i think the fact that there IS a generally accepted forum 'netequette' is a staney blight that speaks volumes about the degredation of our society.

but maybe im just out of touch with the times.  anyway, hes no more annoying than any of you dorks were when you first jumped on a WWIV BBS to play Tradewars or LORD when you were 10, and all the 20 and 30 somethigns thought you were a twit.

let it slide. dont discourage him.

im constantly amazed at how digital (i assume youre using a tablet of some sort) can so vividly recreate the feel of ink on paper, or oil, or watercolor.

i had a digital(well, it was probably actually analog) tablet (called them easles back then) for an atari 800 (actually a 400 upgraded to 8K of ram.  hold ont o your pants) back in the mid 80s.

suffice to say that the technology just wasnt there yet. of course even with modern technology i couldnt draw that well.

if you think so.  admittedly, it was ill-witted humor, but i do have a pretty good grasp on multi-axis geometry and perspective.  the public education system wasnt that bad to me.

impared?  its a 2D world with an abstract Z-axis.  the ONLY way to fight effectively in such an environment, is with one eye.  Why do you think cyclopses are so deadly?

theres a chance they will get by unharassed, but im guessing the ones hauling cloth are boned.

this gives me a newfound appreciation for those pretty tiles ive been using, even though it currently hoses my ability to dump BMPs from the game.

seriously, just mod wolverines to drop it.

or better yet, mod dogs to have gigantic litter sizes, and drop adamantine when butchered.  you'll be rolling in the stuff without mining an ounce.

of course, thats totally cheap.

so i just generated a world in the latest version (12.130.23a) and its got a treeless terrifying glacier.  the glacier has one spot thats only haunted, one spot that has trade, and two or three spots that have no trade and only goblins.

then there is another area in the same world that is a scorching terrifying treeless badlands, with full trade, and is RIGHT NEXT TO the main dwarf civilization.  easy to reach in adventure mode.

there are also other starting spots, of course.  no peacefull though, the nicest is "calm".

i have taken screenshots and preserved the original virginal world state.  it would probably make a good challenge map, if anyone is still interested in this stuff, and for some reason cant generate their own.

should i upload it, or are more maps not needed.

DF General Discussion / Re: More Itemcorpse Inquiries
« on: December 26, 2006, 06:22:00 pm »
I have an additional question.  How are quantities determined?

with normal remains, it drops a quantity equal to the creatures size.  for itemcorpse remains, it seems to only drop one item, regardless of size.

except for WAGONS, which drop TWO wood when disassembled.  but perhaps those are buildings rather than real wagon creatures?  perhaps theres no way for itemcorpse to drop more than one?

oh, thats it.  the other two cultures havent sent me diplomats yet, so they have no one for my trade minister to meet with.  probably need to trade more or give more offerings to them.

i've noticed that each year the caravans i trade with seem a little larger, too.  the elf caravan doesnt grow, probably because i never buy their crappy rope-reed cloth.  I think that if i keep buying out the caravans and strike up trade deals so that they always bring food and booze, i could probably stop farming altogether.

i think the broker only works with humans.  i have both elves and dwarf caravans also, but i dont remember any of them ever forming a trade agreement.

on the other hand, i might just be disregarding those cultures because they dont offer anything i particularly want.  at least not in my current world.

i figured this was easier to do myself, than to have you send them to me.  Thanks for starting the work on it though, and we should definitly host them for others who cant.. umm.. use paint.  or at least to save them 20 minutes.

ideally, we could get the original tile set creator to put them with his originals, or bundle both versions.

I do have a question though, and thats that these images are acutally 14x8, and not 14x16.  do they get streached?  actually, if you count ever pixle and not every 2x2, theyre 28x16.  my real question is, do they get compressed in one direction and not the other?  where are the settings for that in the text file?

am i right that im ending up with a 32x16 set of tiles, which is rather less square (but more proportional) than the set we started with?

"yeah," says I with an expectant glare.

I suspect that the graphic tiles were designed to be the same shape as the ascii-shaped-tiles, which were a simple modification of the original tiles packaged with the game.

but seriously, we should slap a couple extra pixels on these things and square out our displays.

dont forget zombie wolves and elephants.  i think any animal type can be modified by "zombie" or "skelatal" actually.

are you kidding?  each profession looks totally unique.  i love the baby with the hammer, too.

im not sure about the new mason tools, though.  dwarves work with stone fitted stone, not brick and mortar.  of course, its infinitly better than anything i've ever made, so i guess i can STFU.

its quite a lovely set, all in all.  I like the non-textured stuff as well.  its a nice two-part process where the concept work is done and then refined.  good team effort, guys.
