"La, Dee da, le dee daa, chase me right into the wall! La, Dee da, le de daa, so you won't be recognized at all~"

Using a green card to speed myself up, and a red card to anger the creature into chasing me, I run around in a circle, sidestepping out of the way moments before I would run into the wall at 6,
5, hopefully sending the thing straight into it and leaving me at 5,6.

General Discussion / Re: [Why] You literally did this (Happy thread)

Happy time: my first semester is done! ...Granted, I don't know if I passed my courses, but at least they're done. Besides, the two academic subjects I had were ones I don't like, so these next few months will probably have me be less drained, despite having 3 academic subjects.

Chest D, give a quick wave of "sorry" at the judge.

Maria chuckled to herself a little; even if the mage didn't like his forefather's pride, he sure did inherit it. She did notice the bird disappearing, and Ophia seemed a little surprised by it; kinda hard to explain to a horse that it won't reappear behind ya and burn your tail off. Still though, that last bit did remind her that apparently they were saving the world now... It's not like she forgot; far from it. But... she thought it was the kind of thing that just doesn't seem real. It still didn't in a way, but... Hmm, would spirits focused in that crystal ball always lie? Who knows; well, whoever first made it, but she was no historian.

"Well, I can't just hear your tale and not think about helping, now can I? Either way, I'll be sure to pay it forward someday. Granted, this whole saving the world business usually takes a while, and I ain't good enough to teach much. Riding, mayyybe lances..."

"And I know ya said not to worry about it, but I'll try, really. Hell, you trust me enough to talk about it, it's the least I can do."
Her horse kept nudging her as she finished up the conversation. "Give me a minute, Oph. You'll get off this boat in a second"

"Either way, you're probably right. Most of the crew's probably waiting somewhere for us, so we can look for the... Whatever kind of great treasure it is... I don't think that woman said... Let's get going, anyway."

With that, Maria quickly got her horse ready, in case they ran into more people out for Ethan's blood, and wallet. She did let Alain and any others disembarking out before her, if only because of her horse. Wherever they were needed, she hoped that this was the real start of this quest. It was exciting no doubt, but... These artifacts were probably super strong focuses or something... The power one could have with only one was kinda scary. This group seemed to have pretty good people in terms of mages; she hadn't talked to that Vortai guy yet, but he seemed harmless... Relative to magic users, anyways.

"Ah, much better. Now then... Let's see how this goes."

I discard 2 green cards, and play one red and one any card as a blue card.

With that, my axe swings directly toward where Supernerd's fine legs were.

I approve both  :D

Maria didn't quite know what to think about the mage's situation: he was obviously passionate about making sure his family had a better life than those before him; less passionate, more angry at life, but she couldn't blame him. Yet, she also thought she understood what his family thought about it; making something from nothing... That's what so many strive for. She leaned on the railing with one elbow, her horse nudging her other arm occasionally. She felt bad for him, but he just said that he didn't want the pity of others. It took her several moments to come up with a response.

"Well... Well... I'm sorry, but, I mean..."

"That's a noble cause, in a way. And you've gotten far; I don't wanna pester you about your family, but I'm sure after 3 years, you've made progress on that goal, right? Sure, this life doesn't pay that well; my own parents aren't getting any younger, so I try to send them a little to pay the ranch hands. So... I don't know how much longer we'll both be stuck being mercenaries, but I wanna help you out. You've been helping me out a lot, I oughta repay the favour somehow."

Maria toyed with her coin purse, before stroking her horse a little. This was a lot to process... He had sacrificed so much for this. To get his family a new life. She may not believe in her mother's diety, but her mother did teach her pride in work.

And even if you don't want me to send your fam'ly money, I could try to cover the cost of your tomes a little so you could send that money; lances ain't as expensive... I think."

"You've worked hard enough for this; I don't mean to take all the weight off - I don't think I could do it - but you're a good friend to me now, so... I gotta make it up."

"And at the same time... Your sisters are probably missing you. I know my parents are, and probably some of the longer-working hands. And you're the one takin' care of them, so not seeing them in so long is probably really worrying them."

Maria sighed; this must be hard for him. She didn't know why he trusted her enough to share this, but she figured she had a duty now, to be a good person. You can't just her this and stand aside... right?

Those axe-related problems aren't coming yet, as I do nothing.

Other Games / Re: How did you last *own*?
« on: January 18, 2018, 02:55:29 pm »
Less an "Own", more of a "Won through AI stupidity but still skin of my teeth" but whatever.

Last 2 attempts had failed, once from not getting some cities and bases on the far side in time, once from not getting the airport before the enemy and thus getting decimated by battle copters. Decide to go for a minimalistic strategy: 2 APCS, 2 infantry, one infantry gets the airport, other one gets the base near it, and wait for money for bombers to blow up the pipe I need destroyed to clear the mission.

Main problem is that the enemy has a factory that lets them get new units and use them on the same turn, whereas I have to wait to use my own. Thus, the second I get the airport, missles and 2 anti-aircraft guns get built while I'm waiting for money! Fun! Was able to body-block the anti-aircraft guns long enough to get the second bomber out a few turns after the missles got the first; and the missles for some reason decided to move out of spawn-camping range. Map ended right before they broke through the infantry body-block choke and not long before the enemy infantry would have captured my HQ

"That bad, huh? They tend to be choosy, so it makes sense he tolerated only them...We had one like that back at the ranch, my mother was the only one able to get him calmed down; though once we had someone insist on riding him... I think we had to give a refund to that poor man."

"I think it's just all the battles getting to her recently; she was never as bad in my old jobs, though she didn't have thunder flying at her as often."

Maria gave her horse a couple of pats while she was talking; her horse got pretty skittish these days. She was never the calmest horse, but Maria had been able to keep her under control pretty well before. I mean, if she was able to fight, that was already a lot of control, but still.

"Anyway, it's been what now... A couple years, technically? I only made it all the way out here in the past year; I was still at the ranch before that, just takin' jobs as a casual thing."

"And what about you? With your knowledge despite bein' self taught, you have to have done this for a while."

Hmm, my avatar would shoot you out of the sky, effective damage and all, but it looks powerful enough to deal huge damage at melee range. Overall, depends on who gets the first strike, but since called shot is a thing in LoI, I think I win, probably.

Maria instinctively flinched when the small plume of flame bloomed to life, though her horse was far enough from it that she didn't seem too bothered by it. Maria herself was able to calm herself down, though she unfocused from the conversation for a moment in doing so. She watched as the now-bird pecked away, intrigued by how it wasn't hurting for Alain to hold or how he didn't at least shake a little with literal fire on his fingertip. Except, it wasn't actual fire, it was spirit-fire or something... Geez, how did he know all this stuff? Maybe she could take to just looking at a book on it; probably not a tome... Not like she had any power in that sense; otherwise she would've been trained in it.

She glanced at the bird above as he explained more, and Ophia seemed to know that the bird wasn't natural. It all seemed so complicated, yet Alain seemed to have basically devoted his life to this stuff. Hearing all of this though, no wonder why tomes were so expensive; she knew there was something about them that helped magic, but this made it make much more sense.

"Oh, ok that makes sense. Too bad the tome wasn't in a good 'nough shape for you to use... You're already really good on the battlefield, imagine with a more powerful tome!"

"I'm amazed that we were actually able to get through those; granted, I ended up on the ground a lot... Even if I'm getting more used to this thanks to you - thanks again, by the way! - Ophia is still pretty nervous with this stuff, so it's hard to not have her and I end up on the ground..."

Yes but more accurately movement priority: the arena is still an arena, not a battlefield. If two actions happen at the same time, the one that needed to go fewer distance would be written first, and in a game like this a tiebreaker reference would be helpful for contradictory/competing actions.

Ah, fair point. I know you intended it to be a quick game; but I'd say go for it if it helps ya with that stuff. And sure, drop me some cosmetics. Anything goes, really.
