Yay for them being more than a few kobolds standing around a pile of junk, outside! Now they'll be standing around a pile of junk, in a hole!

But seriously, more realistic/detailed koboldy stuff is fun. Plus they'll be able to steal artifacts and then keep them, so there's that.

To be fair, there were no kobolds AT ALL last time I checked, in ALL caves.

Um. That feels a bit dismissive of younger people. I mean, I picked up DF when I was 13 or so, and while I do look back at 13-year-old James and think "how in the four hells could they think that" (honestly, I do that to James-of-a-few-months-ago), it's not like all children are stupid.

I mean 7-9 year olds. They make up the bulk of internet cancer.
Though there are many adults on the Internet which one could easily mistake for 7 year olds.

Sure. They're nowhere as proactive though.

What I'm hyped about is kobold caves being actually populated. Yay for modded kobold adv mode raiding parties!

It's because it's an interaction, not a creature. Press u to cycle through interactions until you find the pyro.

I've done that already, didn't show up.

Dunno, check the wiki page for interaction tokens.

It seems that there are various things in DF that are always the same (dwarves, elves, counts, barons, swords, halberds... etc). Will there eventually be a feature that procgens civilization structures, weapons(like instruments) and civilized races(like clowns)? I could imagine a 'randomness' scale that controls the races, weapons, cultures and so on, but not geography, history gen, and stuff like that. It would probably scale between "Alien Culture" to "Familiar Places" or "Entirely Random" to "Very Predictable".

You basically described part of the mythgen update, which is coming in ~4 years. You know, Toady may add those exact values in the sliders for myth.

The artifact release, so less then four years, maybe 2 . But it's a pretty huge update.

I love the idea: place a school zone at workshops for apprenticeships. Put bookcases, instruments etc to teach appropriate skills with an assigned teacher. You have the choice to make schools mandatory or not, and you can make them free choice or assign a child to the zone. And to make them more balanced: they produce negative toughts in kids.

Or negative thoughts based on personality. If the kid likes knowledge, he'd ENJOY going to school.

It would be a location (like library, temple, tavern), where you would assign teachers and Dwarven children would be forced to go to school(or maybe you could set a policy on whether or not they could choose/have their parents choose?). One would build a classroom where there are thrones behind tables for the children to sit. Writing materials for them to write, and they could learn to read/write and other scholarly skills. Perhaps placing a workshop into an area will allow a dwarf of the profession (i.e. carpenter) to go there and teach some kids how to slice wood into chairs. How much the kids learn is based on the teacher's teaching skill and the skill being taught.

Thoughts? Has this been suggested previously?

Excellent. Children will actually be worthwile once they grow up.
