" so I went west, but then it said "east" so I back-tracked a bit, but now it just says "***". What's that mean?

Hello everybody,
I very stupidly left the game unpaused, causing a werehyena to come and rip apart 3 dwarves and infect two others (one of which is a legendary marksdwarf) before changing back and getting caught in one of my cage traps. When the werehyena changed back, however, it became known as a "lady consort"; what does this mean? I heard that when the king/queen comes he/she brings a king/queen consort, but I don't have the requirements for a monarch and I don't see one in my unit list.

P.S. I shall pit the consort in single combat with one of my captured blind cave ogres. She must pay for what she's done!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How to get rid of undead water buffalo?

I started my second attempt at an evil embark today, and this time it went further than expected. However, I forgot that the water buffalos that were brought to haul the wagon were grazers, and so didn't assign them a pasture. (Even if I remembered, all the vegetation was dead at the embark site, so I wouldn't have been able to feed them either way.) So they died of starvation, and then reanimated, SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF MY FORTRESS. They went on a rampage and since I didn't have a competent military yet, I lost my embark.

I then reclaimed and was joyous at the sight of all my stuff lying in big heaps both inside and outside the fortress. I hoped that reclaiming would get rid of the troublesome beasts, and at first my hope seemed to have been realized, but then one of the water buffalos appeared with the message "An ambush! Drive them out!" Maybe the other one was hiding somewhere my dwarves hadn't revisited yet and so hadn't revealed itself yet.

I really liked my embark, so how do I get rid of this beast?

What is the required exported wealth to get a forgotten beast? I'm asking because I have 0 exported wealth, and I want to explore the caverns, but I'm afraid of getting attacked by a FB.

EDIT: Also, the top layer of the cavern I discovered is 23 levels below surface. I'm assuming this is a 2nd-layer cavern?

Hi everyone, I was wondering which viewscreen hook is for the main display window in Dwarf Fortress mode? I mean the window that shows the dwarves and workshops and whatnot, not the main option window to its right.

DF Modding / Custom construction

Is there a way to make a custom construction in DF? I know you can't do this solely with raws, but can you accomplish this by using DFHack as well? Thanks.

EDIT: Also I'm aiming to use C++ for this one, since I know bubkes about Lua.
EDIT #2: If at all possible, could you also still be able to assign work orders to the building? I just it to show up in the construction menu and be able to be mass-designated.

DF Modding / How to instantaneously move building from one tile to other

Ok, so I'm new to the DFHack library and memory hacking in general, but I have extensive Python and C++ experience. I'm looking for a way to instantaneously move a building from one tile to an adjacent one. According to the comments in the DFHack code (library/include/modules/Building.h), I can't simply destroy the building with constructWithItems and recreate it somewhere else with destroyBuilding, because that would require dwarf labor, but I want to do it immediately.

Is it just as simple as modifying the x, y coordinates in the building struct? I doubt it.

Any help?

If you look at the default raw file for a minecart on the DF wiki, there is this line:

[TOOL_USE:TRACK_CART]I can only suppose that there's a correspondent [TOOL] or something somewhere, but I'm too lazy to check. What is a tool?

EDIT: I'm interested in how minecart mechanics is implemented, which is why I'm looking at this. If someone else can explain how to mod an object that moves like a minecart (but isn't a creature), I'd be much obliged.

DF General Discussion / Dwarves have no booze. Halp!

Hello, I have a problem. I have a fortress with a still to make booze for my obese slackers dwarves. Somehow, though, I get cancellation spam saying "Urist McBrewer cancels Brew Drink from Plant: Needs empty food storage item." I have set the "Reserved Barrels" setting to 30 in the stockpile menu. (And yes, I did create a lot of barrels after I did that, so the problem can't be that all the barrels were already reserved for something else.) Help?
