Eilyth

Closer inspection revealed that the other eye was not in fact the amber orange she had mistaken it for with her blurred vision, but instead a strong yellow. None of them had yellow eyes. Which meant...

"B-Brigitte?" She felt another wave of sorrow wash over her, as her eyes once more went misty. But she fought against this one. She needed to know if it was true. She must know. She stared directly into the single pink eye that she was nigh certain she recognized. "Brigitte... are you in there?"

Shit... have I finally lost it?

No. She shifts her sight, lets go of what is immediately in front of her eyes, and reads back through her log. Whatever this is, she's fairly sure she's not imagining it. Just another bizarre thing to add to her ever growing list of experiences. Par for the course at this point really.

"No," she said, letting the veil fall back over her reality. "I'm not ok. I don't think I ever was."

She studied the strange girl a bit closer, specifically the eyes... if she didn't know any better...

"Who are you? Why do you have my sisters' eyes?"

"No, I am afraid not," Yava sighed "All I have been told is that she is powerful seer, with ability to monitor many events over large areas simultaneously. Beyond that my employer was as clueless to her identity as I am. She is complete unknown beyond what she can do and threat she poses."

She started to wonder if maybe the key would help here. She wasn't sure how much of a strong divide there was between simple probability and actual Fate, but perhaps if she got creative she could try to get some image of her target conjured up. It would be a start, at least... she'd wait to hear what Siren's prognosis was first though.

Eilyth
The answer took her aback. She wasn't quite sure what she'd been expecting, but to simply be called normal was still surprising. She glanced back at what remained of Tahra, for the first time now able to see something other than the cruel witch she had hated her entire life.

Normal? That was it... wasn't it? I think I remember now. The same as Brigitte, I just wanted to feel some fucking normalcy. But you people never let either of us have that. That's how this whole mess started. And that's why you're dead now. Why did it have to be this way...?

Quote from: Patt
"Hey do you... need a moment? I know you wanted to tear her throat out with your teeth, but family's complicated. Feelings even moreso. Might do you some good to pay your disrespects."

"huh, what? Oh..." The question shook her back to reality just briefly. She blinked a bit before returning her gaze to the corpse. "Yeah. Yeah, maybe it would. Tell the others to get ready, I won't be but a few minutes."

With that said she waited until Patt was gone. Then she sat down against the wall, gazed out the window, and wondered where it had all turned to shit.

"Normal. Ain't that a kick?" A single drop streaked it's way down her cheek as she laughed mirthlessly. "I never asked for this. It's so... fucking obvious now. Why it feels so empty, seeing you lie here with that look on your face. All I wanted was some fucking normalcy. I never wanted to hate any of you. I never wanted to want any of you dead. All I ever wanted was a chance at what other people had. But I guess this family just wasn't cut out for normal, was it?"

She pulled her knees up to her chest and buried her face in them. She fought to hold back the torrent of pain that had lingered ever since she lost Brigitte, but even now it threatened to break the levee. The subtle caress of warm metal on her neck was quite adamant that she had every right to what she felt, however, and soon there was nothing she could do but give in.

"It's not effortless..." She said in between quiet sobs. "I've had to fight for it every fucking day. Keep myself from breaking like the rest of them. I filled my head with one god damn fairy tale after another, because they had all the happy endings I never could. I only became a dragon because I was tired of being a weak little girl who couldn't do anything. But it still didn't fucking matter in the end, because half of us are fucking dead now! There was never going to be a 'normal'! Nothing I could've done would've ever changed that! Why did I fucking trick myself into thinking otherwise!?"

It took every ounce of what little discipline she had left to not just scream then and there. Her sobs nonetheless grew a little louder as she sat there, curled into a ball and mourning the way things could've been, should've been, but never were. She knew such lack of restraint was probably a bad idea here, but quite frankly she didn't have any fucks left to give. If someone heard her, so be it. She had spent her whole life just quietly bearing it, it was high time she stopped.

"I'm tired... tired of fighting for something... I'll never have..."

[] Talk to Rasma's partner, Prevus

"No," Ehto said, shaking her head, "if it's only three scouts I should be able to handle it. though, before I go..."

She looked over Prevus, trying to get a bead on him. "What's you got so worked up, if ya don't mind me asking? Something to do with the boggers?"

Ehto

"It's as good a plan as any for now," She said before turning to the Jarackle, "There you have it then. We'll split up and work the Bogger and Caffy assignments for you. Is there anything else we should know about either before we go collect our colleagues?"

Eilyth

Refusal. Not unexpected, not in the least. Truth be told Eilyth was glad. The last thing she'd wanted was to be stuck escorting a fucking psychopath the rest of the way to stone ocean, constantly having to be on guard in case the bitch decided to slit everyone's throats as they slept. But the joke truly was on Tahra. She probably assumed that she was the first, and the only, option Eilyth had. Oh no. No no no no no. There were plenty of scum like her in the world, she just happened to be the one who had immediately sprung to mind.
And if the fucker wouldn't comply, then she was useless to her. Eilyth had no reason to stay her hand any longer. Perhaps had she simply screamed and run away, she would've been content to let the little monster persist a while longer. Bigger fish to fry and all that. But as she had stood there, looking at that smug, shit eating grin on Tahra's ugly little mug... something inside just went and snapped.

There was a flash a bronze light, the sound of a sharp edge cutting air.

But before Eilyth's now stone-clad tentacle could make the first slice into her, Tahra was already on the floor dead. She stood there, just taking it in. And finally she sighed in disappointment. Far too quick and too clean. But Patty had probably done her a favor in the end, there's no telling how loud that mauling would've gotten, and how many poor sods would've come out to investigate the commotion. Candidate in hand or no, they still needed to maintain a low profile.

But something else bothered her. Something familiar.

"Yup, they do." She said, folding her tentacles back beneath her jacket, "Ya know, it's almost funny. I thought I'd be happy to see some Karma finally come their way. But first Brienne and now Tahra, the two biggest offenders... and I don't feel much more than I would over a fucking ant. Like... I should at least be fucking pissed right now one way or another. Like I should've been when Leah took out Brienne but... nothing. Can't help but wonder if they ever really mattered to begin with. Or... maybe I was just wrong about what I thought I wanted."

She let that thought linger in the air for a moment or two before finally turning around. "Hey, Patt? There's something I've been wondering for a while. What is it you actually see in me?"

[]The Bogger Camp

"As much as I'd like to help with the other stuff," Ehto mulled it over for a moment, "I'm fairly sure the boggers are the quickest route to figuring out what's going on with this swamp and putting an end to it. Since the others decided they didn't want to be here, they don't exactly get to weigh in on the decision. So I guess I'll have to be the responsible one and prioritize the reason we're here in the first place."
She then turned to Rory,  "What about you, Rory? There's enough of us that we can probably split up and cover two jobs at once, if you've got other ideas."

Quote from: Commander
"We haven't gotten a good estimate of their exact numbers, but there are more than usual to be found in the New World. They're still incredibly rare, and without being able to pin down an exact habitat it's hard to keep track of them. Especially since it's hard to tell if you've actually killed one or not. As for what they're like, they're the most powerful and dangerous foes a hunter can meet. We still can't explain how most of them do what they do, just that they're full of bioenergy and almost every creature in the world knows to give them a wide berth. Except the Sapphire Star, of course, but she's exceptional...
Quote from: Continued...
Everything is prey to an elder dragon if it decides so. The only recorded examples we have of anything overpowering an elder dragon are Rajang hunting down Kirin to eat their horns. If you see one of those, you should turn the other direction." The Commander glanced to his side, where the Admiral towered over him. "They look a bit like him."
Brynn stared at the Admiral for a moment, somewhat confused but nodding nonetheless. "I know not what bioenergy means exactly to this world, but the Elders sound fairly close to the likes I'm familiar with. I would still like to see for myself, just to be certain. Pray, can you share more about this 'Rajang', hunter of Kirin and devourer of horns?"

Eilyth
It's show time bitch. Let's see if you get to keep living or not.

"Haunt you? Waste my valuable time on earth as vengeful spirit haunting you?" She met the question with a snickering, fanged smile plastered from ear to ear that glistening in the low light. "Bitch please."
A glint of barely restrained violence shined in her slit eyes as they sized up the woman before them. Far more concerning, however, were the tentacles. Two writhing, unholy masses sprouting from either shoulder, long, powerful, and black as the abyssal depths where not even the light of Kallisto dared trespass. She slowly advanced from the dark, eyes peeled on Tahra's reaction. Even the slightest hint of reaching for a gun or other weapon and she'd snap that offending arm like a man's neck beneath her boots. They may have all gotten stays of execution thanks to Brigitte, but Brigitte was gone now, and by god she was going to make the one responsible pay. Even if it meant reneging on that decision.
"Like I'd let you off that easy." She chuckled mirthlessly. "No, fuck that. I'd drag your sorry ass down to hell with me and be done with it. Unfortunately, well... fortunately for you I guess, that ain't what I'm here for. Not if you keep this civil and don't do anything crazy like call for help. I got a few friends waiting nearby, and I'd really like to not turn this whole base into a bloodbath. I'm short time, and patience. So I'll give you the TLDR version of events:
Turns out the goddesses are real, who fuckin' knew eh? As you can see, I ain't human anymore either. Decided to become Allia's pet. Don't ask. Also turns out that the goddess Katrina is a massive bitch who prefers the name Kallisto and wants to undo the world in order to make up for some stupid shit she did Eons ago. I'm not sure on the motivation, and I don't really care, I just know that the bitch is the reason the only sister I ever cared about is now dead. And that she's too damn powerful for me to just walk up and tear her apart like I want to. Tried already, that monster beat us in a six on one, the cheating bitch..."

She punctuated the insult with a little snarl that was, surprisingly, not aimed at Tahra. It was not long before a gentle tug around her neck reminded Allia's unruly Hydra to stay focused.

"Anyway, that brings us to why I'm here. I talked to God. The real God. The world. It's fucking complicated, okay? And I learned how to beat the bitch, save the world, yada yada... all that idealistic bullshit. But in order to do it, I need to replace her. Wipe her existence clean off the slate of history and start fresh with someone just vaguely similar enough to her to fit the Kallisto shaped hole left in our cosmology. Guess what buttercup? The tendencies you've shown me my entire life make you the perfect candidate. How's it feel to be offered the job of replacing a goddess of misery and suffering?"

[] Ask Imiko about:
[] The situation in Grout Bog & Who the Boggers are

It didn't take Ehto long to figure out which path she was leaning towards. As well and good as defending a warehouse and diffusing yet another potential brawl was, they were here to take care of the root of these recent occurrences. She had a sneaking suspicion that whatever it was, they'd only find it by heading deeper into the swamp.

"Hmmm, I see," She said, "Before we deliberate, it would be helpful to have some more context. What happened here, first of all? How did things get to this point? And who are these Boggers exactly, natives to the area? Did you ever have any issues with them before this mess started?"

[] Head to the Regional Headquarters

Ehto sighed as things diffused, not helped the least bit by Rory continuing to silently antagonize the guard. She wanted to nod in agreement as the chemist told him off and walked away but she knew damn well Treena was equally responsible for that mess just now. Rory might've triggered the guard, but it'd been the chemist's own belligerence that had almost led to another brawl. But of course, she ran off before Ehto could actually interject with that hypocrisy.  Figures.

She simply shook her head and started heading through the gates herself, tossing a glance back at Rory just before she did. It was obvious from the way she bared those razor-like fangs how deeply her annoyance ran, even if none of it carried through to her voice. Only part of it was directed at him, however.

"I'm going to the headquarters to find out what's going on here," she said, "you can either join me or go find the others. If ya keep blindly stirring things up though, you're on your own."

She didn't wait to hear his response, whatever it might be. She really didn't care right now.

Eilyth
Eilyth shook her head. There was Vee-vee, but uh... the current situation would be a hard sell even to her. She'd probably figure out a way to make the story sound less insane, she'd already been working on one in her head. But regardless if Vee believed them, the mere act of going back to request her help would put all of them under serious scrutiny. She could spare the time to try and convince a friend of their plight, but the fucking bureaucracy that was the brass? Another story entirely.

"'Nah, 'fraid not as far as allies go. Vee- I mean, Vulgara might help if I talked to her, but getting to her is a pretty big ask. The detour itself is probably doable, but there's way too much potential to get wrapped up in red tape if we go back to base now. Though..."
She sighed, still unable to believe what she was about to suggest. She hated the bitch, but she couldn't deny that right now, she was looking like a perfect candidate for the position. And they didn't have many other leads. And She knew she could take her even alone at this point. Having three others as backup in case it came to that virtually guaranteed her odds.

Fuck it, worth a shot. Worse comes to worse, we kill her in self-defense and move on.

"I do know where we can find another monster to replace the golden bitch: My sister Tahra. As sadistic a little vixen as there ever was, even more twisted than Brienne; she's a textbook psychopath, really. In other words, the perfect disposition to usurp Kallisto with. Though uh... word of warning: if we try to retrieve her, you guys are gonna have to be on your guard. If I'm a dragon, she's a snake; let her lure you in with that nice façade of her's and you're already fucked. I learned that the hard way as a kid..."

Yava
Yava simply nodded at the captain's suggestion and watched her leave. Looked like this was going to work out. Good, she could use a good turn for a change. Of course she'd gotten one from Sola, but uh... that situation was totally fucked, and she had only herself to blame. Still couldn't help but wonder how things would've changed if she'd stuck her weapon in Kallisto's throat instead of Valdati's.

She'd have to try and find out if the chance presented itself. She owed them all that much.

"I don't think I mentioned my name, did I?" she said, turning to Siren. "I am Yava. I've come here in hopes of finding seer, different one than you of course. She is... enemy of woman who sent me here, let us say."

[] Try to calm things down between Treena and Hrikit...
[] By explaining to Hrikit that Rory didn't mean what he said.

Ehto sighed as the accusations of slavery started to fly. She'd been getting a similar hunch there might be a bit of that going on here, in spirit even if not in actuality, but she'd chosen her words carefully for a reason. The light of her violet eyes glowered at Rory from beneath her hood, before she returned her attention to the altercation at hand.

"Whoa, hey now," she interjected, sticking herself in-between the women, hands raised in placation. "Getting into another fight just after we dealt with those things might not be such a good idea for anyone. Who knows what type of thing might come crawling out of the swamp next if there's much more commotion?"

With that said she addressed Hrikit directly. "And sorry about our friend here. He can get a little carried away with his expressions sometimes. I've seen actual slavery where I'm from, and I can tell nothing so vile is going on here. If you'll excuse us, why don't we head inside, and take these two with us?"

284
Brynn

"Agreed." Brynn nodded. "Not even I am eager to face some of the things I saw as I awaited you in that forest. The bat bearing a pine-cone mantle especially...I would've presumed the poor beast cancerous, were it not for the... explosions."

She practically shuddered at the mere memory of it. Something about that abomination was just so... unnerving to her. Though it may have also been because the time she'd spent looking up at it had been the same time used by the little lizards to sneak up and start nipping at her heels. Her tail had swatted the first few away, but the sword had started flying when it became clear they wouldn't leave her be.

285
Brynn

Brynn tossed the armored woman a look as if she were insane, but otherwise did not acknowledge her outburst. She sensed magical power radiating off of her, true, but it was nowhere near enough to slay a dragon single-handedly. Let alone an Elder, if they were indeed anything like her world's. While lasting alone out in that forest wasn't exactly out of the question- she'd done it for a few hours herself as she'd waited for them to arrive -thinking that she could slay whatever would come her way was a dangerous delusion.

Or over-confidence.

Brynn wasn't entirely sure which.
