Revenant's workshop
For the most part, it seemed Revenant had been busy working on his initial report while Maddie and Tarmo had talked. In reality though, he'd intentionally refrained from interrupting thus far, figuring it would be more interesting to let the two competitors interact for now... plus this report genuinely was quite important and required as much detail as possible. As their conversation drew to a close and Tarmo turned his attention back to the mechanic, the Revenant just so happened to be nearly done... for now.
"You've got nothing to worry about here, Dragon," he nodded as he swiveled back around in his chair, "Keeping all of you in tip-top fighting shape, mech-wise, is just about the only fun the big dogs are letting me have around here. We can start your diagnostic anytime you're ready, by the way."

Caridin (pondering deep questions with his elders in the Arena)
"Lucifer...?" Caridin pondered aloud as Arcturus explained. That name... it sounded familiar. He could've sworn he'd heard it in some of the obscure, ancient stories and allegories Erikur had told him. The same stories and allegories he had plucked the name Raguel from. Or at least, he was fairly certain they were all connected, somehow. Honestly it had been really fecking confusing at times. Something about falling from good graces and going on to become a villain. Yeh, that sounded about right going off what Arcturus was describing, so the name was pretty damn apt for his nemesis. There were far more pressing things in the man's story than the name, however. Caridin couldn't help but glance down at his own hands at the mention of light so destructive, even a mere mote of it was enough to crack the cosmos. So destructive that it had a bad habit of turning on the very one who wielded it.
They were still there, on his hands. Where they'd been for a decade. The webbed scars arcing along his palms, fingers, and just under the thumb. The marks of his quest, the permanent reminder of his own nemesis and the crimes which set him down this path to begin with. Palms that, Caridin supposed, were barely human. Would those scars, this inhuman ugliness that marked both his purpose in this festerin' world and the source of his hatred, metaphorically spread if he kept kindling the light in his heart? Would he become just like the Lucifer from Erikur's allegories, and the one from Arcturus' past? Would he eventually end up the villain, the very thing he seeks to destroy? No better than the man he's chasing? Destroying himself right along with innocent folk around him?

"I'd rather feckin' die a thousand times over..." he whispered in answer to his own query. After a moment more of staring, he finally forced his attention off his hands and back to Arcturus. "I can see why ye fecking hate the man then. I'd hate him too. And I'd hate meself even more if I ever fell that far."

"And a girl from Shari-Val." His tone of voice indicated that he wasn't particularly happy about the choice.
If Anumita took any offense to the prince's offhand remark, it was impossible to tell through the friendly smile she maintained. Despite whatever he might've thought of her or her people, when that girl from Shari-val finally spoke, it was with a perfect command of the prince's own mother tongue, in a chipper voice so faintly accented it was barely detectable.

"Greetings to you as well... your majesty. I'm Anumita, and I hope you'll find my knowledge to be of use to you on this journey."

Caridin
Just like Arcturus, Caridin had a difficult time making heads or tails of what the old man was saying. He did make out enough, however, to realize that whoever he was, the old timer was uncannily perceptive. With a shrug, he accepted the old coot's offer. It'd been a long time since he'd seen a portable stove, or smelled fresh brewed tea, for that matter. For just a brief moment, the scent wafted him back to a simpler time... a more peaceful time. Like a sweet anodyne to accoy his heart.

But Arcturus' words reminded him of the present, of the stark reality he faced. Those days were gone, and would never be regained.
"I... see," He responded distantly. Arcturus was not wrong, of course, and Caridin knew it. For fecks sake, as a lad he had dragged his broken heart and body through an entire city just to find the recluse who would teach him to hold a sword so he could do exactly as Arcturus described. He was just damn lucky that recluse was wise enough to see his headspace for what it was and try to temper him into something better, something whole. Even if he failed in the end, it'd been a damn valiant effort. But it was impossible for Caridin to ever follow in that man's footsteps, emulate his philosophy and way of life. It taken someone else, someone far more similar to him, to help him realize that.

He was not a stoic. He could never be a stoic. The wicked ways of this world incensed him far too much to ever lie down and accept things as they were.

"This man ye speak of...," He finally said after a long bit of pondering Arcturus' words "Who is he? Why do ye despise him? What has he done? And oi, fecking hell, man... call me out on my soul all ye want, but me stance is where I live. Was it really that bad?"

Revenant's Workshop
"Indeed," Revenant nodded after Dragon "Not even bear has done this, to anyone's knowledge at least. Hmmm... I wonder if there might be a connection here. Two of such improbable abilities manifesting in the same fighter are unlikely to be mere coincidence. Perhaps your demonstrated prowess with meditation has somehow allowed you to compartmentalize sections of your dreamspace, in theory... but if that were even possible, surely bear as well would...."
"Sully," Asmodeus interrupted "Do spare them the hypotheticals. They aren't scientist. They're just here for diagnostics."
"As much as I hate to admit it.... Asmo has a point. I might just reach out to Bear to discuss the implications of this, get his opinion... either way, it's going to take some time before we make any sense of this. For now though, you're free to go, Hunter."

Revenant's Workshop
"Weird..." Revenant took a deep breath, steadying himself to back down to an objective place of mind "Does not... even begin to describe... this. this is groundbreaking, amazing... unfathomable, unheard of!"
Unable to curb his enthusiasm, he sprang from his chair and got closer to the drone, examining it from every angle he could. Behind him yet another blank document opened on his terminal, again rapidly filling with text, though this time formatted as an actual scientific report. "Asmodeus, look at this!"
"I've been looking the whole time, Sully!" came the AI's disgruntled voice from the Terminal
"Well look harder!" Revenant shot back, "Make you sure you get every detail about this! this challenges... everything we think we know about the limitations around summoning mechs."
"..." rather than waste the energy responding further, Asmodeus simply did as he was told, accelerating the rate at which he filled out the report. After a few further moments of gawking at the device, Revenant turned his attention to Maddie herself. Once again, his eyes shimmered with the intensity of dancing embers, the clear indication of mental gears working overtime to formulate a hypothesis for the anomaly standing before him.
"Hunter," he began, "How long have you been able to do this?"

Caridin (Having just finished a can of whoop ass in the arena)
To see his gambit fail so utterly, and not through any action of his opponent but from his own ineptitude, was quite the deflating moment for Caridin, to say the least. He had to have uttered at least a thousand curses at himself under his tongue as he'd sheepishly dismissed his mech and followed after the mysterious man. Was this even truly a man, though? He seemed far more like something akin to the gods than to a simple mortal. Caridin had no inkling of just right that idle thought was until the warrior introduced himself... again.
"Well... that explains a lot, I s'pose" the boy responded, rubbing the back of his neck. "ye know it's funny. Ye said the first time we met, I demanded to talk to ye. Now after having my arse handed to me, I don't even know I intended to say."

Of course, Caridin realized, it was fully possible whatever questions he'd wanted to ask this man had been purged with everything else about that encounter. In that case, he was well and truly fecked for finding those questions again any time soon. Yet here he was, sitting with a man so powerful he had literally served as the final test of resolve and power for the god who saved all of Tempest. It seemed a damn shame to not at least glean something of substance from this encounter. And so... Caridin simply went with the only question that came to him now:

"so uh... what did I say in that fight just now, seeing as we were talking as warriors and such?"

not a great fan of light's DR bonus on such a glassy girl, but.... that crit bonus is quite tasty,  and extra hit is always nice with dark magic, so...

I will accept Light

Revenant's Workshop
Nodding with satisfaction, the Revenant returned his attention to his Terminal. With a key strokes, the process began. True to his word, it only took a few minutes before the work was done. Checking that everything was now in order and satisfied at the results, he gave the command for the Apparatus to extract a small amount of favor Maddie's dreamspace before retracting out of it and returning to it's resting position on the ceiling. Shortly thereafter, a small machine just beside the operating table Maddie lay on, unnoticed until now as flared to life, dispensed a small, glowing pill.

"Alright, Hunter." Revenant said, leaning back in his chair "That's it for now. Take the pill that was dispensed and the fragmentation should be dealt with. Don't expect any major improvements in performance or anything, it honestly wasn't that bad. But you should feel some parts of your mech feel just a little snappier than before."

Caridin (Being treated to a Can of Whoop Ass in the Arena)
Caridin felt himself rocked by the impact of the attacks he never even saw coming, feeling the searing pain as some of them even managed to break through his armor completely in certain places, leaving his hull riddled and battered. The temptation to sit there and wonder what the feck had just happened was powerful, so too was the temptation to let himself be washed away by the pain of a thousand glorious suns that had just perforated his being. Caridin could not afford either however, he knew that much immediately.
Thinking on the words and advice that had led him to follow this man's mysterious call to the Arena in the first place, he steeled himself the moment he had become aware of the mysterious blows breaking through his armor, eyes shifting to an even more intense gold than before, so intense it caused the cracked visor of Raguel to burn with otherworldly light. He channeled his entire focus away from the confusion and the agony caused by the onslaught and instead towards his opponent's actions, and how he might salvage this already horribly doomed battle. With adrenaline pumping, his focus intensified to a razor fine point, he watched as Arcturus loosed the attack he had been anticipating in the first place, sending it hurtling towards him at dangerous speeds. Were his concentration any lesser, he would've easily let that fact alone distract him from the man's rapid movement towards his right flank.
His options were limited, his time preciously short. Attempting to unleash a Smite at such an unfathomably full charge as it had now, even with the added speed of a favor burst, would likely still take just oh so slightly too long to accomplish anything before he was destroyed. He could attempt to instead surge that unfathomable charge into his armor, empowering it to the point of oh so brief invincibility... but that still left the problem of the inevitable follow up his opponent was doubtlessly preparing. Channeling his spark's charge to defend himself would leave him even less time to use it to unleash the retaliatory strike he so desperately needed to interrupt that follow up. He could try to reach him with a favor burst fueled charge, but there was no guarantee his attack would connect before the archer loosed his next volley and destroyed him.

unless...

If it hits... the opening could let me close in and smash him. If it doesn't, well... won't change anything

His course set, and his mind resolved to at least go down swinging if he was destined to go down, Caridin wasted no effort on attempting to move out of the way of the arrow. Instead he focused the entirety of his being into making his one shot at retaliation count, loading up his sword arm with as much fluid favor as he could muster, holding it there until the right opportunity, instead of immediately expelling it as the spell usually would've. He could feel his mech protest as the stress on its limb grew ever greater, like a balloon swelling to the point of bursting. He ignored it, knowing full well he would still have the other arm fully operational for use if this gambit played out well.
Just before the Arrow finally made impact, Caridin leapt into action. He called forth the light of his spark, but rather than project it outwards, focused it throughout his hull, dedicating its power from destroying everything in its path, to instead destroying anything and everything that would dare touch him. At the same time that he empowered his armor to the point of invincibility, he simultaneously unleashed the full brunt of the fluid favor he had stored in his arm, primarily centered on the wrist. What followed was an unearthly whine as his blade left his hand with monstrous speed and power, moving across the battlefield as screaming blur of white light that hurtled directly towards Arcturus.

Mere milliseconds later, the arrow made impact. The veil of blinding light around him grew even brighter, destroying the projectile on contact and unleashing it's full force to counteract the power of the massive explosion of energy the arrow subsequently spawned... and then immediately fading away as the immediate danger passed.
6 Point Armor Bonus Used

Through it all, Caridin kept his attention focused on the mysterious man, ready to cast Favor Burst one more time in order capitalize on whatever opening his gambit might've bought him.

Revenant's Workshop
"Yes, Fragmentation. It's similar to the type that can happen to a computer's hard drive over time. Basically, parts of the programming for the static favor making up your mech have become indexed in a non-continuous fashion; its something that happens to all Meditation DIYers who don't have the good grace of being named Sleeping Bear. Like I said, this whole process requires extraordinary concentration, and compared to equipment specifically designed to do this work as fast and efficiently as possible, most minds are rather... poor at doing the repairs and keeping all the programming in proper order. Or properly intact for that matter, as we discussed earlier. As for whether I can fix it.... one moment"
Said moment was occupied by Revenant staring at the ceiling, still stroking his beard. For a second it seemed like he had totally spaced out, but just as suddenly as he had, he snapped back to attention, swiveling to his terminal again. "You're in luck kiddo. Asmo and I have reviewed the exact wording of our orders, and well... in this case I can bend the rules just a little bit, since technically this falls less under modification and more under maintenance. Plus if any of them give me shit for it, I'll just say I was keeping the playing field leveled, like they want it to be. Just stay as you are and I should have everything back to proper snuff in a few minutes."

He glanced back at Maddie before he started the Defragging process though, staring at her with an unusual intensity that made his eyes almost glimmer like the dancing embers they resembled "One more thing though. You may be a prodigy at this, but most people rely on licensed mechanics for accelerated repairs for a reason. The work I'll be doing for this tourney is funded by the Gods, no charge to any of you competitors. Even if you really do just prefer to handle it your way, you'd still be wise to at least check in with me from time to time while you're here. I trust we have an understanding here, yes?"

Revenant's Workshop
Revenant stroked his beard in silence as Maddie explained herself. Though he was not physically touching the keyboard anymore, a blank document opened on the screen of his terminal, rapidly filling in with text and formatting itself in a manner appropriate of a case file.
"How curious..." he finally said, "You know, what you're doing, what you've been doing is an extremely difficult feat for most people. The level focus and mental acuity it would take to repeatedly do repairs on you own mech without the proper systems and maintain this level of quality... and you sit here and talk about it likes it's easy. Hmph. Looks like Truths really did find himself a special champion."

Caridin (Arena)
"That..." Caridin paused a moment, his eyes returning to their normal green as he let his focus ebb, "Huh... yeh, guess I probably would do something like that. But then, who are ye exac-" He again stopped as the warrior began to kit himself out, obviously for battle. For just the briefest of moments, part of Caridin reconsidered this. After all, he had just been expecting a talk from that message. But that moment passed in an instant as he shrugged, chuckling softly under his breath. Maybe this was precisely what the warrior had meant by 'talking'. And perhaps the best way to make sense of that email was to simply fight it out.
"Alright then," He said "You're on." With a snap of his fingers, his body was immediately engulfed in a torrent of blinding light from head to toe. Light that expanded and hardened around his form in a mere instant before fading from blindingly bright to far more tolerable, dull glow. Once it did, what stood there was not a sinewy young man, but instead a hulking giant of a machine decked out in white armor plating, easily standing as large as his opponent, if not a little more. The juggernaut retrieved the sword hilt hanging at it's side, and with a flick of it's wrist sent the thing spinning in it's palm, the blade manifesting itself midway through before being brought to a ready position, held diagonally in front of the mech with it's tip angled oh so slightly towards the mysterious warrior.

"Still not sure who ye are, but feck it. Let's do this!"

Revenant's Workshop

Maddie
"That was Asmodeus," Revenant answered "My partner and lab assistant. He's an AI, made him when I was a lot younger... and a lot more foolish-"
"And just what," interrupted the same graveled voice from earlier. "Is that supposed to mean, Sully?"
"Exactly what it sounds like it, Asmo. I was young, I was dumb, and I made you too damn smart for your own good."
A long stretch of silence followed, before the AI softly chuckled, and Sully along with him. Through this little exchange, the apparatus and the needle attached to it had been steadily lowering itself towards Maddie, and as the AI and Revenant laughed at their inside joke, it finally pierced her, just a little to the left of her sternum. Despite it's intimidating size, she would only feel a slight prick as it broke the skin, and little else afterwards. Various bits of data danced across Revenant's screen as the needle phased into Maddie's Dreamspace, with what he saw becoming stranger by the minute...
"...How... This is..." He shook his head as he shifted through the readouts one by one "This makes no sense... what the hell is this fragmentation all about? And where are all the traces of past repairs? There's no way you got this far without getting damaged in a single match, even with your set up, absolutely not... Asmodues!"
"I already double checked the analysis," the AI answered from above. "It's... accurate."
"Accurate my ass," Revenant pondered to himself. "Unless... no... besides Bear, there is no one in all of tempest even near that capable of doing it for this long, without completely fucking it all up." The apparent truth of the matter couldn't be helped though. Sighing, the mechanic shook his head and swiveled in his chair to face Maddie. He still glanced back at the screen every now and again though.

"Well... I'll give you this kiddo," he began "You're an anomaly. From the looks of this stuff here, the only times you've actually been to a mechanic are for upgrades. No trace of professional repair... but this fragmenting is similar to what I see in some of the more DIY Meditation enthusiasts who try to emulate Bear's prowess a bit too much. Most of those knuckleheads usually end up screwing something up and needing to come in to let an actual professional fix it. Even the ones who can do it without some horrible misstep know better than to rely on their own method over professional repairs."
He swiveled back to the terminal, bringing up a few old diagnosis files with readouts leagues more chaotic than Maddie's own had appeared "Going off every recorded case I have seen or studied, past precedent dictates that given how long you've been doing this, your mech should be a horribly twisted mess of broken programming that is barely even recognizable as a functioning specimen. Yet here you are, with one that aside from some fragmenting in certain parts, is relatively alright. How did you do it, kid? I genuinely want to know, this has to be documented."

Revenant's Workshop

Tarmo
Revenant only nodded in response to Tarmo, leaving him free to look around. The warrior would notice as he looked around that most of the monitors along the walls were blank aside from the one Revenant had been viewing, but periodically he'd catch one briefly come to life out of the corner of his eye, displaying a... well it was difficult to figure exactly what the hell was staring at him from the brief glances, but the thing had a ghoulish face to be sure, complete with a large nose, beady eyes, pointed ears and sharp fangs on its bottom jaw made all the more prominent by its sizable underbite. It's beady eyes seemed to follow him wherever he went.

Along the wall opposite the door into the workshop sat all manner of precision machining equipment: lathes, milling machines, drill presses, saws, grinders, even a set of robotic arms mounted to the ceiling. The wall to the left of the door was comparatively sparse, occupied only by a computer terminal on a simple desk, several locked metal cabinets, and a small sink in the far corner.
The wall to the right of the door, meanwhile, was occupied with a sizable table spanning it's whole length, part of it dedicated towards a workbench with a great myriad of drawers and cabinets overhead and underneath, and a powerful overhead light and magnifying glass to boot. Lying on the workbench currently was a small, strange little cube with holes the seemed like they were designed for some sort of strap to be fastened through them. Beside said cube sat what seemed to be a small child's puzzle, consisting of a series of small, colored metallic bars bent to 90 degree angles on each end, interlocked with one another into the form of a rudimentary cube.

Maddie
As Tarmo took a tour of the workshop, Revenant focused his attention on Maddie.
"Well, in that case everything should be alright," He responded. He gestured towards the operating table as he turned towards the computer terminal on his desk. "Go on then, I'm sure you're quite familiar with how this goes. Get ready, get on the table, and then we can begin the diagnostic."

Revenant's Workshop
A crawl of data flowed across the screen that currently occupied Revenant. Upon Closer examination from behind him, Maddie might notice a few bits and pieces; namely raw mech ratings coupled with looked to be pulled quotes from various analysts. On the table in front of Revenant sat a small sphere, colored black and red with a set of delicate electronic tools beside it. It emitted a quiet, but still rather audible hum which was easily overcome by Maddie's announcement.

"Sully. We have Company..."A graveled voice called from unknown source in the ceiling. Revenant waved a hand at it dismissively, before turning about face, eyes fixed to one corner of the room.
"Thank you, Asmo, as if I didn't hear her just now." He turned his attention to Maddie, then to Tarmo as he noticed him further off, "Well well, The Wandering Dragon and the Ethereal Hunter. Welcome to the place where the magic happens. What can I help you with? And before either of you get any ideas, no. Can't do any modifications to your mechs, the Gods said something about how they wanted all of you to proceed through this using the builds that got you here to begin with."

Caridin (Arena)
Caridin stood there for a moment, taking in the sight of the man before him. There was definitely a pang of familiarity to him, even if he couldn't for the life of him recall why besides recognizing his voice. That's right... how long ago had that been? Just after he'd arrived? Sometime after it? No, no.... couldn't have been then. At least he didn't think so, he had no recollection of receiving any visitors while sojourned in his quarters. Then again that wasn't saying much considering he also couldn't even recall the interaction where those few words had been spoken. He was far from used to that feeling, forgetting something without actively wanting or trying to... as if it had been forcefully slipped right out of his mind. That eMail he'd received from some rando had just made the whole situation all the more engrossing, yet funnily enough he could recall that message absolutely perfectly:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Even though Caridin's gut highly doubted that this absolute unit of a warrior before him had anything to do with it, he still couldn't but feel maybe, just maybe, something about this meeting would help him make sense of that other message. Thus, he waved back to the man cordially as he walked over. At the same time his eyes shifted to a soft gold as he channeled his entire focus into observing the man's appearance, his mannerisms and disposition, and inevitably, the subject matter they would be discussing this time. He had no inkling of how he'd forgotten their apparent first encounter, but he had no intention of forgetting the second as well.
"So..." he began, "yer the one who left that message to come to the arena, then?"

I'm gonna be going Dark Trainee->Necromancer->Summoner(?)

Still not 100% sure I'm aiming at Summoner for final promo, but I'm strongly inclined towards it rn

Might just apply for this once it gets going. Always noice to see new games (or dead games getting remade in this case, but same idea)
