DF General Discussion / Re: The Goblin Adith Oshokkenom has come!
« on: April 09, 2017, 04:50:40 pm »
I had this happen with a human today. But then he transformed and was one shotted by a hammerlord. Naturally.

Cool! If I could get a moody person to make me a gold hammer I'd be set. That's all my current fortress seems to have are metals I can't make armor out of, and silver. So my entire militia is armed with Silver hammers and some bits I got off the traders since my fort has nothing to make armor from.

So, I had a dwarf enter a mood and make me a wooden crossbow. Is it better than one made of say... iron or steel? Or are metal crossbows better? Can I check it's stats in normal gameplay somehow?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How do you capture wild animals?
« on: April 09, 2017, 08:28:40 am »
Notice where the animals that enter your map tend to come from and build a cross of cages there. 10-15 high with a bar of 10-15 across. Animals tend to follow mostly the same paths.

*sigh* I'll see if my tileset still works in 42.06.

I am playing version.42.05.  All I am selling to merchants are rock/shell/bone crafts and prepared food. I know I haven't imported any rocks, shells or bones, so there's no way I'm exporting stuff I didn't make. I have a tilepack, but no mods.

DF Gameplay Questions / I have no exported wealth?
« on: April 08, 2017, 08:16:09 am »
I just made a new world, but despite having a broker and a bookkeeper (and the bookkeeper does have an office). I don't seem to have any exported wealth, despite trading well over 50,000 worth of goods to them for the past 3 or 4 times they've come to the fort. I have over 1 million fortress value, but I still can't get any nobles because of this. Do I have to do something else to get this to work? I looked up the noble requirements and as far as I can tell I do have all the requirements for my first baron/baroness.

Thank you all so much! I'm glad it doesn't mean anything. Thanks for telling me how to post images too.

Settling with multiple biomes in the embark area means you get the creatures, threats, and plants of both biomes! So if you want to tame ALL the animals, you should have an embark site on the biome borders.

Yes, they're cute! But how do they get distracted? Other than their own kin they are in a pen with nothing. Is being distracted negative? I've never even had it in dwarves. Although most of my dwarven problems tend to come when something comes to erase the fort from existence, and not minor issues with actually settling an area (other than the one time I left the game running and most of my dwarves dehydrated. oops.)

I still don't understand how the insert picture button works on this site. What do you put between the ['img']['img] to upload screenshots or other images from your computer?

DF Suggestions / Suggestion: Merchants and goods
« on: April 07, 2017, 02:15:02 pm »
I would really love it if the goods the merchants demanded for countertrading appeared at the top of the trade screen so you wouldn't have to go through pages and pages of items to look for that one chalk ring they demanded. Or alternatively, allow us to designate containers as "buy all of it or none of it" in the trade menu somewhere.

It's not really that important, just a small thing.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: April 07, 2017, 12:41:45 pm »
I'm relatively new in DF terms. After playing Dwarf Fortress for maybe 150 hours, I finally have a basic knowledge of how all industries and things should work (mostly after getting a really boring world where pretty much all threats were killed off before I settled my fort). So I'm trying to tame all the beasts in my savage biomes, and currently trying to figure out how pumps, water/lava pressure, and how other such things work. After a couple of forts with permanently flooded areas, it's an ongoing process.

But in true DF style, my very first fort that I made last year got quashed by Zombie Whales. I was not in a haunted biome and had no idea where they came from. So after the standard "losing tons of forts to random werebeasts because I couldn't figure out the military." I think I'm doing much better now.

I prepare the elf pits, and ensure my steel clad defense force (and my hospital) has all the supplies they need for their extra long training session.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Grazing Question
« on: April 07, 2017, 12:29:30 pm »
So, I recently caught a bunch of Capybaras and thought, why not try to domesticate them? They could give my dwarves some meat variety and it's not like they're dangerous. But, despite being grazing animals, they don't seem to want to graze, despite being in the same type of pen my domesticated livestock are in and ALL grown capybara have the yellow down arrows. My biome has reeds, dense saw grass, and their pen has tons of fruit on the ground because there use to be trees there. I know they're aquatic animals, does my pen need a pond or something to meet their needs?

I have a tilepack, but no actual mods. What am I doing wrong here? Also how do I post pictures?
