DF Gameplay Questions / Is this amount of fun normal?

So i was playing fort mode and i retired my old fort i started a new fort which happened to start on a hill titan made out of steam. So after the i killed the steam titan everyone turned into thralls and murdered each other then i checked back on legends mode and saw that in my old fort everyone had died is that normal? Does it have something to do with the fact that almost everybody is a goblin in this world?
