Bio: Clan Akiyama was a shadow of its former self, reduced by the seemingly endless war the country was plunged in time and time again, until they were left with little more than honor, and valorous deeds to their name. A single family desperately searching for a way to maintain a standing in the world outside history books. It all seemed like a lost cause, but on a cold winter’s night a child was born, one who would prove to be its salvation.

He was a mighty warrior, a man who could stand with his head unbowed against the rabble opposing Kueseka’s rightful claim to the continent, and break their ranks time and time again. Who was also a statesman beloved by the people in the lands he protected, and a learned scholar who wrote several passable attempts at poetry every now and again. His name was Akio Akiyama, and he disappeared almost half a decade ago. This story is about the guy who has to fill his shoes.

Born a little less than a decade after his more famous sibling, Akira never had more than a distant relationship with the rest of his family. Sure his father was there for his birth, and his older brother made some cursory attempts to befriend him in between conquests, but they were both far older than he was, and far more interested in each other than in him. And while his mother paid more attention to him than the two, her affection for him waned after his baby sister was born, and he found himself raised more by the clan’s retainers than his actual parents.

The lack of recognition from his family did not stop Akira from driving himself to excel, and although his accomplishments paled in comparison to his brother’s, they were his, and for a little while, that was enough. But unfortunately, his ambitions slowly grew from their humble beginnings, and he found himself with the cursed drive to surpass the brother he idolized. Spending his time studying the blade, and attempting to hone his mind into a fine edge, when you know, most people would be hanging out with their friends.

This approach didn’t really work out for Akira, his brother still trounced him in the eyes of his family time and time again, and despite his efforts, nothing seemed to change. Until one day his brother left for Coris as part of a diplomatic envoy’s honor guard, and never returned. His presumed death  was a heavy blow to the clan, their father in particular falling into a pit of despair. He was their savior, and with him gone, who else would boldly carry the clan’s name to the future?. It was then that he noticed Akira weeping (manly) tears in a corner, and remembered that he did have 3 sons.

Things seemed to look up for Akira, he had finally obtained the small measure of respect and recognition he had been yearning for, but with his brother gone save for the accomplishments he still couldn’t outdo, his life started to feel hollow and meaningless. And as the years went on, Akira wondered if their brother’s life was really all that it was cracked up to be…

He was still searching for answers when the Clan received a peculiar invitation. Hoping to keep their soldiers ready at a cold point of the war, and seeking to deepen their ties with their closest allies, the Kuesekans set up a war game of sorts with the Corisians, and he was one of the few invited to muster up his forces and give the Corisians what for!. it was to be his moment of greatness, a chance to bring honor to his clan, and perhaps finally make his mark on history. This as it turned out, was a mistake.

Suffering defeat after defeat at the hands of the Corisians, the Kuesekan army found themselves facing an opponent who seemed suspiciously familiar with their strengths and weaknesses, and their tactical maneuvers. Desperate for a way to prove his worth, and recognizing that orthodox Kuesekan tactics would spell their doom, Akira hatched a cunning plan.

Leading his men into the forests surrounding their next field of battle, Akira’s men made their way to the enemy’s encampment, intending to eke out a victory by taking the enemy’s leadership hostage. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned, and after a humiliating duel of sorts against the enemy general, he found himself being forced to sit the rest of the war out as one of Coris’s many prisoners.

Faced with the prospect of returning home as a failure, Akira’s mind drifted back to his defeat. The man he fought didn’t speak a single word during the battle, and his heavy armor shielded their body from view, but it was almost as if he had fought them before, something in the way they moved reminded him of...someone. His curiosity piqued, he started digging into the general’s past, conversing with their aides and the few members of their honor guard still at the encampment, piecing together a tale that had too many little inconsistencies, ones that he thought he could fill.

Finding the man to have already excused himself to the front, and still clinging to the perhaps vain hope of bringing something other than shame and dishonor back to the clan, Akira left on a journey to find the general once more, hoping to return with a tale of his own greatness, with his (presumably) amnesiac brother in tow.
