Dr. Langdon was waiting on the other side. He looked over as Danh came through the gate, raising a skeptical and condemning eyebrow. "Is there a problem, Mr. Loi?"

Tina drew her pistol and fumbled with it, trying to get a shot. Priscilla wrestled for control of it, trying but failing to use Tina as cover. Boiy and Sertan shot her up, blasting loose and disabling connections, until she lost power. [Sertan 84, Boiy 67, Tina 34, Priscilla 31]

The room went quiet. It'd been fifteen long seconds since any of the Rushers had tried to get in. Another asteroid swung lazily into view, crawling with movement.

Tina drew a wire and tried to reach towards Priscilla, but Priscilla ripped out the wire and broke the connection router on Tina's suit. [Tina martial arts 16, Priscilla 62]

Priscilla ripped the shotgun free from Tina's hands, booting her hard in the stomach, knocking her free from the deck and smashing her suit's EVA jet control pad. [Priscilla 112, Tina 56]

Tina drifted as Sertan raised his gun. Bullets fired, but Priscilla shifted aside, hurling herself towards Tina and grabbing her, turning to use her as cover while she fought and drifted. [Sertan 73, Priscilla 97]

Priscilla held the rifle like a club, looking for all the world like she'd been programmed to.

Priscilla grabbed at the shotgun, wrestling for control of it, neither party able to gain a clear advantage. [Small Arms 65, Priscilla 65]

Tina brought the program up again, refreshing her algorithms and trying to access emergency control. Priscilla's visual feedback was filled with pixelation and strange interference, and she swung her fist at Tina, advancing towards her. Priscilla managed to smash the drone antenna, leaving her beyond control. [Drones 8]

Boiy fired his gun into the crowd, picking his shots and killing rushers as they came in. [Small Arms 74]

Cross stepped up beside him, gunning down rushers in even greater number. They advanced side by side. [Small Arms 87]

Sertan joined them, stepping up between them in the advancing wave, grey alien fluid pouring flying back as he gunned down more and more of the alien figures [Small Arms 85]

Stella drew the plug into the laser turret and started it up. The generator thrummed to life and the gun registered alignment with her suit. A bright white dot appeared on the wall, and as Stella swept it the rushers flash boiled. Bodies exploded and tore in two, geysers of grey fluid erupting into gas, hurling parts of bodies across the room. She easily held them to the entrance now, a wave of rushers at the entrance exploding like dumplings in the microwave. [Laser 70]

Above, an asteroid spun into view. Alien debris seemed to teem with rushers, leaping up towards you as the asteroid spun out of sight again.

Tina worked the controls. Priscilla seemed confused, lifting her gun and pointing it towards Tina, then stopping and lowering it as Tina hit the controls, still working out the details. The feed coming back over the line was filled with pixelation and signs of decay. [Drones 31]

Stella carefully lined up the Gauss, but failed to account for the spin as she fired. The shell flew hard into the side of the opening, cracking it wider and improving enemy cover. [Gauss 12]

Boy shot up through the hole, his bullets spraying wildly into space [Small Arms 34]

Sertan picked off a pair of rushers as they came in the entrance. [Small Arms 51]

The rushers came in through the hole, pouring past fire. A dozen of them were on you, leaping towards the attack. [92]

The gate pulled you in as you approached, hurtling you through it. The world seemed to spin, and you were dizzy as you arrived, stepping through into the gate room. A field of stars filled the entrance door where once there'd been a hallway moving sideways. They moved swiftly across the hole, but you were given little time to think it over as alien rushers began to pour through, climbing in from the surface of the gate room.

You still felt like the room was spinning.

Shotguns did still exist for riot control, and at Tina's request, one was fetched from security. Not considered a weapon of war since the 1930s, the shotgun might be worth testing on rushers, as they seem to sometimes be liquid.

The gate opened, and the bomb was pushed through. Carmine shifted his stance, closing it, then started again, to make sure the bomb hadn't destroyed the far gate. A moment later, it was open. A laser turret was packed up and available, along with a Gauss, a demolition kit, and an autodoc.

Carmine nodded. "It survived a collision that Mr. Boiy tracked as two hundred meters per second, well enough to receive a call. The plasma device has been set so that it shouldn't be able to melt rock, but it did scatter some of the sample material the team worked with. I'll dial it up now."

He walked to the dais and began to speak in the alien tongue, gesture, and shift, operating the curious dance required to activate the gate.

Mr. Carmine brought up a cart, and it stopped. "This is the bomb. I can dial it up and send it through whenever you'd like."

Tina spent a few days working out the details of the rail delivery system on this end, suspending cargo cars so they can motor or be dragged along by workers. The final section was retractable, pulling away while the gates three rings spun up and created the gateway, then extending once the gates stopped in their usual telescopic positions. [Engineering 65 - success, workable]

The drone extended wheels at the base of legs, holding near the hallway's ceiling. It moved slowly, leaving a solid line of steel behind it, a single piece cast and printed seamlessly without rivets or welds to fail, with micrometer precision. After a day of work, the team likely meets up with Tina as she and Priscilla do tests on the rail extension bridge, pressing it in to an active gate area, and withdrawing it. [63 - success]

Tensile pressure is high, but the steel should hold. Anything moving along it should be pulled in easily enough when the gate is active. The receiving station still needed to be built and tested, but if there was nothing else that the team could think to do, the bomb could be delivered this way.

With no one objecting, the meeting concluded with designs on making a rail system for the gate. Only Tina was really capable of building, so she was going to get to work, with the others meeting up when the bomb system was ready to go clear the far side.

Seemed like a good workable solution. Get hard lines from power to a central hub to other stations, and you limit the operating lifespan of drones in an emergency. Still, service drones had hours of service power between charges, so they could do a lot of damage.
