Well, yes, obviously the initial mythgen system will need a lot of balancing and refining even once it's released. That goes without saying.

I think it'll be the turning point where players will finally be able to generate their own truly unique worlds without having to mod the game.

I really like this idea. Perhaps it could even be extended to any species that a civ manages to fully domesticate. It would be interesting to see miniature dragons as dwarven pets or a goblin civ with multiple troll breeds.

I honestly don't have strong opinions either way. Yes, I think prejudice would be an interesting thing to incorporate if Toady considers it worth his time (and if it's purely optional), but I think I'll also be able to live without it.

I also found out about DF through TV Tropes sometime last year, though I only actually decided to give it a try earlier this year and since then I've been unable to stop.

They certainly are. They've popped up in my legends before every once in a while (maybe I just have more experience with them because I go through worlds like chewing gum).

Unless I'm very much mistaken, a pair of dwarves in my current fortress recently got into a fistfight that nearly resulted in one's death...and then they fell in love and got married shortly thereafter.
