Quote from: Breech-Loaded AMCA
As it stands, there's not much to improve with the AMCA that doesn't require overhauling infrastructure we don't have. What is rather clear, though, is that having our soldiers need to shift around the gun to load it like an ancient musket.

Thus has been added a relatively thin, locking breech at the back of the weapon. It doesn't need to be very strong, considering that the recoil is moreso directed into the body of the AMCA than the actual back of the chamber. Hopefully not a significant issue for production, it will still significantly increase the usability of the AMCA.

We have ruined the perfectly good AMCA through the addition of a breech-loading mechanism. It’s… It’s just a little iffy. It only sometimes correctly loads the round, and sometimes must be corrected with a lot of fiddling. It’s still miles faster than breech-loading, but it's a frustrating experience.  The breech-loading system was relatively crudely added, due to the simple fact that the weapon simply cannot be lengthened infinitely without becoming too bulky for use, but with only an extra inch of length, the weapon is still serviceable for all combat operations.

Event: Machines of the Ancients

In the depths of the Arcology, there are only two constants.

Everyone is surrounded by the detritus of a building that had once encompassed an entire land, and walls, ceilings and trappings of a crumbled civilization are always present.

Everyone avoids Battle-Frames.

They are silent, varied in purpose and always merciless.

Sometimes, they take on the form of a massive, byzantine war-machine, with counter-measure after countermeasure on top of a mountain of guns and armor, which walks the land and burns anything that dares to stir.

Other times, they are the knives that gleam in the darkness.

Regardless, Their presence often signals the beginning and end of combat.

Your respective hierarchies have politely, firmly requested that the development of equipment that subvert this, and too keep combat going regardless of the presence of these horrific machines.

You are given one [1] additional design to create something to battle the Battle-Frames influence on the battle-field.  There are quite a few types of BattleFrames, from gigantic killing machines, flying drones of both RECON and lethal varieties, “Infantry” units, automated turrets, as well as other more obscure systems.

Hacking of any form will not work. Disabling a Battle-Frame usually results in reinforcements being called. In a few cases, there has been the deployment of either over-the-horizon munitions or orbital weapons being deployed for when major conflicts occur. They usually patrol the same routes, although they sometimes dynamically route around obstacles or call in for engineering support if it requires it. The Metro Authority has its own brand of battle-frames which it uses to keep its slice of pie in the city running.

Sometimes, they sing a curious little melody on tinny speakers, with words entirely of the old language.

The winner, the best design for avoiding these machines will get a design credit for [Exosuits & Robots]. Both designs will be deployed to military and "civilian" personnel, and as such will be revealed to the respective enemy through observation with reconnaissance forces, unless such a design is made for purely military operations, then it will have a disadvantage in completing the requisites required to get the research credit. Winners will be decided by the beginning of the next Design Phase, The Design that is with the most votes will be entered.

It is now the Design of Cycle -.75. Next phase will be Revision.

Anti-Materiel Coil Accelerator (AMCA)
Our present armory is sadly lacking in heavy weapons, stocking only a few specimens of pre-war energy weaponry to fulfil that role. Even with our great advances in battery technology, we have nothing close to what it would take to field equivalents to their power. However, we can find some use for the RESU.

The AMCA is a large weapon, tall as a Yaerian and powered by a battery pack carried on the operator's back. The coils lining its barrel are hungry for energy, such that the designers are encouraged to focus primarily on those related systems while the rest of the gun is made as simply as possible. Resting on a tripod--the recoil would be too destructive with anything else--a gunner has to load projectiles individually, be they the officially made tungsten-tipped steel slugs or a hastily-cut chunk of ancient rebar. The barrel is made to the size of the aforementioned 18mm diameter slugs, but, as implied, can fire any piece of ferromagnetic material capable of fitting down the barrel.

Difficulty: Hard
Result: [3 + 4] - 1 → 6 Above average

18mmx1.V(Variable) Anti-Material Coil Accelerator can strictly be defined as a heavy weapon, being both large and transportable. The methodology behind it’s firing mechanism is simple: A specialized, high-durability electromagnet is formed into an effective coil gun mechanism. An aluminum sheet line the internal of the coil’s barrel forged such that the coil guns coils will not be damaged from the magnetic forces in play. Two sets of 4 capacitors line the sides of the weapon, providing the high voltage required to run the coil for the split second required to launch the slug.

A built-in, primitive set of circuits is salvaged from consumer electronics to monitor the variance in resistance that the projectile will provide in terms of magnetic fields. This is necessitated, as the variance of resistance can brick the coils if it is not tuned exactly, and it required a full second to test the munition if it is not a standard from the factory. However, this means that soldiers can field-prepare munition for the weapon, so long as they have power, they have ammo. The battery pack holds enough juice to fire 40 rounds, or about 30 rounds if using sub-optimal munitions.

Its role in combat is most similar to an anti-tank rifle, able to put slugs through armor plates unparalleled among post-war equipment, but exact statistics have not yet been provided. The gun is reloaded by sliding a bolt down the front and using a plastic or wooden stick to push it to the end of the barrel. A simple spring-operated tripod allows for mounting in many conditions. The battery-cells on the back weigh just enough to make this weapon heavy indeed, but operators of the 18mmx1.V AMCA carry roughly the same amount of weight as an average un-assisted Heavy weapon operator of the Pre-Collapse era.

Field tests of this weapon reveal one notable fact: The weapon is unflinchingly durable. It has no moving parts. The simplistic nature of its mechanisms (or more accurately the lack thereof) along with its focus on rugged, durable construction and highly designed firing solution means that the weapon can be jury-rigged on the field quickly and easily, as long as the firing coils are at least 80% intact. It is also possible to field this weapon as a rifle by soldiers wearing augmentative exoskeletons. The weapon is

The slugs of this weapon require a resource-intensive process to make, requiring 4 Minerals to reliably equip every weapon, but the weapon itself is comparatively simpler requiring only 2 Minerals to manufacture. We are pushing the limit of our electrical infrastructure to keep these batteries recharged in a war-scale, requiring 3 Energy.

Thunderer Revolver

The Thunderer is a Revolver. Why such an antiquated design, you ask? Well, that is fairly simple. The revolving chamber can be made up of EIA, separated by non-conducting metal, and around the barrel, further EIA work to create a magnetic field when the revolver aligns with the barrel. One shot smoothly moves to the next, and filling it with bullets is simple enough.

The handle is a container for a downsized MAB battery. While it doesn't have the same storage level of its full-sized form, the difference is linear, and it is easy to open the handle's bottom to replace it when it runs low. One particular note of interaction between MAB and EIA is the fact that a MAB battery has a far higher max discharge into EIA. When the firing pin is pressed down on by the trigger, the connection is completed, as the bullet goes off. And so the EIA creates a powerful concentrated magnetic discharge forward at the same time, massively boosting the speed of the bullet, riding that wave. This also effectively rotates the barrel to the next bullet in the process, allowing 6 shots in 7 seconds.(Due to a minor electromagnetic clasp that turns off for that  time)

The bullets themselves have a tungsten point, making them very effective at piercing armor, while the rest of the bullet is steel with nickle plate. They are [9.1 x 26mm], or .38 Long caliber. As for the barrel, it is rifled, with the EIA surrounding the magnetic barrel.

Overall, the Thunderer is a deadly weapon at most ranges, though at short range, it is almost impossible to miss what you aim at, making it ideal for close quarters. The addition of the magnetic field also means that it has burst damage against any electronics that aren't properly shielded, so it can even take down heavy weapon and vehicles if they use any form of electronics, beyond it's own piercing power. This mostly causes the pulse travels in a straight line to a bit below mid range in the path of the bullet,, which means such tactics would need to be close to mid range as well, where the Thunderer excels at.

Thunderer
Difficulty: Very Hard
Result: [3+4] -2 → 5 Average
The Thunder is not a diminutive weapon.

Yaerians are a diminutive people. There was complications in creating a high-yield magnetic revolver weapon, with roughly enough power to menace heavy armor. a lot of concessions were made to make a functional weapon. We do not have the capability of making small mag-weapon packages that are effective in combat situations, so the weapon was upscaled to be a two-handed weapon, with a compact bull-pup design and a cylinder that can be popped out and reloaded.  Although the battery systems are sufficient, Capacitive delivery systems increase the size of the weapon as well. Batteries to hold over for a firefight will take up almost as much weight as the weapon itself. EIA receives electricity discharged from the capacitors, and create a magnetic field that launches the projectile when specially shaped, it is neither a railgun or a coilgun, but a completely new magnetic delivery platform.

It fires six shots before it needs to be reloaded, and the batter replaced. Soldiers will typically be deployed with 10-speed loaders, 9  spare batteries, and around 750 slugs if it is their primary weapon. They will require frequent recharges after each firefight, though simple magnetic slugs are produced in wide enough numbers that the real issue is the weapon production in terms of sheer production.

The gun produces a un-chained magnetic field around the projectile, which chaotically pushes the bullet, usually generally forward, but it becomes a useless past medium and is unreliable in short ranges, but its impact is unarguably dangerous. At Medium range, it is the fastest it is going to be, and the most lethal.

It produces a small electromagnetic pulse, and unshielded electronics within a foot of the detonation are usually destroyed. It also makes a loud pop like an electrical transformer exploding. The recoil is quoted as “Terrifying” to many soldiers, often having a kick to the left or the right due to a side effect of the magnetic discharge, and green personnel will often drop the weapon after firing.

SSR-3 Monopole Assisted Intrinstically  MagnEtic Railgun (MAIMER) "Thunderstruck"
The primary issue with railguns is the tendency to rip themselves apart when firing, in normal configurations, it requires the rails to be replaced after every shot.

With the production of standardized Monopole materials, it becomes possible to create railguns that use this material to create a high-yield magnetically fired projectile that is combat-capable with reasonable maintenance tables.

Monopole alloys are ground into a dust and then carefully integrated within the outer layer of rail-guns firing rails, and aligned with the electrical discharge nodes that are designed to fire a high-capacitance discharge so that it emits just enough power to counteract. A casing of a paramagnetic material is placed to act as an outer casing as well as a counteraction of excessive magnetic fields from damaging the power armor gauntlets of the user.

This dust is placed such that it counteracts the majority of the forces that would normally split the rails apart, while also introducing a stabilizing and centrifugal force on the projectile along its entire radius, allowing for a higher range and accuracy for the weapon.

The first MAIMER's we create are bulky, heavy anti-armor rifles designed to be fielded by the Fenris. Its battlefield designation is "SSR-3, "Thunderstruck" They are designed to interface with the power armors batteries to decrease wielded bulk, and are distributed with power packs designed to be attached to the back or the limbs as long two inch thick external strips so as to increase the time at which these weapons and it's wielders can be fielded.

The weapon is semiautomatic, its shells reloaded by a side-mounted magazine.

Smith Systems Command & Control (SSC&C) "Magnificent Gaze"
The SMC&C Magnificent is a modification of civilian infrastructure to be deployable by combat engineers. This precludes the installation of field capable radio broadcasting equipment, portable radio systems, and a field structure to deploy them such that our troops are able to use them. Sacrifices in raw bandwidth for portability mean that only light digital inputs can be made, but text, voice, and small files should be possible to send, and larger files could be sent over a period of time, provided the file is compressed.

The purpose is to allow our troops the ability to update command with intelligence on the field, as well as request for fire support, reinforcements and other support without reverting to a courier network.

Mag-Lev Station Overhaul

The Station and tracks we have is important. However, the jury-rigging we have to do to keep it running is an issue. This is dedicated to solving that issue. During the work creating MAB, one failure was discarded. Put simply, certain combinations of naturally magnetic material causes an energy surge when electricity ran through it. Further testing on finding something for the Mag-Lev based on MAB led to this being visited. This particular combination causes the material to burn and warp, before crumbling, breaking down. However, mixing iron into the mixture created an alloy that generated a magnetic field when electricity ran through it, solving that issue. It is both an excellent conductor, and a powerful electromagnet. Using this, coined as EIA-Electromagnetic Iron Alloy, we sought to use it for the Mag-Lev's lift and propulsion.

The MagLev trail is comprised of railings and iron points at the center of the track. This railing has bars that extend all around the track to form a type of tube, with the upper sections being negative, and the lower sections negative. Overall, it looks to be a polygon. The bottom of the train has the EMA wrapped around the edges of the bottom, giving it it's levitation against the positive rails. Likewise, this also appears at the top of the train to prevent crashes against the trackway at speed.

At the back and front also exists the EIA. At the top and bottom exists the Plates of EIA that when powered, provides the push forward. This can be adjusted for making turns onto other tracks that are connected to the tube. And at the front is the window for seeing out of the train, where the driver(s) sit. There is also a nose at the front, where the actual batteries go for powering the train's magnetic lift. This train can, in fact, move outside a trackway if there is a metal railing, so putting them in and taking them out of the trackway for any repairs would be simple, as whereas depositing cargo.

Last is the existence of cargo attachments. A simple connector sits at the back of the Train which can connect to any Mag-Lev Cargo. Cargo containers have the same layout as the regular trains, though the power for them is located inside their box frame. The Connector tells the main train how much power is in the Lev systems.

This is important as showing we can fix the old station with parts we can create will mean the city will be willing to offer more stations to use. Likewise, it will give us the ability to transport materials and supplies, as well as troops, more regularly. The only other difficulty will be the computer we have to refurbish, and coding. It's definitely a project, but it will prove useful in transporting materials and gear, as well as troops.

Difficulty: Medium
Result: [3+1] → 4 Below average

The Mag-Lev Overhaul is a success. Mostly. The most expensive part of the railways, the supercooled magnetic tracks that were a pain to maintain has all been replaced with a solid-state magnetic alloy that does the job in an equivalent manner with a far lower maintenance profile. While the track can no longer support the incredibly high-speed bullet trains that we don't have access to anyhow, they are much, much simpler to maintain in terms of machinery. One particular issue is how unstable the trains are. Consistent, tiny deformations in both the track placement and the propellant magnetic systems cause the trains to wobble while it is in movement. Two separate de-railings preclude the possibility of direct-combat deployment for now. While the possibility of gliding on railings was thought of, the train actively requires a framework to stay stable, and will not be done outside of specialized circumstances which require engineering beforehand.

A refitting doctrine has been made to convert old stations that we find in the battlefield to the standard, as long as the tunnels in the immediate area are not active combat zones, the trains can run. In addition, an additional Mag-Lev has been brought out of mothballing, and we will no longer have to fight civilian authorities for military infrastructure. Additional trains are currently being refitted, and are expected to be put to service by the beginning of the war.

Quote from: Pressganged Cargoloaders
As the primary spaceport for our fair planet, the Sky-Thread base still has a variety of shuttles and loaders lying around. By directing a portion of our forces to clearing paths that the vehicles can safely traverse, we can improve our ability to transport both militia and resources.

Of course, to use such slapdash and understandably thin sections of cleared roads, we're only expecting to be able to power, maintain, and deploy some of the smaller vehicles. Baggage carriers and the like.
Difficulty: Easy
Result: [4+4 +1] → 4 Unexpected Boon

Our forces were immeasurably angry and being directed towards what was essentially infrastructure work. How dare our superiors put us to menial work? We are better than this, they told themselves. We are the Elorious, not a bunch of dirt sniveling ditch diggers who live in holes.

They were tasked to start from the spaceport, and immediately, a small mutiny had occurred coincidentally as the first plans for the press ganged cargo systems arrived to the construction yards at the spaceport.

It took three long days of fighting, but the end result is a newly formed and rebelling engineering division on site that has been incorporated to the R&D team, rather than summarily executed.

The rebellious sort had used the construction plans and modified them into heavier equipment, welding together a functional craft that is well beyond original or modified specs. Rather than forcing Yaerians with shovels and explosives to clear the way for them, they clear the way for the soldiers to move forward with devastating flanking strikes. The plating they have is thick, sloppy and overlapping, making for a vehicle with incredible inertia and a dizzying maintenance profile-- if it wasn't disposable.

We simply have so many old chassis ready to be re-hauled that it is completely possible to use a couple press-ganged vehicles to clear a road and then gut and mothball them once the frame is too damaged for continued use. Actual combat use is a different story, as projections put them as lasting about one engagement before being rendered inoperative, so using the pressganged vehicles as technicals is discouraged.

Magnetics Alloyed Batteries

These batteries are something we managed to create from the various bits and pieces found in all this ancient stuff. They are effectively a hyper-efficient battery, capable of storing 1 Kilowatt, but only the size of an adult's hand in box form.

From what we know, this is due to using magnetic materials to store and trap large amounts of electricity inside itself. The material it's made up of naturally soaks up the electricity. the only issue is getting it out of it safely, and insulating it. This problem is mostly fixed through Neoprene Rubber around them, leaving only the outlets exposed. This is in turn placed in a plastic casing.

They can be linked up to provide a lot of power to a vehicle, or trimmed down to more normal sizes for far less storage in exchange for less weight. It's mostly this alloy that allows for such insane energy storage.

Difficulty: Hard
Result: 4,3 -1 → 6

These batteries are powered by a unique electromagnetic configuration quite dissimilar from the standard capacitors that allow for a statistically significant increase in electrical storage while still retaining discharge deliveries required to be utilized in high-yield personal energy weapons or a low enough watt discharge to be used in logistical movements. Compared to the protobatteries, they have a systemic advantage over standard batteries in every possible field with a large advantage in raw electrical storage. It is not as good as a capacitive system in terms of sheer raw discharge speed, however.

This also allows for the logistical movement of electricity on a large scale.

Based on a material with some really unusually strong electrical properties, this replacement for protobatteries utilizes a capacitor packed with salvaged materials with very high permittivities and high breakdown voltages, making them excellent at constructing capacitors capable of storing a great deal of charge at high voltages, allowing us to replace protobatteries with easily produced, more widely available, and simpler alternatives that are reliable and store a serviceable amount of electrical energy per unit mass and unit volume, with the added bonus of being a capacitor, allowing for high-draw applications to be more easily integrated without needing to utilize large battery banks in series and parallel to get the required currents and voltages.

This is largely done by hacking into and reclaiming production blueprints for Protobatteries and substituting the complex hyper-capacitive systems that require advanced materials with merely “super” capacitive designs.

In succinct terms, we have RESU systems for every situation from theoretical hand-held energy weapons to cargo-bed sized banks for moving electricity to the battlefield.

Monopole Magnets "Alloy-M-32
Alloy-M-32 represents the forefront of our electromagnetic supremacy. M-32 is derived from one specific "meta" material, which is a substance that has no natural origin on the periodic table or in the formation of the universe. It is only found in several resource caches buried under tons of debris and must be excavated and refined like any other material.

With Alloy-M-32, we can construct magnetic weapons wholly unlike coil or rail guns, exotic fusion containment systems, complex electromagnetic circuitry or even wilder constructions that would not be possible with dipole magnetic systems. These monopole magnets absolutely require electricity to function, as they do not hold a magnetic charge like dipole magnets.

I dont think the L-Safe is possible: Making a E-shield system and a upgraded power would be too much to do with too little.

Heavy Field Operations-2  "Fenris"

The HFO-2 Fenris represents a doctrinal emphasis on heavy weapons. The main armor plates are almost an inch thick and made from a complex alloy blend that represents the forefront of material technology. The joints use sheets of formed metal that slide, allowing mobility while still allowing protection-- at its weakest, it is still a centimeter thick. The backplate contains all the systems necessary to keep the Fenris on the move, including internal batteries and the life support systems. In addition, underneath the armor consists of a thick gambeson that is interwoven with a climate control system to maintain body temperature as well as a ultra-fine weave of thermally conductive filaments that mitigate incendiary or energy weapons effects on the personnel wearing the Fenris.

The suit utilizes complex servo systems that give the user an equivalent strength to two to three times the normal limit, and allow them to field heavy weaponry like conventionally sized firearms, able to fire on the move and in less than optimal bracing conditions. Recoil is less of an issue for these soldiers.

The helmet consists of a molded piece of metal with padding and a reinforced visor. This reduces the cone of vision for the individual, but it is considered a worthy sacrifice.

The Diktats Throne

That was what we called him. The Diktat. As if he were some sort of imperious ruler os high above the clouds that his very stench could not be smelt from us, so high above in the heavens he would be. A pit it could not be.

Just as we were deposited here by some uncaring, unflinchingly cruel alien master, it can be said that they saved us with those strange, unknowable monsters that prowl the night. His disappearance, along with the vast majority of his goons meant that we would be able to continue on to our future, but he left behind a Throne.

Diktat. Emperor. King.

These are the few names by which cruel dictators, lampshading themselves as anything but bandits who hold guns at their perceived lessers hide behind. We smashed his throne.

The Federated Cities of Sujia are no better. They are ruled by Water Barons who hold their people in collars, trapped in the chains of an authoritarian body who began a war against another people to take everything they have under the guise of saving their own

The Rayleigh “Confederation” is a similar band, though they maintain a far better attitude regarding their ruling polity, they have several outstanding issues with their neighbor, the people of Suijia. The violence between these two peoples is so unbecoming of modern civilization that it is obvious that whatever qualms we had of working with the Confederation has intensified to the point of dissolution. It’s almost certainly obvious that these people.

The people of this “donut of doom” need to work together, before we all go extinct.  If we must launch a veritable crusade to get all these knuckles heads together in the same room to stop killing each other by the dozen than so be it.

How we Survive

I won’t lie. A lot of people died during those first few years. But that is why we owe it to them, their sacrifice to keep forward. We were once many people from the old world. The states of Japan, Germany, The breadth of the Russian peoples stretching from world war two to the digital age, in particular, were a contentious people. Despite all our collective differences, ten long, hard years have given us many bounties in this alien land.

We feed ourselves with mostly rice. Our rice survives the depths of the cold winter, planted just before the sun is blotted out and we are left in eternal darkness, they will seed and germinate in hoop houses, and sprout just in time for first sunlight and transplanting. The abundance of wetlands among the city means that we allow our people to survive at a relatively comfortable level. Where we don’t have Wetlands, our frostbitten people toil to grow Barley, hay, oats, and potatoes.

Alaskan Reindeer is one of the few successful animal transplants, largely due to the Reindeer farm in Alaska came with us. They are a delicacy, and most of the predators seem to be too disgusted by them to eat them.

The Pines that survive in between the alien “trees” to the east provide the lumber we need to build houses, buildings and everything else.

Another gift to us from the old world is perhaps the greatest of them all: We do not have to worry about water.

An entire glacier from the antarctic circle came with us. A mountain of ice that thaws during the summer, it has been carefully engineered to feed into reservoirs and rivers to provide our land with water for all purposes.

Another shining torch to the prosperity under the Red Blossom.

Daetongryung (President) Ji-Hun Jung-Hee is the currently elected leader of our country. He holds a quiet, intense passion for his country, and the people stranded here. He is zealous in the war, and opponents point out his nature may be dangerous for the country, but by and large, his role in setting up the democracy has ensured that he had won all current elections, and will most likely be re-elected in the third election come Cycle 12.

@TricMagic We are stated to have a uniform, just one that doesnt really do anything. By having a uniform that does something (Kevlar lining, webbing, as well as plates of an undescribed material, most likely steel to help survivability), we do get a "across the board" improvement. Otherwise, I don't know what you mean by "our uniform isn't".

I've already read through the designs proposed, but the summary helps.

Why don't we have a heavy weapon like a machinegun or an anti-tank missile launcher? A anti-materiel rifle helps, I suppose, but not as much as a full-blown anti tank rocket/missile launcher, I think.

Standard Battle Dress Uniform  (SBDU)
The Standard Battle Dress Uniform consists of an across the board improvement of the previous uniform. A tactical webbing with the classification "TW" is derived, each designed to hold the number of magazines, munitions or other equipment a soldier needs for their loadout, usually based around their primary weapon. In addition, the provision for a individuals survivability in a combat scenario was considered intensely: Thus, the introduction of a kevlar lining in the entire clothing, as well as the production of a installable chest, abdominal, side and backplate, which is easy as sliding in and out of the pouches that are sewn to the uniform.

The helmet is designed to look exactly like the Sakura, and the only difference between our soldiers is rank pins on the left breast of the uniform. While this was intended to prevent enemy fire teams from targeting commanding officers and specialists, it does so effectively and completely without any side effects.
