Attacks against a prone opponent are twice as effective as those same attacks against a standing one.

There are no muffins in DF.
I have an idea for a community fortress I want to start, but since the release is so close I think I'll just wait until it comes out so I get to enjoy all the cool new features in the aforementioned fortress. Meaning that my hype for the new release is combined with the hype of starting the community fortress, so I'm really, REALLY hyped right now. It'll be quite a while before the release is stable enough to play a community fortress. Things are bound to break if everyone upgrades every few days which each new update. And some won't upgrade due to lack of dfhack during their turn or whatever. Community fortress with everyone on different df versions? Fun, but not quite the right sort.
Start now, dorfs may all be dead within a month. Just in time for the release.
I didn't even know their were multiple species of mosquitoRule #1 of Biology: There are multiple species of EVERYTHING.
I once had dwarf traders with a barrel of Gremlin sweat for sale.It must be a by-product of the gremlin labor camps. Several thousand gremlins pulling levers for the dwarves all day must make a lot of sweat.
Just... who would harvest that? And why put it up for sale?
So, I had some ideas about what our young wizard could do with some of the things he has discovered so far, but sadly will require tools/materials/knowledge he does not yet possess. So basically a flying surveillance drone. Made out of a bag and some stones.
1) "perfect" lenses, made of our invisible glass, blown into carefully shaped bottles, that are then filled with distilled alcohol. Since the glass has no refractive index at all, scratches on the surface will not mar or deflect light passing through, making the lenses very resistant to wear and tear. The alcohol is what actually functions as the lens.
2) "runestones." Basically what you get when you mix dark age stained glass techniques with magic, and invisible glass. (specifically, the use of yellow and silver stain paints, mixed with lampwork) Results in invisible glass cabochons that have a magical enchantment embedded inside the glass, creating the visual effect of a disembodied rune floating in the air just above one's palm.
3) Optical illusion based enchantments. We can combine the above two items with silvering (mirrored surfaces) to create optical illusions that optically combine the images of various adjustable or movable parts to create a "virtual", or "illusion" composition. It might be possible to create a "dynamic" enchantment this way.
which brings me to a possible magnum opus device:
4) "All seeing eye"
This device is a combination of a 3d mirage projector, the more fully understood "mini portal" based enchantment that our bag uses, invisible glass, perfect lenses, and optical illusion enchantments. This allows us to create a portal to "an arbitrary location", which is still very small. This portal form inside the projector, and functions as the object that we are magnifying and creating the mirage of. The image of the portal is projected up through the aperature, where we can then look through it. The portal is dynamically reconfigurable, because we use optical illusion based glyph composition to create the enchantment using "runestones" and mirrors. This would allow us to use clockwork knobs and levers to control the device, and manipulate the location/orientation of the mini-portal on the fly. The user looks through the viewing aperture, and can see a fully 3D mirage (they can lean over, walk around, and peer over the image, to see behind or around things.) Upgraded version might have a magic wand with adjustable enchantments aimed into the portal, allowing it to be used to fire spells at somebody from a remote location.
