Mori looked over at Mildred, stared for a moment as of he was trying to figure out if having her carry Daiya was really a good idea, before finally shrugging and going back to healing.

“Not like he can get scratched up worse.” he thought, ”Or wouldn’t kind of deserve it.”

302
Mori quickly ran a scan of his memory and information to try to identify who Mildred was talking about and what information he had on them, while moving over to where Tsukasa had been knocked down, picking up Kanna on the way.

“Healers, get to work patching everyone up.” he said, as some silver mist floated off his hand and settled around Tsukasa and Kanna, ”And someone grab the shithead. I don’t care that you don’t like him, we’re not leaving him here.”

303

"What could you possibly find fun about being a Kaijin?" Mori asked from Saya's shadow, genuinely confused.

While doing so, he prepared some roots to grab at the masked kaijin, not to really hurt him, more to slow him down at inopportune moments.

304

"I have protection detail, you can focus on beating him up and protecting the civilians." Mori said, as he slipped into Saya's shadow.

Guard Target Tsukuyomi.

305
Mori took Jin's hand and accepted the help up, and as his head neared Jin's ear, he swiftly whispered

"*Kasuga and I need to talk about your cat. Batting Cages, tonight?*"

Once he was up, he swiftly transformed back into Reynart.

"I was overly rude with Kasuga and Pyrrha, but my interaction with Proixois was mutually aggressive. I'll not apologize to someone who mocked me for the demon in my head, among other things." He stated as if he hadn't said anything before, "I do intend to properly apologize to Kasuga later, but this is not the time. For now, there remains a danger to the civilians."

He walked off to go help deal with the toad.

306

Well, his cheek smarted like something else, but given he’d expected to have been beaten to bloody unconsciousness, only needing an ice pack was a win.

He swiftly transformed back into Reynart, staying in human form any longer was practically an invatation to the toad to attack him after his distraction had failed, and went to rejoin the others.

307
“Sorry, Mori, you’re too young to have to learn this, but… you’re already too perceptive for me to lie to you. Listen, sometimes, you just don’t have a way to win. You’re up against someone who has too much money, or power, or influence, or… just, sometimes you just can’t beat them. It doesn’t matter if you’re right, or you’re wrong, or you’re both right, or you’re both wrong, you just can’t win. Sometimes you just have to stop, you have to lie down and just accept whatever is going to happen, because if you keep fighting, you’re just going to hurt yourself so much worse than if you just stop.”

“Wow, this is not a conversation I should be having with an 8 year old. Don’t tell your mom, ok?”

Mori took a deep breath.

”Aegeaon, just go deal with the toad, the others need your help more than I do.”

He took another deep breath and pulled the mask off his face. Blue fire washed over him again, starting with his head and working his way down his body. When it had burnt out, Mori stood there, in human form, his arms stretched out to the sides.

”Let’s just get this over with.”

308

”I’m actually very opposed to having my face beaten in, I’m just willing to take one for the team if it’s to make sure the toad gets roasted.”

309

"Everyone but Aegeaon, go! Momotaro, keep Miyazono safe! I'm just the distraction, and even if Aegeaon can't keep Pyrrha off me the whole time, I can take a few punches as long as someone patches me up after!"

That was not entirely truthful. The combined exhaustion from the fight, effect of being hit by Shinigami, force of the punches he had gotten, and the still lingering feeling of being slow-roasted by the voices in his head had him at the point he was ready to drop, but he wasn't going to let that masked toad use him like Akari was. Besides, Akitsuki could patch him up later.

"Sorry you have to look out for me, Aegeaon, but I don't think I'd survive the full force of Pyrrha, and I don't think we have anything to bring back the dead," Mori stated, trying to keep up a brave face, "but if someone else is taking care of Miyazono, then I can lend you a hand."

He snapped his fingers and black vines erupted from the floor, tangling around Shiro to keep her in place, though he readied himself to jump into a nearby shadow if he had to.

310
Despite the mask, and total lack of face, Mori hoped it was clear from his body language that his reaction to Akari's outburst was an exhausted stare of total confusion.

"Ummm... no way in hell?" He replied, "I'm not letting go of Miyazono while this fucking toad is at all present."

He ducked, behind Akihiko. He couldn't drop into his shadow with Otoya in his arms but...

He chucked a pollen bomb near Shiro's feet, avoiding hurting her but impairing her vision.

"Don't let him distract us! We need to keep him away from Miyazono, Sakurajima, and Daiya, even if the last one's a shithead!"

311

"Thank you." he said to Aika, "And thank you for your help earlier while I was... out of it."

Back to Miyazono, while his response to Mori's statement was less than encouraging, Mori couldn't help but smirk behind his mask. Words lie. He understood that better than probably anyone else in this place. Body language was much more honest... generally at least. While he could hear what Shinigami said, with the smoke finally out of his eyes, he could clearly see Otoya floating inside the core, and that was all he really needed.

"Don't worry, Miyazono. I hear you clear as day." he replied, the tone of his voice containing just the barest hint of a smile.

Then Kasuga's first statement properly got through.

"Ah right, yeah." Mori replied, "Ok, so, first, Pyrrha, sorry for bringing up your home life. I don't know that much, but I probably crossed a line given your reaction. Momotaro, I apologize for leaving you to fend for yourself when I had a breakdown. I said I would defend you and I didn't. I owe you something to make up for that later, let me know what you want. Ibaraki, I apologize for just... the whole speech, and especially the myopia comment. Gawain, I apologize for the various mean things I said and/or thought. I suppose in hindsight it was wrong of me to blame you and Scathach for the Hell I'd been through this past week under the assumption you'd known that all of this would, or at least could, happen and had failed to warn us. And Proixois..." Mori paused.

"...no, I don't think I need to apologize to you for anything. You repeatedly called me a psycho, belittled myself and Vasusena, and were just generally terrible, and I don't think any of my statements crossed a line or even were that far from true." he finished, "Now, back to saving Miyazono."

“You don’t understand. This isn’t about control, or manipulation. This is about responsibility!”

He could feel the pressure of the smoke building up, trying harder and harder to force him down, but he refused to be forced to the floor again.

“I have a responsibility to my position, to the power that I received, and to the people who I can help!” He shouted, “I don’t get to choose to stop, to change my ways, or to let things go. I have no choice but to perform my duty, or die trying!”

He tried to stand, fighting against the ever growing pressure building on top of him, no longer trying to push him down, but to crush him into the floor. His legs felt like they were being filled with molten lead, his arms like he was holding up the sky, but he wouldn’t allow himself to collapse. He didn’t have the choice to falter. He had a responsibility to Otoya, to Kanna, to the other Kaijin, to the healing powers he had gained, to everyone.

Something appeared in his hands, a long, wooden object. He slammed it down onto the ground, using the force to push himself up, until he was standing on his own two feet again. He forced his eyes open, ignoring the acrid sting of smoke as he focused his gaze on the face of the giant Akuma.

“I let myself become a demon in order to help those I care about!” Mori shouted at the top of his lungs, “And I have a responsibility to make sure you don't do the same!”

He took one hand off the object in his hands and reached out in front of him, as if he was grabbing for something only he could see.

“If at the end of this, you want nothing more to do with me, then that’s fine by me!” blue fire started blazing in his outstretched hand, “Because I don’t care if the only end of my path is an unmarked grave with no one one mourn me! If I can make a better world for those I care about, then I’ll burn in Hell with a smile on my face!”

The blue fire chased back the smoke, swallowing Mori like a ravenous beast, until his body was completely consumed. Then he heard a voice, whispering in the back of his mind.

“Call me once more…”

He snapped his outstretched hand closed.

“Seize Power! Seize What’s Mine! Seize Everything!” he shouted, causing the fire to flare up, breaking through the cloud of smoke that still surrounded him, “Reynart!”

A shadow washed over him, blocking out the light of the fire, as he could feel his form shift again, and just like when he’d first become Fantomas, he could hear a voice speaking to him from inside his head.

“Don’t worry about fighting, Mikado.” spoke Reynart, “I’ll be your Kogarasu Maru. Even if the demon tries to stop your once more, I’ll fight on.”

As the shadow disappeared, there stood Reynart, looking the same as when he’d appeared in the Home ec room, with the exception of the leafy green kuanai in his hands having been replaced by a bokken, dappled in the color of autumn leaves, which he leaned on like a walking stick. A few such leaves spun around the masked Kaijin as well, before burning up with an otherworldly blue fire.

The only disturbance was another voice.

“Very well. A different approach next time.”

He ignored it. He had more important things to worry about now.

“Sorry for taking so long, everyone.”

He lifted his sword up and pointed it at Otoya.

“Forget my babbling. We can talk later. For now, I have a promise to keep.”

Irine 1
Irine runs back into the cave. The wyverns, while not particularly intelligent, still understand that attempting to follow smaller prey into an enclosed space is likely to end poorly for them, so they remain flying around the valley. Unfortunately for Irine, she needs to cross the valley.

Irine 2
Activate NP: Irine Loses 50 Mana (Now 50)
Wyvern 1 Strength Check: 9 (Failure)
Wyvern 2 Strength Check: 3 (Success), 9 (No Crit) Remainder 3 vs 3 (Failure)
Wyvern 2 Agility Check: 3 (Success), 3 (Crit Success) (1.5X) Remainder 6 vs 3 (Success), 9 (No Crit) Remainder 3
Damage Check: 7 (Failure)

Fighting against her instinctual desire to run back into the cave and avoid the giant flying predators, Irine instead decided to go all out and unleash her Noble Phantasm. A spiral of flames begins to form in the center of the valley, spinning slowly, but fast enough to disturb the air currents that the wyverns fly on, causing one to be pulled away.

The remaining wyvern swoops down, ready to attack the fox standing in clear sight, it’s brown talons stretched out and ready to cut, but Irine covers her body in her tails, and the claws end up glancing off instead, as the wyvern flies back up into the air.

Nuada
Activate NP: Nuada loses 50 Mana (Now 50)
+ to Strength. + to Agility. +40 damage
Wyvern 1 Agility Check: 9 (Success), 4 (No Crit) Remainder 3 vs 10 (Success), 3 (No Crit) Remainder 2
Damage Check: 8 (Failure)
Wyvern 2 Agility Check: 9 (Success), 9 (No Crit) Remainder 3 vs 3 (Success), 8 (Crit Success) Remainder 1

“Switch On - Blade of Kings!” Nuada shouts, an otherworldly light glows from his sword and silver arm as the mana in his body began boosting his physical capacities. The wyverns’ wings seemed to beat in slow motion as his perception sped up, but not slow enough.

One wyvern dived at Nuada, and despite his best efforts, he failed to get out of the way in time. Fortunately, the wyvern’s talons scratched harmlessly against his silver arm. The other wyvern dove down, but Nuada dodged the assault.

Doc Holliday
Luck Check: 3 (Success), 9 (No Crit)
Agility Check: 1 (Success), 8 (Crit Success) (1.5X) Remainder 6 vs 5 (Success), 9 (No Crit) Remainder 7
Damage Check: 7 (Failure)
Wyvern 1 Agility Check: 1 (Success), 9 (Crit Success) (1.5X) Remainder 2 vs 3 (Success), 2 (Crit Success) Remainder 5
Wyvern 2 Agility Check: 9 (Success), 10 (No Crit) Remainder 3 vs 6 (Success), 1 (Crit Success) Remainder 3

Doc pulls out both his pistols, releasing a flurry of fire from both revolvers right into the wyvern's belly when it dives close.Unfortunately, the bullets only end up bouncing off the wyvern’s armored stomach.

The two wyverns don’t fair much better, as Doc dodged both of their dives without a scratch.

John Henry
Agility Check: 7 (Success), 8 (No Crit) Remainder 3 vs 8 (Success), 3 (Crit Success) Remainder 1
Wyvern 1 Agility Check: 3 (Success), 7 (Crit Success) (1.5X) Remainder 2 vs 9 (Success) Remainder 1
Damage Check: 1 (Success), 5 (No Crit) Remainder 5 vs 8 (Success), 9 (No Crit) Remainder 6
John Henry takes 23 Damage (Now 63)
Wyvern 2 Agility Check: 4 (Success), 5 (Crit Success) Remainder 3 vs 9 (Success) Remainder 1
Damage Check: 7 (Failure)

John Henry winds up to throw a railroad spike at the wyvern diving down at him, but the wyvern ceases flapping it’s wings for a moment, causing it to drop out of the way of the attack, before resuming it’s flight to dive down at John.

While John tries to get out of the way, he’s simply not fast enough, as the wyvern’s talons tear through his shirt and overalls and leave a decent sized cut in the skin underneath. The second wyvern follows it’s friend’s path, but fortunately for John, it finds its claws attempting to cut through a more durable target, the metal part of his arm, and it ends up flying back up without having given him any new injuries.

Ok, if anyone still cares, this is back. Sorry about how long it took, I've been working on stuff like trying to find a summer job or getting an internship since I finished school, but the real issue was a lack of feeling creative or being in a writing mood. Honestly, that isn't back yet, but I finally decided to just sit down and make myself write the turn since I didn't have anything I needed to do today and it was unfair to make you all wait until I felt up to it. It may take me a bit to get back into the swing of how to run this, but I'm going to do my best to get back to stable updates.

Through the distortion and screams of the smoke, Mori couldn’t hear Yui’s words very well, but well enough to understand she had decided to protect him.

“Marc'heg Gwer…” Mori muttered.
“How cruel you are, to have tricked innocents into believing you deserve their aid.”

“I’m sorry for dragging you into this.” he continued, “I know you wanted no part of the violence.”
“If you could not keep such a simple promise to this girl, what makes you believe you can keep your promise to save Miyazono and Sakurajima?”

Mori learned Kiara for 7th level.
