Ok, so if the game is not designed for world conquest and missions are bugged, then how about an alternative?
For me is one goal to keep the fortress alive and getting the fortress as old as possible
Develop a rich dwarven community into the fortress
Or sound this silly for other experienced players ? 
I am curious what the other goals for players are in DF

Don't worry about wood hauling
Build your fortress further and there are always some dwarfs who are woodhauling

Perhaps you must use Dwarftherapist to see what haulingjobs are "on " 
It easy to then do some haulingjobs later

For instance for your Miner, Carpenter, Mason it is not a good idea if they doing all haulingjobs, because they have to focus on their own job, because you must dig , making workshops etc.
A brewer and cook for only drink and food production in order to get no shortages (  lurking in your fortress..beware)

Yes. They become necromancers.
That's not what you want for your fort that evil has overtaken the fortress
The fortress should be centre of a everlasting dwarven civilization

Could be that the fortress is for eternal , i read..
"Any mortal creature who reads one will immediately learn the secrets to immortality and the ability to raise the dead"
Should it that those secrets can be used on a life of a dorf himself ?

I is for for removing miasma from a foodpile?: opening the door makes the miasma goes away

There is lot to figure out.

When made inside the fortres you must ventilate the carbage /corpse room(s), otherwise the dorfs are overwhelmed with the miasma stench and get bad feelings?

When located near a mountain you can dig carbage/corpse rooms , but the dorfs must be go outside the fortress to pile the carbage and corpesses

It are biscuit, stew and roast meals  made by a cook https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Cook

Let the cook make meals and store them near a storage room where the dwarves can eat the meals
I made in my earlier forts two storage rooms : one for prepared food and one for drinks adjecent to a dining room

Further you do need mugs for drinking and use a door for a corpse pile room ( miasma stench)

Where to find the right answers for your questions ?
Well often it is a search in dwarf fortress to find answers and with the help of forummembers. 
I remember ( correct?) me that undead creature can visit a fortress, but can be used as mercenary ?
