I'm at a great embark so far. I have no aquifer, lots of iron, and plenty of soil and sand. The only problem is that there isn't enough war going on right now to fill my corpse stockpiles.
I'm neighboring civilizations with Goblins, Elves, and Humans, but the only war right now is between the Goblins and Elves.
There have been irregular Kobold thievery attempts, but only one Goblin snatcher attempt. I don't know how I can declare war on them...

I am very, very confused.
It's not even magma safe.
14 here.
Started playing earlier this year.
Before you ask, yes, I am terrible at this game. Still freakin fun though.
SOLID_DENSITY and LIQUID_DENSITY max out at 200000, material strength values max out at 100000000, and everything else appears to be 2147483647 (though is likely to behave oddly if you set it that high).
Been playing since I was 20, 3 years back now.
There was a thread in the past that talked about the patience and maturity needed to learn and enjoy the game as a reason why the forum is so nice to be on, everyone here is capable of acting like adults, and most probably are adults.
I knew a guy who was into DF when I was in high school, about 16 at the time, but I reckon the number of people younger than that would quite low.
Howdy,
Title says it all.
I'm trying to build a carpenters workshop, among other things. I have plenty of wood and yet no one is building this crap.
Apparently I need an administrator, I made someone it. Now they require an office?
I try to build a chair, but all it says is "requires throne"...
Pls halp
I'm 37. And, whilst acknowledging that there are "no girls on the internet", I'm also female. I know a pretty wide spread of genders who play DF, as well, which seems interesting.
Caves? You ought to look in kobold camps. That's where I've always found them. I haven't found kobolds in caves since the 2d version.
Well. You have to be persistent. And to like DF, you have to be at least a bit imaginative. And it takes a decent amount of micromanagement and finickiness. I'd say all those together is almost intelligence. And at the very least it shows good taste in games, as I'm sure you'll agree.Um. That feels a bit dismissive of younger people. I mean, I picked up DF when I was 13 or so, and while I do look back at 13-year-old James and think "how in the four hells could they think that" (honestly, I do that to James-of-a-few-months-ago), it's not like all children are stupid.I don't wanna be that annoying kid you see in the comment sections of old music videos, but I'm 14 and learned this game pretty quickly.
It really isn't that difficult with the Quick Start guide on hand.
