Most of the crew didn't spot him. But Brother Jonathan caught a furtive glance of a Karrnathi uniform as a figure moved through the ruins, up towards the ruined dome. [19 stealth vs natural 20 perception]

Roll Stealth, Detlas.

There seems to be a small but well-kept camp. There's some firewood stacked and ready, made from ruined furniture.

Detlas Jundar made it there first, and unseen.

The shooting star in the distance turned, and streaked across the sky. It started to grow again, more slowly as Kayto cut sails. Within a few minutes, the Astral Kraken loomed over the ruin of what was undoubtedly a part of what was once either Cyre or Karnath, depending who you asked.

"Hard to say." Kayto d'Lyrandar replied. "Would you like to come about?"

On a mote of earth torn from an island and suspended in space, a man sat leaned up against the edge of a fireballed church. He'd wandered the few hundred feet in either direction that was left of his world. He'd laid traps, to catch the moles and the rats. More and more, his traps had been coming up clean. He'd checked on his garden. The sun had been getting farther away, he thinks. It had been getting colder. His vegetables weren't growing so well. It was another day of hard rationing. Overhead, the sun managed to glare, despite being colder and farther away. A tiny blue speck hung between the mote and the sun, which, if he'd been an educated man, Detlas Jundar would have known must be Eberron.

In the other direction, a star appeared, and started to grow. Detlas barely had time to flinch before it flashed overhead, leaving a white streak like a comet's tail. For a moment, he could have sworn there was an airship inside that brilliant white light.

Dullahan had been on the deck. Him, Atil, and a few others. He saw a tiny speck of white suddenly grow enormous, momentarily filling most of the port sky before it shrunk away behind. To the two of them, it conjured a memory. It was a battleground they'd been on, a few weeks before the end of the war. They'd been pulled away for their last mission, a deep strike behind enemy lines. They recognized some of what everyone had seen. A caved in dome of a temple to the Sovereigns. Houses collapsed by fireball artillery striking from both sides. It was an all too familiar image of the Northern Front. In particular, it reminded them of an island on the River Cyre they'd once fought at together. Neither of them could recall what it might have been called.

And neither of them was positive that they weren't just imagining it. The war, they were told, sometimes had that effect on people. But there would be people on Eberron who would want to be certain.

It seemed most of the crew were ready to return home. The Astral Kraken searched the rings for some time, finding little of value but filling the hold with what they could of the strange Soarwood. The ship began to pull away from the strange forested landscape, moving towards deep space.

Deploying the sails, they left the system like a shooting star. In the kitchen, the chef was preparing a feast of roast swan, with sweet potatoes, stuffing, and a cranberry salad, along with loaves of fresh bread, served with ice-cold rye beer.

Having relayed the contents of the cargo, Cylia d'Sivis was able to present the company's sales figures for the contents of the cargo hold, subject to any amendments if you choose to acquire some with your take. She had underlined the relevant section for your interest.

Bill of Goods:

813.1 galifars in exotic currency
House Kundarak moneychanging fee: -8.13
93 galifars in mixed jewelry
11 alien rapiers @12.5g second hand market [1 acquired by Hel-Shredder Rippedspleens]
11 alien wands @5gp second hand market
1 Musical Safe /w activation key @200g
1 Breeding set of Alien Swans @600g [acquired by Dantian d'Lyrandar]
3.448 bushels Olladraleaf @250gp/bushel = 862gp

Total Value of Goods: 2752.47 Galifars
Pay per Adventurer: 196.60 Galifars*
Final Profit: 1376.27

*I've chosen to divide the treasure just between the 7 active players we have now. If either Papaj or Nyx intend to resume play, they can also take a share of that value, even though the math won't work anymore.

You may acquire goods from the bill using a share of your take. For example, Mr. Shredder is acquiring the rapier he took from the aliens, so his final take would be 184.10 galifars and an alien rapier, paying the 12.5 the used market would have for the item back into the cargo hold.

This means that you can acquire Olladraleaf below market value at this time, before the company sells any. You may purchase materials to create a healing potion from the hold for 12.5 galifars. These materials require the herbalism kit proficiency or suitable alchemical alternative and 7 workdays of downtime to become a potion.

You will spend 2 days on the ship before the next event.

Astral Kraken Downtime Chart:

  • Relax. If you were sick or injured, this would help. None of you are, so this has no effect. This could include religious meditation.
  • Non-magical crafting. If you are proficient in an appropriate tool and brought it with you, craft up to 15gp of items for one quarter the listed price. Eg: you may build a 14gp item for 3 galifars and 5 silver.
  • Gambling. Organize and play in a bridge tournament with the crew. Pay 10gp when you take this option, and roll intelligence/cards. Gain your roll in GP. For example, if you roll a 10, you break even.
  • Practice. Choose an instrument, tool, weapon, or language to practice. You acrrue two practice-days towards proficiency. You need 70-(7*int bonus) practice days to become proficient. For example, a character with 8 intelligence would need 77 days, and a character with 20 intelligence would need only 35.
  • Carousing. You drink and smoke wildly. Roll persuasion, and become friends with an NPC of your choice from the ship on a 10+. Roll on the Astral Kraken carousing table.

The Astral Kraken Carousing Table:

  • In a drunken haze, you started to throw things off the ship to see them fly in a straight line away forever. You owe House Lyrandar 1d10x10gp to replace these items now.
  • You get space sick from too much drink. You're sick over the back of the ship, at length.
  • You decided to stand naked on the bow, and let the winds of space wash over you. The crew still snickers about it.
  • You've slept with an NPC of your choice from the ship, and wake up beside them. Neither of you can quite remember why or how. If you roll this option again in a future voyage, you may opt to start a relationship with that NPC, or sleep with a new one.
  • You upset one of the major NPCs of the ship somehow. You think you broke into their room, possibly interrupted their work. You'll need to apologize and roll persuasion.
  • You have no idea what you did, but the chef will no longer serve you drinks. Make a persuasion check to make amends.
  • While you were intoxicated, you agreed to put a junior crewman's gifted son through Morgrave University to become a magewright - an expensive proposition to say the least, likely requiring two hundred gold for a few basic introductory classes and a magewright's diploma. You may back out of this promise, but you'll probably really disappoint him.
  • You decided to 'spar' on the ship. If two or more PCs roll this result, they will fight (non-lethally). If not, you pick fights, and spend the last day of the voyage out confined to your quarters to sober up.

It seemed a worthy haul. Much of what made this trip exciting was information. Alien empires, magebred soldiers, and a sea of stars teeming with strange life, and filled with useful resources. You had the first artifacts of alien civilizations ever seen on Eberron. You had exotic creatures to sell to high society types, if the House doesn't just keep them themselves as a symbol of their own power.

There is a level-up waiting for you when you return to Sharn. If you would like to continue adventuring here and try to fill the hold first, you can.

The lock clicked seven times in quick succession, playing a mechanical tune as it locked or unlocked. This key was the one.

Kayto d'Lyrandar nodded, and held the wheel. The ship started to move forward, and the planet began to slowly fall away under it.

The skiff pulled away as the waves of tiny treefolk charged out. The skiff rose along the canopy as treefolk raced from branch to branch, leaping and swinging. The first of them almost caught you as it leaped from the highest branch, only to fall just short. About a half hour's airskiff ride away, the Astral Kraken awaited.

The Swanlancer started to chase Dullahan. It managed a blow into his back!

Dullahan took 4 damage, and has to make a DC8 strength save to halve 9.

A tiny treefolk flailed, eyes widening as it was hurled back from Jonathan's punch. It's head cracked open at it collided with a stone. Jonathan booted another from in front of Stella. It flew into the leaves of the distant canopy with a quiet rustle drowned out by the incoming hailstorm of treefolk. The two of them ran for the skiff, Stella loosing an arrow back as she ran and killing the treefolk attacking Fyodor. The swans honked around and looked angry and confused, for now, as the last of the treefolk was still battering itself and it's mount ineffectually into Dullahan's mighty chestplate.

The charge came rushing in, lances forward. Their charge was perfectly executed and devastating, catching the fleeing adventurers nearly completely off guard. Most of those who had been ready for them sprinted up. None had chosen to shoot them down, and many of those who could had been caught unaware.

One of the charging figures' lances broke off of Dullahan's mighty chestplate. The armlance shattered and the swan thudded into him in a mess of feathers and ineffectual bites.

Jonathan's struck him more directly, burying it's lance-arm. He took 4 damage, and must make a DC8 strength save to halve 10 damage from growing roots coming in up his stomach.

Fyodor took a similar blow up under his arm. Roots grew through his ribcage as he fought to tighten his muscles to slow them. 3 damage, and then strength 8 to halve 9.

Stella took a blow into her arm. It cut deeply, but the lance partially broke. She takes 5 damage, and must make a DC8 strength save to halve 4 damage.

The company began to move quickly through the forest.

Far behind them, groups of treefolk mustered. More small groups trampled between the olladraleaf grove. Beyond them, the forest itself seemed to move. Treefolk climbed over boulders, rushed through fall logs, and spread out through the occasional clear ground, surging like army ants across the forest floor.

The horns continued. There was a sound of feathers. There was the panicked cry of some giant forest beast being overwhelmed, and stripped to the bone. They are coming.

You broke through the tree line, and ran at the skiff. As you broke the treeline, a flight of four treefolk mounted on swanback descended from the canopy, charging towards you and the skiff, arriving there as you all did. In the distance, a hailstorm of wooden feet and shaking leaves marked the incoming horde.

Roll for initiative, DC11. You begin this fight one move action away from the skiff.
