Well I killed 2 in a year and sent my world into the next age in doing so, are any likely to survive till old age in this world?

Build an above ground fort. Only use stone blocks - you'll need thousands of blocks if you're going to include roofs , you can easily employ every last idler in the task.

Pft, dragons don't need armour. You wouldn't give a cannon armour.
Ive killed one with marksdwarf spam but decided that was too cheap so I sent swordsmen. Even with only proficient shield skills they blocked all its flame attacks. Are dragons always this weak or are they just young? (world is 257 years old)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: High Boots now foreign?

High boots are common, low boots are forced.  You will always get low boots, but you will most often get high boots as well.

Low boots aren't FORCED, actually, they're just COMMON. I don't think anything is FORCED in any of the vanilla entities. I think that the game does checks along the lines of making sure that an entity always has at least one available piece of foot armor, though, so I don't think it's possible to ever end up with a civilization of poor little shoeless dwarves.

How I make sock?
*fortress ends in tantrum melt down 3 months later*

Too bad you can't give your war beasts armor like dragons have

This beast just tore apart 3 trolls effortlessly, its only weakness is that it always has to sit in my yard eating bamboo, but in terms of its killing power it hits as hard as a truck.

So how effective is biting? Ive seen dwarves bite off multiple fingers on tough opponents and it seemed to promote a lot of bleeding/pain

Anyways, it depends - if your map has a lot of metal for training weaponsmiths its no big deal, my map is 95% gold and 5% aluminum, my weaponry and armor is completely made from foreign metal so naturally there is absolutely no way for me to quickly replace my legendary  weaponsmith in reasonable time.

Sounds like they're chimping due to a lack of clothes, make some socks + pants

Ive had the same issue - my children all are in the "fine" mood range, the ones with military parents tend to be unhappy.

I once tried to set up a vampiric block factory, after around 4-5 years of work they only managed to pump out slightly over 100. At first I had one of them hauling the blocks away but soon enough the work got so slow that clutter ceased to even matter.

what I do, is I breed badgers or jaguars. Very. VERY. Useful. twenty-five war badgers prepped for a seige. Oh yes
I used to have a fortress where every important dwarf had giant war badgers as their personal pet, it was the safest fortress ever.

What really kills it is when you hit that 2 GB RAM mark, that's when the game gets really fucked. At that point all you can do is mass destroy stone and unneeded animals.

Or get that mod that allows DF to use more... can't remember what it's called or if it's updated to latest version.
Could you find it please? This is a really big problem for me.

Usually I just rely on migrant specialists for anything beyond the starting tasks like mining/mason/carpentry/farming. Find a dwarf whose good at what you want done and turn off his other jobs, usually you only need a few specialists to get a ton of production done. 2-3 metalsmiths working full time with 4-5 furnace operators smelting will rapidly deplete all of your metal . It's a similar situation for any wood-related jobs. Usually you'll run out of resources way before you need more specialists to work with. As for food - just assign 3 farmers, a cook and 2-4 brewers, done.

You can effectively nerf a GCS by making them 2x larger, their fangs become too large to penetrate armor easily.
They already fail to bite through bronze.

Make a sealed off pen for it and try to get them to breed, the moment they reproduce kill the adults and work on the offspring. Most wild animals that your civ isn't familiar with are pointless to keep after they have offspring.
