Hmph! Hmph, I say! I just want company-level sci-fi combined arms strategy computer game. ;<;

What, like TA?  Or any of its successors, like Supreme Commander or Planetary Annihilation?

Or like Dune 2, or any of /ITs/ successors, like any RTS ever made, including the above?

Or did you mean with turns?  If so, post this over in the "recommend me a game" thread, I'd like to see what people have to say.

I want a pokemon FPS where you tie pikachu to a rifle stock and use him as a gun. As you advance through the campaign, you collect more pokemon and stick them bazzokas and stuff.

Sweet.

Will buy it as soon as the director cut bundle with the first two expansions goes on sale for 50%.

Will probably get around to playing it about a year after that.

Reading the Endless Sky thread made me think id probably enjoy this.  But I hear it has changed much since early releases?

Tell me:

Is there still sandbox exploration and construction? Or are features locked up behind boss fights?

Can I just farff around exploring worlds, or is it a linear sort of game?

Agreed, but so much more potent.

I think people will build cute little things with the iso engine, but could make amazing things with the latter ones.

I'm imagining a space game with fully realized o'neill cylinder or stanford torrus... the complex shape interactions raise huge possibilities.

First release!  And source!

I think this is an earlier version of the engine than seen in the later dev blogs?

I expect we'll see more in time, personally I think he should go for another round of funding after the more recent engine builds go out.

If you guys can't be bothered to look it up, here's a tldr:

Awesome, thanks!

I started reading some of his stuff on redit, but it turned into a warren of closed threads, flame wars, and general reditness.

So, thanks!  That "tl;dr:" is exactly what I came for.

Matches expectations, generally.

Spore had a massive art and qa team that worked for years on making sure their procedural creatures didn't look effedup or have glitchy skin transitions.

This dude only has himself, and everyone knew that before they hyped themselves up.

the leak, of course.  I guess there are several people with them, all posting videos?

Saw part of some, very laggy and probably overloaded by too many people watching them.

Saw some sad things with regards to physics and things floating in the air after you mined under them, and it looks like the vast majority of all interactions are with a gun,

146
So whats the verdict on the videos?  You're not going to make me watch them myself, are you?

certainly $5 worth of repayable.

environment constrains what sorts of resources you can gather, but the basic structures are generally similar.

If you obsess over how to optimize, it becomes mostly about how much waterfront you can use for docks, and how well you can organize your buy/sell orders to turn yourself into a major trading / manufacturing hub where you buy raw materials in bulk and turn out finished goods for a significant markup.

The actual challenges involving starvation and disease are about as significant as those in surviving your first winter in DF.  Once you know the basics of how to feed yourself, it isn't an issue.

They've mentioned that PA is essentially what [REDACTED] was supposed to be.
Really? Because they are wildly different concepts...

Some of the wiring logic made it in for the security systems and automatic doors.  He may have re-used some of his code for the power and water flows as well, can't remember the details but he used to talk about it in the early development blogs.

I don't think he ever said "this is what it was supposed to be" because he actually DID say that he never had a clear idea for what it was supposed to be, or how to turn it into a fun game.

But yeah, [Redacted] had way more game potential than the Lidar demo does.. sheesh.

I watched most of FF7, but never played any of the Final Fantasy games myself -- so I didn't get some of the basic gameplay concepts of Septera Core.

For example, you get things from stealing or pick-pocketing during combat that you dont get as loot after the combat.  This sort of thing irritated me more than the diablo trope of "the monster just dropped something it wasnt carying -- or was fighting with something it didnt drop" and I eventually got to the point that I was just cheating through the combats to see the end of the story.

Even so, the later parts of the story had you running through a big maze like city with so many random encounters that even auto-killing through them all became so tedious that I just lost interest.

Shame, as I wanted to see the story and learn what happened with that tower if you found all the pigeons, or whatever that side quest was.

He was definately there with unormal and galaxy kate.

on the one hand, these make me wish I was back in SF.  On the other hand, I have not been to any of the many conferences here in London yet, so I have no grounds to pine nostalgic.
