Heartwarming story. I love the idea that Dwarf Fortress can be played in a soft, non confrontational way for people that are not competitively-minded. I usually think of DF as a very gritty world full of violence, thanks for reminding me it can also be enjoyed as a peaceful game. I'd build a fort on the seaside, one day

Alternatively, we can go for a glass interior and copper walls. Walls are not that expensive in terms of materials. We'll find a way for sure.

Perfect. We have our next mega project then !
...This should take approximatively 1050 glass blocks. We're in for a long long ride

You don't have to make a full fledged webcomic imho, but something with a strong enough theme so we can appreciate your progression. Else it's cool but I don't really know what to comment.
But again, congratulations on your sustained efforts, that's how we improve that's for sure.

I don't mind at all, but, since we are in a swamp with a massive aquifer under us, we have absolutely no way to mine stone. The available ressources are whatever we can scavenge from invaders, wood and glass. If you can make a design of a castle using those materials, I'd build it for sure !

The unusual peace we enjoyed during most of the year 137 was apparently not only due to our pyrric victory during the Dented attack of winter 136. As our scouts begin to reveal informations about our enemies, it slowly dawns on us we are in the eye of a much bigger storm than we even thought we were.

The world of Minbazkar is home to a number of factions, kingdoms big or small, all aiming to increase their regional power in a state of constant warfare. Tho alliances surely exist, not a single race under the sky can claim to walk under the same banner. This is especially true in the region we founded Watershield.

When we first arrived seven years ago, we came to fight elves. We had no idea the big regional powers were not only goblins, but two kingdoms of them. The kingdom of Osme Stobūb, ruled by Lomoth Ghostdust from Dungeonpleat, and the kingdom of Asngek Stozu, ruled by Tarem Phantomdeath from Charmlies.

Their followers can roughly be recognized by their skin colors. Goblins from Osme Stobūm (those who we're currently at war with) have a blue-ish skintone, where goblins from Asngek Stozu have a bright green skin.

Their feud started in 129, one year before our first arrival, Lomoth and his goblins trying to expend their power to the north.
Until 135, they concentrated their attacks on the capitale city of Charmlies and were violently repelled for five years. But in 135, two years ago, Lomoth changed its strategy.

Attacks on Charmlie stopped, and were redirected to a serie of connected Dark Pits far to the north, forming a sort of interconected bastion comprised of three strongholds, they call "Stupidhorrors", "Workerscourge" and "Malignedjudge".

In 135, Workerscourge fell, allowing the goblins of Osme Stobūm to set a foot deep in the north, and start a close encirclement of Charmlies. It was followed by a vicious dogfight between the garissonned soldiers settled in Workerscourge and Charmlie. In 136, Malignedjudge also fell under the control of Lomoth, allowing him the upper hand in the north.

The situation of the goblins of Azngek Stozu seem pretty desperate. Their empire which once had supremacy over the north now is reduced to eight strongholds who are apparently falling fast. If the goblins manage to complete this unification process, we'll be in much deeper troubles than we are even now...

Fast forward to the current day. We are being deployed once again to stop an incursion of goblins in our territory. Our defenses are not completed yet, so we decided to wait for them in the barracks and fight them at the very gates of the city, where we could perform an encirclement easily.

However there was something we forgot.

Zothoabo's first boy. Ari Taskmo, the glass smith, went ahead to pick him up and started running toward the bridge, with the invasion force on their heels...

Jamila's owner is okay for the marriage, Mate, so this we can do after that event ! We need more flesh for the war economy !
Also...royal...palace? But...We're not even a capital city, Hazelslide is a bit to the west

Oh well, it's no wizardry, it's science : the more you cook cats, the less you have pussy
I hate myself for this joke please don't ban me

He'll be married after next update... Tho his only unmarried woman friend is Jamila, and she's asexual. Tho I can hack that no problem, I have to ask the owner of the dorf for that as curtesy rule. Or doyou have someone else in mind?

Also, writing the next update. I'll do that before I go to bed

Yes, it's how we make friends, because art is consuming our social aptitude
(or it might be just me)

I really want to keep drawing like this but I'm really not sure if it's a waste of time and I should be using some other methods that give better results.
My honest take on it :

Drawing is never a waste of time, it's life's endgame. What you do is okay but I have the feeling you can do better.
Maybe you should spend a bit more time on each of them, they feel unfinished to me, but not like "it's a finished sketch", but rather "it's meant to be a CG but I gave up halfway".
Also why I am admirative of your willpower to draw something everyday, I feel like it lacks consistancy, as if you were consciously trying not to acquire a personal style. Maybe it's your way to approach things, but in the end, to me, it ends up looking a bit bland and not personal. Maybe try to find and refine a style you enjoy, something that would be truely yours. You definitely have the level for this I believe.

I'd be interested to see if you have a blog, a comic, or anything with a consistant style so I can assess your progression better. Like this, I just can't tell

My artstile is not consistent enough.

Yes but it totally is tho. I've seen webcomics with much less consistant art, maybe you should give it a try
Also great art; I'd ask for a trade if I didn't know any better

Following the Dented Assault of winter 136, a prolonged period of peace ensued. Tho this battle was heavy on our people, it appears that the monstersof Dungeonpleat were hit even harder. I imagine they are still licking their wounds as I write this report - so we decided to use this extra time to prepare their next arrival.

We had a lot of construction and repairs to perform. First of all,we had to replace our losses and upgrade our equipment. With the mountain of copper and silver we can plunder from our deadfoes, alongside the iron and tin we manage to bargain every summer, we are slowly but surely replacing our obsolete armors by harder, sturdier ones. Some of Imic swordsmen were still equiped with old light Ombathalo armors, they are now equipped with modern Gugirrane. Weaponry is being replaced with bronze and iron. All of that will give us the edge we desperately need for upcoming battles.
We lost one worker on a stupid accident in making this bridge, but such things cannot be avoided. herset  also died from her wounds... She dropped dead in the keep in summer 137. Rest in peace.

We also are working on the bridge, as it will allow us to modify the flow of battle and to control enemy movement. We also are plating the barracks with billon, we make by melting goblins arms and armors. Once those barracks are completely made into inpenetrable bunkers, we will work on the city walls and on the keep.

Commerce has been fruitful aswell. Apparently our clothcrafts are in high demand in Hazelslide, and merchants would trade bars after bars of metal to acquire them. We might have found a way to become rich without having to break our backs afterall.

And last but not least, Prince Ryukan Heartduty finally married.

The new Princess is called Cemir, and was a girl from the city. They seem to go along very well. As a wedding gift, the people of Watershield gave the ruling couple a trained dog, so their safety is even more insured. Long live the Heartduty family !

As for news outside Watershield, the war goes on. The more things change, the more they remain the same it seems. Brokenbronze stopped yet another attack from the western elves, and the dwarves still resist our attacks in the central mountains. Looks like we'd have to stay on guard for a bit longer : the end of the war is still not in sight

About Mate, he's 34 as we speak. Also I wouldnt call it "cowering". Really we don't want civilians outside during a siege, as they would not only get killed, but also endanger the lives of our military personnel. Ain't no shame in not doing the job of someone else !

As Zothoabo is pretty much the difference between a scratch and a painful death, he doesn't participate in battles. However, like Ryukan, he's militarily trained, "just in case". So he tended to the woundeds...and had a lot of work

Yes it would. Raising their Discipline will definitely help. Discipline is like any other skill, it grows when it's used. Since you never roll for morale as an adventurer, it stays at zero. Either drill them in fort mode or make them survive enough to grow a pair.
Sure they will never be immune to fear, but having worked with companions that already had military grade discipline level, I never had any problem of them running away.
