DF Gameplay Questions / Re: 17 dorfs deceased suddenly

@janamdo. It seems to me, you are not using "space" for pausing game, often enough. If you just let the time run, then things will happen out of your control.

Its a good point from you: build as much as possible i a short possible time
Cages are not possible to use with a feathered humanoid creature (undead ?, can't remember anymore )
Blunt weapons or lowering a bridge on the creature ?

Thanks
I must now focus on this inner fortress defence for a new fortress!
Now it is not closing the drawbridge when the enemy is coming, but it is now keep the drawbridge open:  please welcome  enemy :D
But i think this inner fortdefence is only to be used in a emergency case ( the drawbridge could not be closed in time)
Or to get goblinite from the enemy, but goblins are different from a humenoid feathered creature as earlier encountered.

Yes, a small minimal start place for providing food and shelter to build the main fortress.. i will try this!
The last fortress went very well, but was i not enough aware of the announcement of coming enemies.. i was too late with the drawbridge pulling up.

Doing too much activities can trigger strange moods  and i ignore them for now not knowing how to exact handle them : only when a dorf is mad then isolate it

There should be built in the fortress a construction what trapped the creatures.

Thanks
Yes, too much asked to come up with a answer for this from your side.
In case of being too late with the drawbridge.
Maybe i can make a hallway with a pressure plate as defence for intruders
With this is the problem that my own dorfs not taking this hallway  :)

But maybe the creature is flying in the fortress , so a pressure plate make no sense.
Better is trap door ( a door falling down) that is easy to handle then instead of building a wall to lock up the creature in a room.

Interesting for setting up a better food supply in the future, because yes i make myself easy with the easy meals foodproduction.
Here in the fortress is the question how to get rid off a dangerous enemy when it has entered
Are there inbuilt safety mechanism for this ?  ..the creature can be locked in a dungeon or smashed ?

It can fly the creature, so a falling down does not work .. a moving wall by a lever ?

This humanoid flying creature is a invader wounded and in fortress, but there is no dorf who can build a wall to lock it. again lost  :) did not get the chance to go further with the metalsmith forge

Its now for the third time that a Hostile creature ( a big red H from hostile ? )  visit my fortress ..has killed a lot of dorfs, so the fortress is now worthless ( there is nobody left from the now survived 38 dorfs who can build a wall )
A feathered humenoid nightcreature it seems to be hurt now (i try to seal with wall, but who can do it , no one reacts )

There were cages and probably is this creature flying over the cage
The bridge closing was better, but was not aware of this thread ( i missed it? ), so the bridge was still open

Detecting enemies ? ..looks mission impossible in DF

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you actually asked there. I also apologise for tending to be overwordy myself, which it seems may occasionally even confuse my fellow native anglophones. (Or myself!)

I don't know if perhaps http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Kitchen might help. (Many more words, but none of them are mine!) If it doesn't, try here again?
Thanks
What the meals exactly are ? ..needs more study wiki

For the second time a soldier of Tanbanna ( wild animal) sneaks into the fort, just before i finished the defence bridges  :)
Again demolish the workshops: it runs thru the defend cages, but now i could the animal sealed in a room.
This happens at the beginning of the fortress and a 3 -man  squad is not strong enough ( i did not checked their equipment, but they lose the battle ), but you have to built in a defence to isolate this animal and also it wil be not also possible to cage it.

Apart from at least one component not being a liquid ingredient, there's not much restriction or requirement involved (beyond the way it 'randomly' chooses what gets ploughed into the reaction) so you could probably end up with a meat'nfish biscuit or a totally vegetable stew or perhaps a "flour, flour, flour and flour" roast. (The type-name given relates to the complexity rather than the contents.)
Thanks
It seems that in the "biscuit" meals there is Always as ingeredient : fish or meat or plants only?
Can't get this not clear yet

You're probably confused because some people go into way, way too much detail when basic questions are asked on this forum.

Dwarves will get bored of drinking the same booze repeatedly though, that you can solve with variety.

(Lavish, easy or fine meals don't have any relationship to dorf's thoughts on "decent meals" right now, for some reason. They either get what they want specifically, or they complain. Lavish meals are a great source of income though).
Thanks
There are lot things to deal with in DF
I try to play as simple as i can with the food production, because with shortage all ends
Also unpredictable happenings at the start of the forttress,  can ruin it.

In the current fortress there was a wild animal what toppled workshops ( attacking with one hunter did not help) , so the foodproduction was in danger

Crisis management needed.

You're free to invent your own theories, disconnected from the research performed by the forum.
Well , i don't know yet what research is performed on this subject of meals by the forum?
Its only my idea of a meal without research, that's all
Wiki can give more information about the subject of meals

I think  a easy meal is the only one without fish and meat ingrediënt (it a biscuit made from ?)

Nutrition is not modeled in DF currently. One piece of food is one piece of food, but if it is (or contains) a favored food ingredient you'll fulfill the decent meals need.

A decent meal , must be enough for feeding the dorfs and the ingredients in the 3 meals differ
If the decent meal contain fish or meat, then i must provide this.

janamdo, do not twitch has any stream showing basics of Fortress Mode? o.O
Is twitch different from YouTube vids ?..yes for gamers.
The basics of the fortress mode is rather extensive and i faces all the time new events ( no fortress is the same )
I must respond on new situations in the fortress

Its important to try keep focus on food and drink with all the conditions for this, otherwise it can be go wrong very fast

Problem solved, mostly, once I stopped using hunters and fishing and got into agriculture with trade and non-roadkill butchery filling in on the flesh front. Not advice, this, with others giving you that. Just my particular story.)
Thanks
Agriculture and trade for meat/fish in order to bypass hunting and fishing dorf activities(because it is not a reliable foodsupply)
I never did hunting and fishing , because the kitchen has made meals + Booze, then fish and meat are not needed probably  :D

Don't know the physical or mental effect of not eating meat and fish for the dwarf ?.. has someone this scientifically inverstigate ?
