I was trying to make a dinosaur total conversion mod, but I got too busy with actually learning fort mode. Maybe I'll try something a bit easier. Maybe a diep.io mod? That would be weird.

Good but laggy. Maybe someday we will get something like this but with a pocket world. Even mid-grade computers will slow down to a crawl with that though, probably.

I tried in arena and only the menu and map displayed correctly, I still got flickering blocks of characters for the local area display. Do you use the standard ASCII?


Yes. I never use graphic packs.

So as I've posted elsewhere, I have a visitor to my current fortress, who is a gorlak dancer.  He's been hanging out for a bit over a year now, and the longer he's here, the more fond of him I've grown.  I really want him to stay, but have yet to see a petition from him.  His graceful dancing heals the souls of all who witness his gyrations and nuanced movements.  Or something.

I'm wondering if there's a way, probably through dfhack, to force him to petition or just outright claim him as a member of our civilization.  I tried "tweak makeown" based on the dfhack plugin documentation, but that doesn't really seem to have the effect described.  Does anybody know of a way to make this happen?

Simple. Build a bedroom, then press "assign location", select the tavern name, then wait. You'll get a petition.

Currently reclaiming the fort. DFhack is useful, I just typed "unforbid all" and some of my dorfs are now reclaiming the stuff strewn around the map. It's only a year, nothing too bad.

So, it was near the end of the first year of the first fort where I was trying, then a weregiraffe appeared. I was panicking. It killed a jeweler. I figured out militia, only to find out it turned into a dwarf and I'm safe. That's what I thought. I was commanding my axedwarf (the only military dwarf in the fort) to kill some ostriches and whatnot, setting up a hospital and graveyard to tend to the injured. Killed that now-dwarf werebeast. No loyalty cascade. I thought everything was normalizing, then 2 people turned into werebeasts. I set my military dwarf to kill one as a last resort, to no avail. They killed everyone except a few children. Then I hit abandon.

Good game.

Can a player be transformed by a night troll?

Sadly, I think the answer to that question is no at the moment. I kind of want that to change just because.
If a retired adventurer were transformed, what would happen on unretire? Seems incredibly unlikely to happen, but not totally impossible.
The adventurer would be unplayable in that case, just like what happens when a retired adventurer is turned into a thrall or husk.

I've never tried it myself, but I could have sworn you could play as a husk or thrall...

Well I definitely need to try some science now.
You can only play as one if you're afflicted by the evil weather during gameplay. If your adventurer is retired and natural world-gen from retiring a fort or something of the likes then the evil weather will turn them into an NPC husk instead of a playable one.

Ah, got it.

...still gonna try out the Night Troll thing though. I've been challenged and I have no idea where this was tested.

But can you get turned into a quote pyramid?

I wanted to ask if anyone has tips on getting Kobolds to become Visitors, Residents, Citizens

From my understanding [Utterances] causes them to be unable to speak, meaning they can't become visitors/residents/citizens, and furthermore Kobold civ is constantly in a state of aggro outwards/inwards.
My original plan was to just embark on a camp and entice them into visiting, but a friend reminded me of the above. I was also going to have to test if you can get visitors from people already on your map, or if they have to not be visible on your map to attract, and if the distance helps.

If anyone has experiences with getting Kobolds as a part of their fort lemme know!

Add [CAN_SPEAK] but don't remove [UTTERANCES]. They'll still have gibberish names, but will still be intelligible. Not sure if visitors will appear though.

Not really. Development is not getting derailed. You will get cool stuff like magic in about 2-3 years though.

The real question is "Can you take control of the turkey in adv. mode and actually undertake this quest as said turkey"

If not that turkey, then any surviving turkey will do.

Add    [LOCAL_POPS_CONTROLLABLE] or [OUTSIDER_CONTROLLABLE] to the raw file inside of the region's save folder. Not the main folder.
